About this episode
“I'm so sick of looking into people's mouths. You know I have this recurring nightmare where instead of all of my teeth falling out, I get more of them, just like more and more and more. I get teeth fingernails and teeth toenails.”From the transcript
Andrew had an incredible Sunday filled with yard sales and football, but even that couldn't compete with the true pleasure he's been experiencing at his local home goods store. Luke had a surprisingly good time in Portland's most frivolous alleyway before running into a friend/celebrity. And they discuss the story of a man who pepper-sprayed someone for using their phone in a movie theater.

I hate teeth. I'm so sick of looking into people's mouths. You know I have this recurring nightmare where instead of all of my teeth falling out, I get more of them, just like more and more and more. I get teeth fingernails and teeth toenails. My belly button even sprouts a tooth that's disgusting. Have you thought of getting out of the dental industry? T-B-T-L! What do you want to risk? You have everything going for you. You're on a gravy train with biscuit wheel. I don't understand. Great heavens. What kind of radio show is this? The story of this situation is it's extremely personal. Alright, hello, good morning and welcome everyone to a Monday edition of T-B-T-L. The show that just might be too beautiful to live.
I've got the time if you got the diapers. My name's Luke Perbank. I am your host. I just want you to be normal and clearly you're not. Coming to you from a beautiful Los Angeles, California. California got sunshine. Where I'm as we speak. As this is recorded, I'm staring at the Pacific Ocean. I'm staring across. Boy, that's embarrassing considering this is T-B-T-L-T-V. I love television. I've got to have that thing on 24-7. I love the pattern. I made one promise to myself today that it's, this is T-B-T-L-T-V which means we're putting it out on video and audio. Don't cough. Also don't wear a jacket that's more rey-ing, which is the term for, I could never wear this jacket on CBS television because it's doing a weird thing. If you are getting the video feed of this show, you can see that it's doing an odd thing. But I am wearing it here for T-B-T-L on episode 4,819 in a collector series. Let the fun begin. We're off to a hot start, my friends. Yes, I'm in Los Angeles,
and I am looking at the Pacific Ocean here across Westchester. And I'm thinking about movies because I'm in La La Land. I'm in Hollywood. And a guy at a Burbank movie theater, no less, did something that... So who needs a movie? Sounds extreme, but also I think people are with him. We'll get into that. We'll also say hello to this young man, longest running co-bro of the show, maybe best known for his depictions of the tall ships. He is Dr. Andrew... Alapena! ...Walsh the fourth. Yeah, good morning, my friend. A lot of accurate information there. Thank you for the flattery intro. I was trying to think of other... Esquire? Or a reference. Esquire at the end, that's a senior junior. Somebody be a senior and a junior. Yeah. Really? Yeah, because if you have a kid who's the third, you'd be senior, but you... So you could be junior. Yeah. And then you could also be senior. I think so, although I don't know if you would still be called senior,
if you would be called the second in that case. Just watching a lot of football lately, and there's a lot of... A lot of people have updated their jerseys. A lot of people are so-and-so senior, so-and-so junior. Is that youth... You sound skeptical. Are you thinking that this is a way people are trying to stand out more? Do you think it's extra- I'm sure I want to get into this right now because I have a... I have a theory that I don't fully stand behind, and I feel like it could get us into a certain amount of trouble, but... I think there has been a thing in football where a lot of players are trying to assert either their fatherhood or their having been fathered by adding that they are the senior or they are the junior. I understand wanting to let the world know that you've had a child that you're very proud of and adding the senior. What is the... by your reasoning, though?
What is the junior? How is that? It just feels to me if you do think there's a little bit of extraness going on here. It's more about just sort of having your jerseys stand out if there's a bunch of smiths or whatever. I think the junior... Well, actually there's a bunch of smiths. The smiths, the smiths, the senior was... Oh. How many smiths are there in the league right now? I mean, there can't be enough. There cannot... Did you watch that game yesterday? Most certainly did yesterday was a wonderful day. Oh, that was your special day. You got the whole Sunday, too. I took the day off of my volunteer gig so that me, Veeves and Lucy could go... Grodgesale shopping at this huge Grodgesale day in the Mont Lake neighborhood. We spent the morning wandering around, walking around. I didn't even really do that much shopping. It was the perfect weather day here as we get into very late summer early fall. And then came home and had the entire day, the entire afternoon, to watch the Seahawks. I am out of practice of watching Day Football Luke. I will use the respectable word, Fellasleep, at 8.15 pm last night, because I was treating a 130 game like it was a 6.30 game or a 5.30 game or whatever it would be out of here.
Oh my gosh. Yeah, I footballed yesterday and football had me. I thought about you all weekend every time I saw a yard sale sign. Uh-huh. Beck and I were tooling around Portland and I kept seeing signs. I thought, I bet you and Andrew and Jennery were having a time right now. Did Veeves at least find something in the Mont Lake neighborhood that she was looking for? Yeah, she... Some kind of small pottery. She did find literally a small little piece of pottery that was $5. She talked them down to four and she thinks she can sell it for 20. And she's really got an eye for things now. Like she saw something that she's like, I'm pretty sure that this is a certain maker, but I can't verify it, so I'm not even going to buy it because if I can't verify it. Like she's taking this seriously. I find it really, really fascinating. But so she found, but you know what the thing is, first of all, it was a great day to walk around. And we walked around and it was just so many. I forgot how compact that neighborhood is. We've done similar things in like broad view, which has a little bit more of a suburban feel to it.
Like everything is spaced out a little bit more. This was so much fun, but there wasn't tons of stuff that appealed to us because maybe there's something about the demographics of that neighborhood. A lot of children stuff. It was like everybody in this neighborhood had a kid about four years ago. Or maybe there's even some pandemic math we could figure out. There was so much baby. It didn't get a striker. Yeah, so we did not get anything like that. We're good at, we're good now at like not just buying things because you're in the moment and grud sailing and flea marketing is fun. Like, these I have always enjoyed this kind of thing. But I think back in the day, we would have just been like, well, sure, I'll just buy this. Like I saw the, you know, the first Paul McCartney album, McCartney, the first solo record. I was like, yeah, I could buy that. That's probably, that's, I've heard good things about that. And I'm like, I don't want this record. I'm not just going to buy it and take a flyer on it so that I eventually someday have to find more space on my record shelf. You know what I mean? Like I'm trying not to just to buy junk for the sake of buying junk. And I think there's a, I think there's a real garage sale maturity there, Luke, that I'm proud of.
A title. And so we get quite a lot of. I'll take a maturity. And so anyway, so it was one of those. And also it was a little bit more difficult with Lucy because she, and she was well behaved. She didn't like, she, I don't think she ever ruined anybody's experience in this very, very busy, busy packed day. But I had to be very mindful of her the whole time. You know what I mean? She was pulling. Sometimes she'd get excited about this. She's got a special attraction to Genevieve. So if Genevieve kind of walks away, I have to like really kind of make sure that she's calm or whatever. So I wasn't like really as they say, getting up in the guts of this garage sale the way maybe I would in the past. I should say as you would say. Because I'm this episode of TVTLTV is over. I noticed you didn't say show title when I said that. But anyway, with garage sale, I'm sure he's still pleased. Maybe I should show some of that in this conversation. But all that is to say, I, you know, it was like one of those days where we realized, oh, this is going to be a little bit different because we have Lucy with us.
