Welcome to the show everyone 49ers first dolphins game preview show. And I'm super excited to talk about this game. And there's going to be lots of things that we're going to go through. We're going to talk about the current injury report. What's going on with all that? Who's going to be playing in this game? What we expect from elevations from the practice squad? Who's going to be inactive and active? We're going to talk about that. We're going to talk about key matchups in this game. Offensively defensively how the 49ers have to handle offense defense and special teams to defeat. Miami dolphins and what summer calling a trap game.

3:02And I think that this is a game you just got to be on your pees and cues. But it's like that every week in the NFL. You got to make sure you're ready to take on the very best in the NFL. And this week it's going to be the dolphins and the 49ers got to go out there and get it done. But we're going to also go through some wild. That's bold predictions. And then of course we're going to get to the predictions of who's going to win this game. A couple of predictions I think as far as bets with all the numbers coming from fan duel. So all that in this episode I love doing the game preview show. It all builds to this all week. We do content on 49ers for stulfons. So let's look at the injuries and what's interesting is as of right now time of recording. And this could change by the time you watch it. We are you know about 27 hours away from kickoff. Dejon Stribbing is still not on the IR officially and there were some reports earlier in the week that Stribbling had went on the IR. That did not happen a lot of this is paperwork stuff. So we'll see what happens if the 49ers ultimately put them on IR. They are kind of juggling the fact that you can't pull everyone off of IR that they have on right now. It was getting a little bit more complicated with some of the decisions they're going to have to make. But Dejon Stribbing is listed as out. And so we'll see what happens the move to IR seems likely. And then the 49ers can move accordingly and that will probably mean elevating somebody from the practice squad. Someone like Agbo Ocaruano co moving officially to the 49ers act of 53 man roster. And then the 49ers signing a kicker because Eddie Pinierro is listed as questionable.

5:07And I think there's a belief that Eddie Pinierro could be ready to go Sunday. But the fact that he didn't practice Wednesday Thursday or Friday. It's given the 49ers some pause. So he's got today to go ahead and get healthy. See what he looks like tomorrow. But expect the 49ers to sign a kicker. It'll come out at some point today to put on the practice squad to be available to kick in case Eddie Pinierro is not going. Which means you're going to have to elevate a kicker if Eddie Pinierro can't go. So that's going to be something interesting to watch over the next 24 hours to see how this thing develops. And what kicker that is Kyle Shanen said they were deciding between a couple of kickers of who to add to the practice squad. So Eddie Pinierro it could be up in the air. Could make things a little bit more interesting for the 49ers that are looking for a field goal in this game. Because right now Kyle Shanahan just 100% believes Eddie Pinierro is going to make every single kick that he lines up the kick. And I do too. I'm shocked when he doesn't make it. So this could be a factor in this football game. Maybe the 49ers need an extra first down or two to feel comfortable getting a field goal.

6:09So you might get a couple extra fourth down situation where the 49ers go for it. But we'll see maybe Eddie Pinierro will be out there. It won't be an issue. But right now we don't know. And then K-Lon Black is listed as questionable with the growing injury. And I think where this plays into it is I think K-Lon Black is going to play. I think that they are being careful with him. Kyle Shanahan took the K-BR and said as such that they're just being careful he's had some tightness. But I do believe that this might mean the 49ers have Jordan James active for this game. For the mere fact of just in case something happens with K-Lon Black. You don't have to put a heavy load on Christian McCaffrey. You don't have to put a heavy load on D-Bo Samuille. But Jordan James could kind of withstand some of that. So I think that there's a possibility that Jordan James could be active for this game. No guarantees. I think in the perfect world the 49ers would leave him inactive like they did last week. So that way they could have more roster versatility. Especially with some of the D-Lion question marks and the guys that they have to kind of have available.

7:09Could there are hodges coming to the active roster. Made it a little bit less complicated. So we'll see what happens with wide receiver as well. But I think that there's a chance Jordan James could be active. But they really want K-Lon Black getting those carries. They feel very confident in him. And from everything we saw against Los Angeles Rams, we're all confident in K-Lon Black and what he can do within this offense as well. So that's something the monitor. But I think the belief is K-Lon Black will be ready to go and will play. Now for the Miami Dolphins, they've had some injuries developed over the week. It starts with Ronnie Harrison. He was on the original injury report. And he is out with a hamstring injury. That's a backup linebacker. So that's something to remember. And then the big one is the edge ruster Chop Robinson, the former Penn State player. He's out with a concussion. So losing some pass rush off the edge is going to be extremely important for this Miami Dolphins defense. It was already a defense that struggled last week against Las Vegas, gave up 27 points, struggled to get consistent pressure on Kurt Cousins.