But I still have no regrets of bringing Lucy with us. Like this is the type of thing that you do with a Lucy, right? And so. Thank you. By the way, for being mindful of her and where she is in space and what she's doing because I did a little jog yesterday. I'm trying to do this half marathon with David from the basement in Becca in October. And so I've been having to do these runs that are at the edge of my kind of like physical ability. And I tell you yesterday I was out doing this 10 mileer down the hill from my house. And there were so many people that were so lax about their dogs on the leash. There was somebody who had their dog on a leash, but they were letting about 20 feet out. Yeah, one of those like extendo leash string things, which are especially dangerous in the road. Yeah, and they're harder to see too. Like that's a major tripping hazard. And I wanted to, I mean, some of it was I was very chill about this from like mile one through seven. But mile seven through 10. Yeah. I had no grace for anybody who was allowing their dog to do anything that had impeded my running because every step was absolute horror from you.
I was so tired. I did not want to be doing it. And I was also I was getting mad at people just for having small dogs. That's not fair. There was a couple of different people who had like four. They weren't dog walkers as I could perceive it. They were just people who had like four small dogs all on a leash, but they were going around like atomic yo-yos. Yeah. And it's like four dogs on a leash is still a lot of sort of you know distraction and impedance. For somebody like me who is just when I tell you I was hard hat lunchpaling, I literally chanted hard hat lunchpale for three entire miles to myself. That's a year long mantra of just like my mantra. That's when I'm at the absolute end of my abilities. I'm like put on the hard hat, get the lunchpale, put on the hard hat, get the lunchpale, get through this. And there were so many people that I just felt were not doing what you did with Lucy yesterday, which was like being aware of where she is in space, keeping her a little bit close, etc. And I wanted to yell at everyone, but I also knew that it was kind of a personal problem I was having.
I understand that though, especially when you have like no more energy and just like I got to do four more steps to get out of the way of this person or walk out of the way. Exactly. My whole thing in life even before we had a dog obviously is not taking up more space than I should. If there were some sort of award for trying to make yourself smaller than you physically are, that would be me. And I don't mean that in a dietary sense. But like having a dog, it's funny. I don't want to give her a complex, but I always sort of am like, come on, be a better dog. Because I look around and other dogs are just sort of chill. And she mostly is chill. What I need to remember is I'll keep in mind she's also in heat right now. So I had to be especially careful wearing the diaper. We can't keep them on her. We've tried and outside is not really as much of an issue. It's more inside as she's leaving little marks here and there. But we're staying on top of it and we put her in a diaper a couple of times. It doesn't last, but we have blankets over things and we're doing a lot of laundry on the blankets and stuff like that. It's okay. I think this phase, I mean, I don't know how much we want to talk about it, but I knew nothing about heat.
Honestly, the Michael man, I haven't seen the movie. Honestly, I remember when it came out, people were like, you would love this. I know nothing about the obsession with Camaroca and JD. They brought, they bring up the movie heat all the time. It's supposed to be a great movie. I can't believe I've ever seen it. But anyway, apparently there's the first half, which lasts about seven to ten days where there's bleeding. But she's not exactly as the doctors say, horny, unmayed like yet. I've missed the second half of this. And so it's not trying to get people up in them guts. Why would you say that, Luke? I'm sorry. It's such a good thing. I apologize. I'm in Los Angeles. It's gone to my head. Could you show a little bit of grudge, I'm sure, please, as we try to do this, bro. It's a title. So all I ask. So anyway, but having said all of that, several people came up and we're just like, oh, what a well-behaved dog. Or you know what I mean? If anybody with another dog came up, I'd be like, hey, just so you know, she isn't heat, but like, you know, but she wasn't, she there were times, especially if she and I were kind of we would separate ourselves from Genevieve for a while, go sniffing around or whatever.
I really enjoy sniffing on walks. But then if she would see Genevieve across this universe, then she would see Genevieve. That was the only time that she got like really, like she just needs to be near Genevieve. There's something going on with her. But around other dog, she was like mostly good. And so like, I'm always in my head like, come on, Lucy, be better. Be stay out of the way. Be a good dog. But then several people would come up and be like, what a one person said, what a stoic dog. And I thought, wow, that is a very nice thing to say. So because she was like, Doisism is really having a moment, by the way. Really is that a word? Is that being thrown around a lot? Should I not take this? Yeah, it's kind of in the, it's in the zeitgeist about, you know, just being kind of, you know, not as much on your phone and not as much in your head. And there's a guy named Ryan Holiday, who is a big proponent of stoicism who's done TED Talks and written books and things. So it's funny that it's now gotten down to the canine level. Yeah, I guess so. What a stoic dog. Just in the zeitgeist. But she was just sort of sitting there. Genevieve did a, I'm a little surprised by this, but Genevieve pulled out her phone on the drive home and said that she did some sort of step counter on her, on her phone.
And it looked like we mapped out five miles around to this thing, which I'm dubious about. Wow. I mean, we were moving very slowly, but I don't think we accumulated five miles, but it is there. It's kind of a hilly neighborhood where we had to go down this huge set of stairs and so did you see Dan Wilson? I did not see Dan Wilson putting bizzardo in that logo. We were right by logo, walked right by a logo. I did not tell him anything. I haven't, I've totally disengaged with the mariners. In fact, this weekend when the mariners games were on, I was choosing to listen to, if I would catch a little glimpse of a game, it would be a rainier's game. They were closing out their season. They weren't winning either, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't hurt as much. I just don't, I just don't care. This is a real question. Are they, are the mariners eliminated at this point? Apparently not mathematically, but yes. You know what I mean? Yeah, I mean, I think maybe if we don't even want to be in the playoffs with this record. Like if we could somehow, that's not true. If they got in the playoffs, I would be very happy if they got in the playoffs. But like, getting in the playoffs under 500 is, I mean, that is an,
I mean, that is an ignominity. Yeah, it really is. I don't think, again, I say we don't want it except if they, here's my relationship with them right now. I'm not watching or listening to the games. I don't know how they're doing, but occasionally I'll see a headline in the Seattle Times. It'll be like, the mariners were supposed to win the AOS and they face planted, but then it says, but they're still technically alive and I'm like, so you're saying there's a chance. Yeah, but it's also interesting to see both national and local, like, and again, like, serious sports writers. In other words, like Seattle Times or whatever, I'm not talking some Matt Balkans former Seattle Times Matt Balkans vs. But like, people are writing obituaries for Dan Wilson's managing career already. Like, I don't know. Was it stone Mary? Maybe Larry Stone or I don't know who it wasn't stone. But anyway, my four L or something. Yeah, I think it was Verral wrote like just like an obituary for this season and just how awful it isn't. And a lot of people are in agreement that like, this isn't the worst mariners season ever, but it is the most heartbreaking because they've been trying for success in so many different ways.
I was trying to explain this to a guy on the flight down here yesterday, who was an angels fan and he was like, give the angels, they're terrible. I go, yes, they are terrible. And I weep for you and also Arty Moreno is a terrible owner. What was so painful about this mariners season for us was we are never expected to do anything good. So when we have a season, a typical season where we don't do well, that just kind of checks out. This was the one time we were ever told it was going to be good. Yeah. And then having that not work out. And he was like, yeah, but what about the Metz? And I was like, yes, I do delight in the fact that the Metz suck. You delight in that. I do because, well, we talked about this before. I delight in it because they spent too much money and still suck. Again, I'm a very petty, petty person who's angry at small dogs on my jog and once teams that spend more money than the mariners to fail. So I guess it's, you know, it just the idea that the fact that like we were finally supposedly having a good team this year and they didn't win
is somehow so much more painful than their just garden variety, lousy mariners season. And this guy was, he was not convinced. Well, this guy, now listen, I really hate the angels for reasons we don't have to get into here. But I just think that they're a pretty rotten, well, they're clearly a rotten organization with that ownership. But also they just do sold them versus that right, right? But they are a fan base. And again, I don't spend any time weeping for them or their fan base. But they are a fan base that had Otani and Trout together on the same team for how many seasons, at least four, right? I think this is, I think this is kind of to my point is that they underperformed while having Trout and Otani. Can you imagine if the Trout and Otani were mariners and every season was like this season? Well, that's what I'm saying. So that is a similar kind of pain, I would guess, that this guy had, which would be you have expectations. You literally have two of the best players in the league. And you still just can't even, couldn't even get to the playoffs for however many, you know, seasons those two played.
So I would just say that like it is a similar kind of pain that this guy is, he just is rooting for an immoral team, though. That's the difference between us and him is we have morality and God on our side. Remind me why they, why the angels are particularly immoral? They have in multiple seasons started fights with the mariners, including a incredibly nasty one where they put out an opening picture just to be. Was it Julio they went after and he took them to rose to get to him for this bench clearing brawl. Like they literally put a picture in the game for the first inning just as an assassin. And I do believe the reason they did that, you know, they it was supposedly for, you know, going too high and tight on, on trout the game before. But in the previous game, they hit one of our players in the head with a baseball. And it was also very clear that they were doing this as a sort of way of like kind of they were having a major slump at the time. And they were trying to kind of rally their troops by starting this. I am, I will never forgive them for that. And you've just seen similar shittiness from them.
Well, I mean, let's be honest, they're the anaheim of baseball teams. All right. He's in love to watch all donors today are going to be. I was just starting to check where the donors are today. Did you, could I really tell you briefly something that I wanted to tell you about today on the show? And I don't have to extend this, but we were talking about how I didn't go ham at the garage sale day. But I have a new show. You know how, you know how they warn you away from drugs by saying like at first you take it and then it's a good time. But then it doesn't do as much for you. So you got to start taking more and more of the same drug. Chasing the dragon chasing the dragon exactly. I am in that situation right now with home goods, the home goods store near my house. I went in there. I hadn't been in there in a while. And so I had a list of home goods needs that was growing on my phone. I keep my shopping lists on this app on my phone.
I remember every time I see home goods online, I think of you because when you first discovered that place. Because I don't go to talk about it on the show. Yeah, because I don't go to target anymore. And I don't buy these things really online anymore. Because I don't do Amazon. So like the places that I could go were vanishing. And I literally didn't know like where's a good place to go by bath towels. I want to feel the time. I'd know more bad bath and beyond right like all of my places were closing. And this home goods was right between my grocery store and my pet store for years and years. And I never even sought across the burger king right. Very close to the Burger King. Yep across the street across Aurora. And then I discovered it or somebody suggested it for bath towels maybe about a year ago. And I would go in and be like, oh, this place is great. It's got all of that just wonderful smell. It reminds me of being a kid when my mom would drag me through these stores. And I didn't want to be in them. But now I'm in there with my pocketbook. And so much. And my. So many. So many. Oh my god. Yes. There's so much. And it just smells like the most tidy suburban home you could possibly.
Like you know, like all the combination of all of like beige and kind of like natural stone. Oh my god. But you can find what you need there. Like I needed a new little trash can front or my desk because it's just you will also I needed one with a lid on it. Because Lucy when she's a puppy was getting in there. And it's like of course that's where you go for these things. There are so many things and I hadn't been in there in a while. My list was growing and I went in there on. For a Saturday. Genevieve and I just had a really good day on Saturday. Also I'd been. I we had these two kind of ugly spice racks in our kitchen that were kind of doing their job. But they weren't. Oh I've been following this by the way online. The spice and the. Yes. Vives posted this on Instagram. She told me she posted on Instagram. That's right. How many likes is she up to with the spice rack photo? Well I put a funny meme on there which I don't know if it's gotten any traction which is I found a thing where. Kyle McLaughlin in the original dune was saying it's all about the spice. Oh yeah.
Yeah. The original. I thought we had a good spoof. You put that in the comment on Genevieve's thing. I commented on Genevieve's Instagram post with that. And she didn't give you any love for that. Well I haven't checked it. I have you all farted or anything like that. I'll tell you when I. Yeah sorry. Now I'm a little bit all over the place but I forgot about this. But basically. We had this like really just basic kind of ugly spice rack that was hanging on the wall. And then one that was kind of interesting which was this metal spice rack that you would. Attach the little canisters to it magnetically. That was also kind of cool but neither one of them even combined. Held enough spices for us. We have way too many spices and so there was sort of stacked or whatever. And then also like the one that was sort of cool looking would only be cool if it was more intentional with maybe one or two brethren next to it. But it just there's it was as part of our wall that I hadn't really considered much. It was fine. Whatever. And then I sought in a photo. I had taken a pet photo or something of Genevieve holding bingo a long time ago. And I just saw that wall in the background. I don't know if you if this is relatable or not but sometimes you don't really see your home until you see it like accidentally captured in a photo.
Kind of like sometimes you don't see the the back of your head. You don't really realize how bald you are until somebody's taking a photo of you on the way on heart not or like Andrew Walsh on TVTL. And so I saw the and so about a year year and a half ago I was like, oh my God we got to do something about that wall. There's so much blank space. These things are hanging in a weird play. It was such a bad use of space. And also like the first spice rack we had hanging up reminded me of something that you would get like right out of college like totally useful at the time. But like absolutely just no personality or anything. And so I had a note to myself forever to get a spice rack. But every time I'd go online and look for spice racks I just found more of kind of the same like nothing that appealed to me at all. And then I would just give it a go every now and then and then I found a few that are these kind of well I guess you know right there almost like honeycomb sort of like little spice racks where you slide the spices into there. And we bought three of these things and then I made these templates so that I could like make sure I knew it was going to drive me crazy if we hung them but they weren't straight because we're hanging three of them kind of next to each other.