8:09And now you're losing one of those guys coming off the edge that maybe could have threatened the 49ers, Colt McKibits, and made things a little bit more difficult because he is a speed rush element coming off the edge. Chop Robinson is not going to be in there. And so the 49ers will move accordingly. It's not that the Dolphins don't still have players available. You know, that are solid defensive ends. But it definitely made it a little bit more difficult for them with Chop Robinson being out. We'll probably see more Robert Beal Jr. the former 49ers player out there playing some defensive end. They still got Josh Uche, but it's extremely interesting group with Mully Karing, Robert Beal Jr. With Chop Robinson being out, I think it's going to be a lot more interesting for them to try to find pass rush for this football team. So Colt McKibits can be lining up against an old teammate. I'm sure he knows Robert Beal Jr. extremely well in this matchup. So that's going to be interesting. And then questionable is their long snap or Tucker Addington, who's dealing with a shoulder injury. Expectations are he's going to play and the long snapper is going to be just fine.

9:11Now let's talk about the coaches. You got Kyle Schaien, the hand for the San Francisco 49ers. He's been doing this for a long time since 2017. And what's funny is when he becomes a head coach for the first time in the NFL on his staff, Jeff Hathley, the head coach of the Miami Dolphin. So familiarity is definitely there. Jeff Hathley has been a very experienced head coach his time at Boston College. He was really good there and then takes the defensive coordinator job with a green Bay Packers and Matt LaFlore and did a good job there. And it results in the Miami Dolphins taking Hathley. What's interesting from the Shanahan tree, Jeff Hathley, Mike Big Day, no, the last two coaches for the Miami Dolphins are there. Now Jeff Hathley, I believe, is going to eventually turn this program around in Miami. I think he's a very good coach. I think he's extremely intelligent and a good talent evaluator. I just don't know how long it's going to take for that to happen. And so I think when you look at the roster, the cupboards are a little bit bare in some areas. Other areas, it's starting to get good. I like their interior offensive line. I like some of the defensive players they've added over the last couple of years.

10:13But they definitely got some building to do with Jeff Hathley. But he's going to do a good job as a head coach. I think he will do great. Now when you're talking play callers, Kyle Shanahan's taking care of business or the 49ers on the offensive side of the ball. And he is the elite of the elite last week. He had the Los Angeles Rams in a blender. And he outshined Sean McVey who's another really good play caller. Maybe top two, top three in the NFL with Kyle Shanahan. And so Shanahan has been on point. Let's see if he can continue that this week. He gets the Miami Dolphids for the play caller. How about Bobby Slowak, another Kyle Shanahan guy. Of course, he has left and went to Houston with Demiko Ryan's working with the quarterbacks. CJ Stroud over there and trying to get things going. It did not work out. Bobby Slowak now lands with Jeff Hathley. It's his first year as office coordinator with the Miami Dolphids. And so this offense is not going to look extremely different from Kyle Shanahan's offense as far as what they want to do with the outside zone scheme and getting Devon A.

11:15Chain out there to make some plays out there getting Malik Willis running. You can see a little bit of differences from what Bobby Slowak does the Kyle Shanahan. You saw it with Houston. But I think that there's familiarity with Jeff Hathley familiarity with Bobby Slowak. These staffs know each other pretty well. The new look at the defensive coordinators. You got Rahim Morris and Rahim Morris was fantastic last week. It was a masterclass the way he slowed down the Rams offense that put up 30.5 points per game. And might say, well, that was last year. It was also all 11 starters returning this season. So minus them just blaming it all on jet lag. The 49ers defense absolutely cooked last week. Rahim Morris was pulling all the right strings getting all the guys in the right spots. They held them to just seven points. The low number in the NFL in week one. It was a great performance for the 49ers. But you're only as good as your last performance. And Rahim Morris and his group is going to be looking to come in and do some damage. And he's going to know Bobby Slowak pretty well because Kyle Shanahan knows Bobby Slowak really well.