And Genevieve had the idea to sort of hang them a skew sort of but I it was going to be a good idea but it had to be done right so we had done that. What did you make those templates? I took the cardboard box. They were just cardboard. So these things came we bought three of them they each came in a cardboard box. So then I took them out of their boxes and then I traced them sort of on the cardboard box on the inside of the box. That's one of the photos by the way is the kind of the template of my templates. Oh so how many likes to template that's a it was hard for me not to just leave the template. I don't know how to find that was my comment on Genevieve's post but yeah it's you with the templates and then it's the finished product. Okay. Spice racks and they look really good. Yeah well I didn't know that we were going to get into spice rack talk but I guess what I realized is we had done that project a project that was like literally a year and a half in the making and I'm finally like okay this looks good and then I'm like okay maybe I'll go take care of my home goods list like we have a couple of kitchen drawers that are just like so sloppy just like everything thrown in there like so happy hazardly like that's not really my move and I do have to find common ground with Genevieve like Genevieve is just never going to be as fastidious as I am as far as keeping drawers neat but like we just had those crappy like little rubber made silverware organizers and each of these drawers and they didn't even take up the whole drawer and there's stuff piled in there.
They've been as I say it kind of hurts my soul to open those drawers and so I'm like I'm going to home goods I'm buying some nice liner for these drawers getting some bamboo organizers and trying to that I'm in there I just was like oh I like this travel mug like I'm not even a travel muggy kind of guy but I was like daddy gets a treat like this is like 999 or whatever. Is that a Stanley or no it's a manna so it's like kind of Stanley ask it's like guys powder coated yeah powder coated it's like shape it's like the shape of a mug with a hand. But it'll stay warmer and so I'm just in there and I'm just like you know what just whatever you want just like treat yourself and so I'm in there just I got myself a little come myself a little like paper towel holder that I wasn't planning on getting and my god Luke I honestly for the new kitchen yeah that one for downstairs instead of just having a role the paper towels laying around now it's got a little you know just slip on slip it on the top little but that is kind of it's like what I liked about it was it's sort of a matte finish it's sort of a matte finish it's just kind of a blue matte finish it's not like everything you know you got to be careful in there you're going to go home with a bunch of chrome and gold you know
it'll make me look like that so I'm a kid named Brindley. And the kid name Brindley. If you're not careful how did you know I didn't did you know you post that too I came home with the kid named Brindley that was response to my comment on the Instagram post. But anyway I just wanted to say and I honestly had the thought today I'm like I'm going to go back there later this week and I thought no you know what like I was vibing in there so hard Luke I'm like I I'm going to treat this like a dare program where I'm not going to overdo this drug right away because I want it to be as powerful the next time I go in there it was a treat. Smart yeah you know I had a moment like that yesterday at my place in that I don't know you know just there was you know I've been traveling for a long time I guess I'm traveling again now but like I've been traveling I got back home I went to oh a dolly partenshow Oh yeah yeah yeah they involved almost no dolly partens oh really it was really fun I'm really glad we went but it was first of all the person playing dolly partens did not have blonde hair that would take you out of it to me yeah really took me out of the moment us out of the moment me and Becca and Scott and Tiff and then we at the end of it we all said this was super fun we're really glad we did this there was almost no dolly partens in this show.
Which was again it was it was the this thing was had been planned and they had put this show up before dolly partens passed away so it wasn't like they weren't jumping on you know the sort of the passing of dolly partens but it was like if you were a dolly if you had been a dolly partens fan in some way where it was like I want everything dolly partens and we're going to go to this show because it's going to be so dolly partens it was like just a bunch of like hip hop songs where it was a kind of a kind of a burlesque show it was just like kind of people very fit people kind of grinding to various like little clips of hip hop songs and then a me a version of 9 to 5 that sounded like if Depeche mode did did 9 to 5 but it was like and that was also 20 seconds it was like 20 seconds of Depeche mode to doing 9 to 5 it was it was really just but all that all that is to say so yesterday I got to just actually be in my place I did that long run I got angry at dogs and their owners but then I got home and I was just in my kitchen I was heating up some tamales that I had bought if if there are ever
tamales that are being sold by a person who to me looks like they might be from Latin America I am buying them that is that is my ally allyship and so do you buy these sorry for my ignorance on this I have not had tons of tamales every now and then you know especially now that somebody will come selling them in a bar late at night or whatever you buy one and I was exactly how I got okay so I you these weren't ones that you bought like it a stand with the expectation that you take them home and finish preparing them yourself like they came fully done they were fully cooked but I did by them leaving a bar after the dolly partner okay and forgot I was the owner of them okay until until Saturday when I was about to jump my car I'm back I was like are you going to take the tamales I was like I'm sorry she was like the six tamales you bought leaving the bar after the dolly part and things like she said leave the gun take the tamales exactly that's her Sarah vowel book that she's writing yeah so so yeah I took the tamales and I looked up online how to reheat them turns out
bamboo steamer oh nice you got one of them because they're in you know they're in a sort of a husk yep like a corn husk thing and the bamboo steamer really brings them back to their original you know whatever it is you know the fervor so I was just in my kitchen and it helps with the seahawks were winning and I was doing my little thing and I was taking a paper towel off of the paper towel holder and there was just everything kind of seemed to be where I wanted it to be in the kitchen which is to say like I had this moment of being like hey I did this me and Walt built this this thing and that's where the paper towel holder goes it was you know the coat hang the coat hook moment that I talk about a lot it kind of happened yesterday and I was just like yeah this is nice I like that there's stuff in here that is you know think these are things that I bought to do a job and they're doing the job I have this bamboo steamer and it goes in this place and then I needed a paper towel and I got it off the paper towel thing and then I had bought one of those cans of like um jalapenos but like you know from the kind of like Mexican food section of the
grocery store some herde or des jalapenos which I only ate two of because I was going to get on a flight oh so I like don't you know jalapeno they kind of pickled in the cans yes super pickled so yeah but I had a couple of those and then I put that I needed I was like well now I you know the the lid it was you know it's a metal can so when you take the lid off it's done so it was like let me get a glass dish like I would call it Tupperware but it's not you know let me get a glass thing I pour the remains of these jalapenos and the juice and the little carrots little chopped up carrots oh yeah yeah that kind yeah and then put the lid on it and put that in the fridge it just it just was this moment of feeling like I worked really hard on this and also spent way too much money for all these little things and geegas and but they're all here right now and I'm using them and it felt good which is my way of saying I'm going to home goods later yeah don't just don't overdo it I don't want to see you OD and home goods I did a fat rail of home goods
off of a pet smart spot and that is the perfect way to get into the donors I had a question for you about how the steamer works with that seemed like a better time just to go right into the donors but I would also love to answer any steamer related questions because we have one of those Genevieve has one of those but I always know them as like sort of the the thing that keeps things warm and then when you're being served dumplings at a restaurant do you actually take the the thing and put it on top of steamed like boiling water or something to actually steam it so it's like a you know like a pan a big pan with with water in it and then you place the bamboo steamer in the water and then the water heats up and it and it steams through the the bamboo thing interesting and it heats it up I am a little bit embarrassed that I got this information from the AI overview I'd how to use it you mean yeah I was like first of all it's very sad that I had to gorgl yesterday best way to heat up tamales but I did and then the AI
overview said the best way to heat up these tamales is to put them in a bamboo steamer and put that you know goods because I have like I you know I buy these at trader Joe's I buy these vegetarian soup dumplings yeah okay that are they're not you know they're not dinti fun levels but they are they're passable and those are the kind of thing that I put in the steamer you know when I'm when I'm steaming things that is really interesting because we have one of those and it looks cool but we never use it and I didn't I didn't know that it was a cooking instrument I thought it was only like a serving instrument so this is actually opening new doors for me you know what else I like to do in there is broccoli sometimes I'll steam broccoli in there which I know you're a broccoli roaster I I love broccoli in almost all of its forms I love but it's it's a good you can do you can steam broccoli in there and it's really tasty so and you can do tamales nice you ever find yourself with them um I want to thank some of our donors today of course this is a 100% listener supported podcasting I was on my job yesterday when I wasn't getting angry at people in Longview
Washington I was listening to podcasts and I was listening to a couple of real like popular podcasts like the bulwark where they're they they are you know there's a lot of listeners to the bulwark and they have ads you know for all kinds of products which tells me they're doing well they have enough listeners that there are ads and they also have some kind of a subscription donation program and I thought must that be nice that must be amazing to both have the amount of listeners where you can like do an ad for god knows what and then also also have a subscription model we don't have that we only have folks like Elizabeth McCullough in Columbus Ohio hey the buck guy state thank you Elizabeth but wait a second I can't tell if you're being sarcastic isn't this isn't this so much better than our than our than the situation of having to paywall things or have ads like this is wonderful this is ad free and I love I love what we're doing here I love that we don't
have ads although no one's offering I'm just saying there are people out there Andrew that are just making money hand over fist remember that um one time we were scrolling I think it was when we got in our real dawn Felder bag about about who was playing at the emerald queen casino and there were something called the giggle squad oh you sure yeah they were very popular they just signed like a hundred and thirty million dollar contract with serious are you are you serious right now you're giving the giggle squad and yeah and I see these things that seems like that seems like 2023 behavior that's kind of crazy I'm not you I'm not joking like that's no I know I know that was my thought when I read the article I was like have hasn't that bubble popped yeah what's going on there but but yes and as I was listening to the bulwark I was thinking boy they are just printing money we are not printing money but we are getting to do this show for our job which is phenomenal yes and there are no ads you don't have to hear us do an ad for a literally yesterday Tim Miller was doing an ad for it's some kind of water based mattress system not the one that we did I don't think
not a different leap it's I don't think it was eight sleep but it was funny because I could tell that he and his husband do not actually have it but he was trying to talk about it yeah I listen to kind of like I've always perked up for that to get right up around the edge of the you the user experience or the the talent experience on us bringing his own personal experience into it but then like don't you don't you hate it what I just get there night I was having trouble but then like not saying that's why I now sleep on yeah just exactly right I know I'm because you and I have been in so many meetings about that and then had to read the copy ourselves and knowing what the emphasis is from the advertisers or the the clients or whatever I'm always very very attuned to exactly what wordage the hosts are using well we don't have to do any of that Andrew because we are fully supported by folks like Elizabeth and also Kenneth Mahia who's in San Francisco California hey and just thank you Kenneth south of me right now north of me I had to look around here in the west
cluster he's behind you oh my god Kenneth Kenneth oh he just wants to give you a hug it's okay he's just all right he's just what can I just Andrew I just remembered something this is T.B. T.L. TV everybody can see me from the first episode the first episode that we did of T.B. T.L. TV I was highly aware that it was filmed that's completely gone out the window and you and I doing our little our little radio acting there and everybody knows that's nobody behind you yeah I first do our talent I think and the moraying did you know what I was talking about at the beginning of the show yes you see what this jacket is doing yeah how it sort of thin lines together kind of give a weird effect yeah a little kind of a strange thing anyway thank you Kenneth thanks to Julia Bush who's in Providence Rhode Island hey dude this is Andrew this is a really great distribution today we got Columbus Ohio where Elizabeth is San Fran when Kenneth is Julia is in Providence yes now all of these are yes it's great that's a great spread across the country but all kind of
northern right now right up in the northern sectors but now we're gonna go even further north to Nova Scotia no even further south to Tallahassee Florida that's right where Molly Jamison is Molly like the drug Jamison like the whiskey I didn't think you needed that pronouncer but I love that Molly included it and it really put me in a good Monday morning Molly sounds like a fun you're gonna be paying for it the next day absolutely yeah but Molly sounds like a real fun hang thank you Molly we appreciate you thanks to Matthew Roberts of Hoffman Estates Illinois thank you Matthew so we've got Ohio California Rhode Island Florida and Illinois I really flexed with the guy on my flight yesterday who I was talking to who I kind of assessed was like a kind of a moto guy like a guy who was into you know like he wasn't like a whole roller or anything you know
he wasn't a bad dude but he's what I knew is that when I told him I drove grave digger oh yeah he was gonna be pretty impressed and it was in the case he was pretty impressed but that was impacts to Illinois that's why I'm thinking of it I don't know how close it is to Hoffman Estates Illinois but but Matthew is down there in Hoffman Estates thank you so much thanks to Michelle Coggan of Ridge Field Washington Andrew I just drove through Ridge Field Washington yesterday to go to the airport do roll Cole I didn't I know the Mazda doesn't do that I've tried I've tried so the CX-5 does not come with that feature they make any electric vehicles that roll Cole they know that would be an accomplishment I when Bex and I were on our on our Galavant in Portland on on this weekend two different electric cars drove oh okay okay sorry I know we have top stories to get to and things and such but a couple of things two electric cars drove by that had that like different sounds you
know how with electric car they have to give it a sound because it doesn't make a sound yep and it was unsettling and uncanny they need to make the sounds sound like a motor of a car I think because that's what I'm turning around because they sort of sound like spaceships now right one of us and it kind of like it like it was coming from around the corner I thought like they're here for us I'm also working on a story about UFOs so I've got a lot of extra terrestrial stuff on the brain but it was like I feel like they need to work on the sound of the electric cars I'm just trained to hear a combustion engine and I think they just need to make them sound like a combustion engine you know what I heard today that was very eerie I was walking well it's also going to sound areas I set it up as I'm a walk with Lucy but we were walking through the cemetery right now this very large cemetery I heard ghosts end of story no this very large cemetery also unfortunately is home to an oversized coyote population and it's very rare that I see coyotes actually in you know and I didn't see any
today I've seen them before but I think they get up a little bit earlier than me usually this is like I don't know nine in the morning or something but a fire truck was going by somewhere you know now I couldn't see it but I could hear a fire truck with its siren going maybe I don't know a half a mile away or something and then I heard all of the coyotes wherever they were howling at it in response it was a very eerie sound like you would think a coyote higher pitched and more humanly I got chased by coyotes in Dublin California ones on a jog I think I remember this they yipped uh-huh yeah the if for the if just say it's rock yeah I said oh no I'm I'm Dale another guy said it was really eerie though that it was higher pitched than I expected yeah was sort of chippy yeah yeah yeah the other thing that happened when we were out listening to electric cars was we found this alley in Portland, Andrew which it seems like the kind of thing that
you and I would find deeply cringe except it was so charming it is this I think it's like I'm not kidding I think it's called like the happiness alley or something it is this alley that is you know as we know about alleys it's all these houses you know it's the backside of all these houses they've painted the entire alley different colors they've put up all these different little flags there are little activities when you walk through this that's fun I like this but see this is the kind of stuff that I usually kind of like look at scansack it's like performative you know pressure Andrew I hula hooped in this oh wow they actually have actual toy I thought it was like hopscotch and stuff on the ground but they have that too they have who that one of the houses had hula hoops which I did it's kind of fun I got complimented by two elder lesbians at my hula hooping skills which is a high compliment we come out of the alley and I run into Ken Jennings and his wife oh do you
show how you're you show him how you hula hoop I wanted to I was like hey can you just stay there for a minute run back and get this hoop going we come out of this happiness alley which again I was shocked at how happy it made me because I was just like that kind of you know that again that sort of feeling pressure to have fun is the thing that usually makes me want to not have fun it was just so lovely and it just made me so happy that all these also I've talked about how like too much of the internet that I look at is people being mad at their neighbors about property lines and stuff like petty stuff that you shouldn't care about the idea that all of these people got on board with this and nobody was like okay but I don't want it to be my part of the alley like the fact that everybody was in on this was so cute and just the joy that it that it made you know for me and Becca and then the other people that were walking through and then so I we come out of this alley and we're going down the street and then it's Ken Jennings who I knew was in Portland because we had been trying to get him on live wire a couple weeks ago we had a son of Sessian was
scheduled to be on the show she's like famous for being Conan O'Brien's assistant and her whole kind of stick was like she was the world's worst assistant and now she's had some kids and so she wrote a book about like being the world's worst mother or something so she had to bail on the show because they were doing they had changed their shoot for Conan had changed their shoot schedule and so suddenly she couldn't be on live wire so we're trying to find a guess so I text Ken I was like I can try to get Ken on I text Ken I go hey would you like to be on the live wire like next week he goes who canceled so no more of Sessian he goes talk about the world's worst talk show that's great right fantastic totally this is oh oh sorry go ahead good no so I was like I was like I was like yeah it's this he goes well the funny thing is we're going to be in Portland but the night you're doing the show is our actual anniversary so we're you know we're doing anniversary stuff that night which I assume means you know oh oh geez this is why you subscribe to TBTL me just did it I know vulgar gesture how do you beep thing I might I'm gonna figure it a way to
beat that on visual I'm gonna you know I'm gonna do whatever they did on whatever they did on that high rocks competitor where who was that on my face would get that I can fix you fix a late that yeah but he was like oh he goes it's so funny we're gonna be in Portland and I would love to do the show but actually the night you're doing the the recording is the actual night of our anniversary and I was like okay no problem I was like you know next time so when I'm walking up the tree I see him I go well you weren't lying about being in Portland I can see that he didn't recognize me uh-huh because just you know whatever he's he's now kind of pretty famous yeah and I saw in him the look of a person who's like you and I always joke like if you see us in public you have to say something but like we're not actually famous he's actually famous now to where people probably shout stuff at him oh yeah sure yeah in airports and the like I could see his face going into a thing that was like someone has clocked me as Ken Jennings they're saying a weird thing to me in a split second you try to stare straight ahead and not get into this but it was me and I was saying so you
weren't lying about being in Portland Ken and then did it take him a second and then he yeah then he looked up and then I introduced I always do this you know with with people that are you know famous who I've met at some point I in even people who aren't famous I just don't ever assume that anyone would remember me so I'm like Luke Burbank and he was like oh yeah and then his wife and he said to his wife you've met Luke and she goes I don't think I have oh really have you I do think we met okay yeah that's it wow she really big dogged you super big dog yeah and I was like uh we met at your house so we were filming there for CBS and um anyway they were they were lovely it was very fun talking to them but that was just a whole I guess on the topic of Portland Oregon that was that was the story about Portland Oregon this weekend there's no need for me to wedge this in here but I got to say this is weird because I was actually thinking about him this weekend I don't know why maybe because you know I follow him on blue sky or something and I saw something and I was actually ruminating maybe while or show pick today I'm going to use the photo I took of my organized drawers uh but come on man I just figured out the blurring I'm trying to
add some visual value yeah the visual values are going to be a big black screen as I just like edit out the video entirely um this is this is I'm embarrassed to admit this but I was actually on the little flight of fancy thinking I wonder if he has any idea who I am because I've met him once he was over at our old apartment to do a T. B. T. L. thing but I mean without prompting because he didn't I'm sorry Genevieve and Mindy know each other they belong some same like cooking friendship groups they get together every couple of months or something like that um and so there's no doubt about it that the and I Genevieve went to her birthday party and stuff so like if you were to say and I don't I have no idea why I'm bringing this up but like I I was in a um conversation with somebody via text a while back because some people were I think unfairly maligning him online and then I saw it without context somebody kind of brought that brought that poison over to a T. B. T. L. community which I didn't really appreciate and so I was talking to that person about it and at some point it occurred to me oh I think this person
thinks I'm friends with him like I'm feeling defensive about him as if I know that I don't I just think that people were being really stupid about this thing to be frank with you but but it occurred to me I was like oh I think this person thinks we're friends or something that's not where this is coming from but then since then it's always it's been a little seed in the back of my head where I was like are we friends what if somebody were to say do you know the name Andrew Oscar's there are enough there are enough little pin points in my life that he might he also has a sharp brain that's right yeah not to not to not to be insulting to you but I bet you he definitely knows who you are recognize the name me some of it is because of probably T. B. T. L. and and and Genevieve's relationship with his wife but also that guy doesn't forget anything yeah right he is the knower he literally is the knower of things and and so I'm sure he totally knows who you are because again because to some degree you've made an impression on him but also because he just clocks everything yeah and like because of his relationship with Rodrick and like I know
another person who's friends with Rodrick and just sort of the podcasting thing I just feel like maybe at this point he would just be like oh he's he would definitely be like oh he's the dude me I'm the dude who doesn't the thing with Luke that that would be the best case scenario that I'd be able to get out of that but it just occurred to me I think he would say that's the that's the partner of Genevieve who knows my wife mate yeah maybe it would be one of those two probably but it just occurred to me as mad your house imagine how heartbroken you would be if you were the if he was once again a competitor on jeopardy and you were the question slash answer and he didn't get it right this public radio host is both on CBS news and host week a weekly do you want to on state show and Ken Jennings is like as embarrassed as I'm not saying you're embarrassed or you should be but as much as you like are like weirdly I was wondering if Ken Jennings knows about me this weekend I wonder if if when I die I wonder to what level will there be an o-bit for me
yeah like I kind of like a Oregonian right with the Seattle Times right and it's weird because I kind of think I don't care but obviously I care a little bit you know do you mean in that in that I wonder about it like I don't have any legacy I'm not trying to burnish a legacy I don't think that like I really one of the many things you have been commas with Mike Tyson I believe you don't believe in legacy and you bit somebody's ear off once now yours was outside of a bowl like I raised I raised home pictures that's an epigen thing I was talking actually speaking of a live where I was talking to this guy Elliott Glazer he was on the show he's a comedy writer and he's now the host of this new podcast called like so you think you can sports because he is not a person who knows about sports or the premise is you know he learns about sports and it's produced by Charles Barkley he was on live where Elliott was on live where this last week and he said apparently Mike Tyson has agreed to do the show and he goes I
am so excited and so terrified yeah those are the emotions you should feel right now like I think interviewing Mike Tyson would be depending on the day either the greatest day of your life or the most terrifying day of your life would you have him on live wire oh without a doubt do you think your staff would be cool with that given if so no more obsessed and well God that's a really good question you know he you know he had very I mean went to jail he went to prison so he had very real and I would say proven allegations of sexual violence and I'm a little embarrassed that I have kind of like just blocked that out I'm thinking about this kind of thing because you know Kobe Bryant had a very real thing as well he settled it it didn't go to court yeah but he settled it and just the other day online I was reading something where somebody was basically like you know the thing we don't talk about enough yeah with Kobe I'm in LA today so it's maybe even more present in my mind it's like yeah it's it's it's it's weird how there are certain people like
like if you would have asked me would you have Harvey Weinstein on the show I'd be like well of course not that would be an obvious no but it's just like Mike Tyson has just done enough crazy shit in his life post that part of his life that I've I've sort of put that in the back of my mind and I'm a little embarrassed about that honestly well I wasn't trying to put you on the spot I was just sort of thinking like would you're because I know that your producers are very kind of you know kind of protective of the audience I think in a in a good way too and they're very conscientious of that stuff so I was like oh that would be an interesting that would be an interesting kind of scenario yeah that's a good you know I guess I guess the good news is I don't know if I'm gonna have to actually ever test the theory yeah probably not but it would be but that's a that's an interesting question yeah I mean like what is the point at which when someone has done something truly awful like that that you know we sort of I don't know continue to engage with them you know yeah yeah yeah I guess I hadn't really thought about it that way but um luckily Ken Jen is I think above reproach in my book
he's also this is the thing about him he's so funny when we walked away Becca was like why is he so smart and so funny I'm like because he is just he is so smart that he understands the math of being funny like he said two or three things in the conversation that were just like so drool and so just like you know there are people who are smart who try to be funny and they just because they're trying to do it like a math problem they're like well this plus this equals this and it doesn't quite work he is somehow he is so smart that he is also smart at his way into also being hilarious yeah I feel is unfair kind of quick-witted kind of is that almost dropped I almost dropped a Mormon reference on him we were talking about Bon Voy and like it's own you know it's a Marriott thing that the Marriott family is Mormon oh I didn't know that when I was talking about a Mormon Bible being in one of the hotel rooms I had stayed in and I thought that was kind of random somebody emailed us and was like well because the Marriott family is Mormon oh yeah okay sure and so we were talking about like where he stays when he's in LA for doing jeopardy and he goes
I'm not in any of those whatever I was like you got to get him I was thinking you got to get him Bon Voy those are your people yeah maybe I had the thought I shut the fuck out look at that that is what we call garage no maturity that's exactly what we call garage no maturity I was gonna get in them guts and then I didn't geez Louise I'm sorry I raised that hello and welcome to top story we're already getting a little long in the tooth here but I just want to tell you quickly that there's a story that's having I think a surprising reaction online which is a guy in a movie theater in Burbank California pepper sprayed another guy for being on his phone and the internet has sided with the guy who did the pepper spray and I will be honest with you I think that's an extreme reaction I don't think we should be pepper spraying people for no reason but I had the same general general instinct which was I was mad I was more mad at the person
who was on their phone than the person who deployed the pepper spray in the theater now let me ask you this because I'm assuming you're going to have to guess at this but you might have read something so you sent me a link to this article in like the Oregon live or whatever that website is and I don't have access to it but I kind of I think I might have skirted the paywall a little bit to get a little bit more information but never in anything I read did I see somebody explain what being on the phone meant does that mean a conversation does that mean scrolling does that mean you know there's a being on your phone means a lot of different things and I didn't get a I didn't get evidence necessarily that this is somebody who is talking on their phone I have only read one article the one that you're referencing which actually came from Syracuse.com oh okay so so the Syracuse newspaper apparently the Oregonian picked it up oh I see okay yeah yeah um but it this is what they say NBC reports that Matthew Wareh age 34 of Los Angeles California is accused of deploying pepper spray in a Burbank movie theater Burbank police department investigators say he
was upset with another patron who was using their phone during the movie and sprayed them so yeah I am guessing talking on the phone right I mean I don't want to give Matthew too much credit but can you imagine if it was scrolling that's what I don't know yeah somebody was scrolling on their phone and you pepper sprayed them I can't agree with that well what if they were scrolling and playing audio out of their phone because I mean people do all kinds of stuff you know they mean like it could have cut them, cut them, taste them pepper spray they could have been scrolling through TikTok and had the sound up because I would not put that I mean obviously this person was doing something that was irritating people around like the two screen experience when I go into like a quick you know like for a quick lunch now I don't I used to do this a lot more but like the other day I went to you know like tan brothers oh sorry hit my microphone I was gesturing to Luke and the listeners who are watching on YouTube the direction which tan brothers is come on it is over my shoulder as I sit here but anyway I was at tan brothers fall you know it's just like it's like you know you know walk in it's like a luncheon that's kind of vibe yeah I like it better words
for my money that's the best fun in Seattle by the way yeah me me to me to there's a place called miss fa that is that is newer that is by the whole men road QFC that also has incredible broth it's like kind of broth that when you sip it you're almost like am I getting super powers from this you know they mean how it can be so like kind of is there anything more restorative when you are hungover then or sick yeah or sick yeah yeah or sick from being hungover exactly or sick from eating too much fun you gotta eat more but anyway all of that is to say I go in there and it was only like one other patron in there and I like kind of I went to sit down kind of maybe if I say three tables away and then I realized oh he's scrolling volumes up and then I just before I sat down I didn't make a big two do of it but I was like oh no I'm just gonna go and I'd ramp a simpson to do a different you know to sort of turn down my heels and went to a different table somewhere like I now need to do that I want you have to scope a place out
because it's very common for people just be like yeah of course I'm sitting here alone why wouldn't I just be watching and listening to content on my phone well you know what I do now which is I guess the solution I bring my headphones everywhere my little you know air pod headphones and if I'm in a restaurant by myself there's a very good chance I just have my headphones sure yeah I'm scrolling yeah I wouldn't but I do that but I mean I do that because I also don't want to hear like if somebody doesn't have headphones oh yeah like I'm basically blocking out the world sure yeah with these headphones kind of at all times if I'm going somewhere by myself which is a lot of the time it turns out I'm pretty much bringing the headphones so that I can just again scroll on my own and also block out the rest of the world yeah um according to police officers they responded the AMC around 5 30 pm they did not provide details about the victim or their condition but said two other patrons were treated at a local hospital after experiencing irritation
with the pepper spray they were at a viewing of the uprising a new drama starring Andrew Garfield as a Robin Hood-like character I have seen a trailer for this the uprising back in I were at some movie I'm forgetting which one and this trailer played it actually looked pretty compelling oh I haven't I don't think I've heard of this it's Andrew Garfield again as a he must it must be loosely based on some real person who existed uh and it's you know it's sort of medieval England I guess I don't know if they called it England at the time but you know it's basically all of the lords are taking you know too much from their serfs in this kind of feudal environment and Andrew Garfield isn't going to have it anymore and I wonder if that wasn't also in the mind of the pepper sprayer of in yeah I'm not gonna have it anymore because he was also basically if he was having his own uprising where he was just like enough is enough and I'm going to pepper spray
this person and again that is an extreme response and nobody should support that but there is something to the fact that most people online are are siding with the pepper sprayer it tells you that we have reached a point of incivility in this world where most of us when they hear they're like he probably had a reason to do that it's like there's a shift in like what is except I uh had a similar thought about AI when I saw a commercial yesterday during the football game for indeed the like job seeking app or whatever and um the whole pitch was about how we're human humans need humans and it was like all that and they never used the word AI but I was like last year indeed was probably advertising how they use special AI you know platforms or technology to match some of the other right job but like for the most AI of a job platform and other like we would never yeah now they're not saying they don't use AI but they're now campaigning and saying
what we need right now is humans talking to humans I thought oh that's a harbinger you know you can have all of the people who are like trying saying what they need to say to avoid oversight or regulation or you know everything that's happening sort of in the more political world or actually the technology world but then when you just have like there's nothing more pure that tells you where we are society than people who are trying to take your money you know exactly that's really interesting it is the most accurate indicator yeah where the of all do use the word again of where the sort of zeitgeist is like we pepper spray AI when we see it by the way you just want to mention one thing and I'm sorry to get us off topic but you mentioned this movie what is this movie called again I had not heard the uprising uprising as you were describing I'm just like that is really interesting that's really interesting casting and that's because I realized I thought you were talking about Andrew Garcia whose Andrew Garfield again Andrew Garfield is a very handsome British fella I think he was maybe Spider-Man at some point I thought he might have been a spider-Man
friend in the original the social network which I know they just they're doing a new one oh they are oh reviews by the way yeah Aaron Sorkin has written a new one where it's like the guy from succession is playing is he Zuckerberg in this I think it's basically Jeremy guy the Jeremy strong Jeremy Jeremy strong yeah he's something in this and basically Aaron Sorkin has now written like he's written the sequel to the social network because the social network was kind of like the beginning of you know Facebook and stuff and I think Jesse Eisenberg played like Zuckerberg yeah yeah yeah and so now he's done another one but all the reviews I'm hearing from people that I trust are like this is just speaking of old man yells at cloud sure yeah like Aaron's this is not Aaron Sorkin's finest work is what I'm hearing about it but but anyway but yeah Andrew Garfield was in I think the original social network and other things picture it might wait I think I'm confused who's Andrew Garcia no I'm not I'm not I'm thinking of Ned Holness aka mind of men'sia are you
thinking of Carlos men'sia no I don't know I'm not thinking of Carlos that's the other that there was his call miss his real name is Ned Holness and and Carlos men'sia got really big he had a show called mind of men'sia but then also he stole everybody's jokes and then he got called out on I think Marin called him out and there was another we talked about this this is years and years ago but basically there was some podcast that made its bones on calling out Carlos men'sia for jokes dealing I think it might have been Marin so it might have been really the thing oh okay I'm not that far off although this whole thing is so cringe and embarrassing for me you're thinking of one time 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia I'm thinking of Andy Garcia I called him Andrew I let I was only on I mean it's stupid you would interest you shouldn't have known that I was thinking of Andy when I said Andrew I understand that he's very famous in Andy Garcia funny but I started up that hand in my head I was like am I who what it well then what is Andrew's last name okay so I was confusing Andy Garcia yes the Andrew Garfield and don't you wouldn't you say that this movie
would be very different if Andy Garcia were playing the lead than Andrew Garfield that's why I was like what how did I miss this the uprising the indigestion in the uprising okay they had okay somebody somebody got on a boat and came over here from somewhere else and they're leading this uprising but what I think is interesting about that is how how different we think of someone if they're an Andrew versus an Andy yes well I mean like when you say Andrew Garcia I'm like that is a person who doesn't exist and you're like Andy Garcia I'm like oh yeah the guy the actor well I yeah it's the same name it's the same name I don't know why it's so cemented as one or the other in my mind but yeah Andy Garcia he was also he was big in oceans 11 he was the bad guy in ocean in fact that's how I got to his name I typed in oceans 11 cast here I grew up in Andy and then at a certain point really didn't want to be called Andy anymore and worked really really hard to kind of get people to start calling me Andrew and that was eventually successful probably sometime in my 20s or something but I had something happen today where I was checking an email about
our volunteer list and I was looking at who had volunteered this weekend in my absence and I saw that a couple of people signed up two people who hadn't been really volunteering with the group in a really long time but they were kind of the founding group of people started it and their names are Bridget and Andrew and I saw that they signed up on Sunday but they were signed off as Bridget and Drew these are folks about my age maybe even maybe a little bit older I don't know but about my age and I was just like that's interesting is Andrew let's say a man in his 50s I could see a drill for Drew I tried that first Drew never stuck with really well I tried to go from Andy to Drew it never stop you don't seem like an Andy at all you seem like an Andrew but I could also I would accept a Drew I would accept the Drew too if people what they call me Drew somebody texted me the other day and called me Walzky and I was like I haven't heard that in a long time and and I think that's fun there are different people from different periods of my life who somehow land on a Walzky for me and they don't in other words they don't know each other it's not like something
of the through line how do you how do you feel about that I like it I'm Polish yeah it's fun it's friendly well it's flirty I'll take it do you where where are we in the show in your schedule right now how are you feeling what do you want to do we're at the part of my schedule where I'm supposed to go film I will tell you about this on the show tomorrow but like I'm here in L.A. doing this TV story where none of the people that were supposed to interview want to be interviewed for some crazy reason and we just had people falling out left and right although allegedly there is one more interview to do today so hopefully the person will not bail on us but yeah we should I should probably try to wrap all right well it sounds I'm legit interested in that and I'm sorry that I talk too much about home goods because I wanted to hear and true before the show Drusky you can't talk too much about home goods there's nothing I love more than consuming things for the home environment did you see my eyes light up to talk about how I had a moment in my kitchen where I'm like that's where that goes that's where I get that from these were all purchases I made so I love I love I love I'm surprised that you you haven't been you haven't been steaming stuff in
your life it's it I think that was something I still don't really know how to cook but I got on that bamboo steamer train fairly early because it's it's pretty much idiot proof which is which is right up my alley and you dip it in the water it doesn't sit above the water you dip it in it's in the water the bamboo the bamboo thing staying the reason I'm asking is if I if I steam myself some dumplings but then Genevieve comes home and I've put water stains at the bottom of her bamboo steamer am I going to be in trouble I mean that's the design to purpose I think is it supposed to have it also smells really good I'm thinking about going to like the store right now with bamboo which I know that doesn't seem like it would be a good smell but it is smells like wet bamboo now I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm hooked we have to door dash some fun here and have them bring it in a bamboo steamer so all right that's gonna do it for today's episode thank you so much everybody for listening we are gonna be right back here tomorrow with more imaginary radio for all of you so please do join us for that in the meantime have a great Monday take care of yourselves and please
remember no mountain to tall and good luck to all all your stuff