12:18And the communication between these two guys is really good. They're friends. But Kyle Shanahan is very good at collaboration and giving detail to help the up. The other coaches on his staff is something that he enjoys doing. So expect where he more is to be prepared for the Miami Dolphins offense. Question is can the players be prepared for that speed of those players? Sean Guggen is the coach, the defensive coordinator. He's been around for a while. Was with Jeff Haffley with the Green Bay Packers. He was a linebacker's coach there. He comes over and runs the defense and him and Jeff Haffley run this in tandem. So they're going to be very much running the same things that he's been doing. There's a lot of similarities to what he liked to do in Green Bay. And so they're going to continue that. You look at the special teams quarter, brand boy, he has put together one of the best special teams units in the NFL. I will not be shocked if they are top two special teams for the season right now. Number six when it comes to DVOA, what I expect them to continue to get better and better and better.

13:18There are really good unit who knows where they end up. But I think that brand boy has coached it up. Extremely well and has got the pieces to be the best special teams unit in the NFL. Then Chris Taber, part of the Miami Dolphins, comes in and he's trying to revitalize the special teams units. It's going to take some time. And they've got a lot of young players that are going to have to contribute on special teams. They struggled mightily last week against the Las Vegas Raiders. 27th best DVOA, but they gave up two good kick returns to Las Vegas. They gave up a punt return for a good field position. They just were struggling in a lot of the areas of special teams, especially when it came to field position. I think that's going to play a big part in this. So Chris Taber is a good coach. He's going to figure it out, but it's going to take some time. And I'm not sure this is the week where the 49ers are running out there. What are the best special teams units in the NFL and for the Miami Dolphins. It's going to be one of the bottom level teams in the league this year. So remember that when thinking about this game, the special teams is going to play a big part in this football game.

14:22And of course, if you are going to bet on this football game, bet with Fandall. The 49ers are 13 and a half point favorites against the Miami Dolphins. That is a big number to go on. But the over under is 45 and a half. You can bet on that with Fandall. And I think when you look at the over under right now, the over is going at minus 102. The under going at minus 120. And they've got a same game parlay that I think is pretty fun. It's a three three leg same game parlay. And it's anytime touchdowns for Malik Willis, Christian McCaffrey and Mike Evans. That's going at plus 1453. You put $10 down and you win 145.36. Of course, all the game lines are available on Fandall. You can bet player props on every single game available. And it's a lot of fun to bet. And of course, when we get to the Fandall portion of the game predictions, I will be giving some bets that I like in this game. Down the line that towards the end of the episode when I pick the winner of this game as well.

15:25But let's get to some key matchups. And I did an episode where I talked about a lot of these key matchups in more depth. So if you want to hear those, go check that out. That came out on Friday. But for the 49ers on offense, it starts with running the football with Christian McCaffrey and Kale on black. And this is going to be one of the key factors for the 49ers almost every week is establishing a run game. And last year this 49ers offense was good, but it wasn't great because they couldn't establish a consistent running game. Well, last week against the Los Angeles Rams, they proved they can be a good running football team again. It was 49ers S, over 170 yards on the ground, a 5.9 yard per carry average going between Kale on black and Christian McCaffrey and Dibo Samuel. It was all hands on deck and they were executing at a high level. And it was everybody involved, the offensive line block well, the tight ends block well, the full back block well. So the 49ers are feeling confident. And this is an opportunity to run the ball against a defense in the dolphins.

16:27They gave up 130 yards on the ground last week. The Las Vegas, a similar system that could be at employees in Vegas. So the 49ers want to get a run game going, get some movement up front and really started taking advantage of this dolphins defense. Because once that linebacker core has to engage in stopping the run, it's going to open things up over the middle of the field for Dibo Samuel. It's going to get them to creep a safety into the box and you can take some shots down the field to Mike Evans and Demarcus Robinson and Jacob Cowling, who I do think will have some opportunities in this game to run a few verticals, maybe even a screen pass here or there. So the 49ers want that run game to go because then it starts setting up that play action passing game. And that's one of the matchups I love is the 49ers wide receivers versus young cornerback room for the Miami dolphins. Last week we saw the top three wide receivers. I mean, minus dribbling, because tribbling got hurt. The other three wide receivers towards the top of this depth chart have really big plays, including touchdowns, Dibo, Mike Evans and Demarcus Robinson.

17:33All were executing at a high level. And I think that that's going to happen again this week. I think when you look at the matchups between the cornerbacks, they're not big names and they're still learning their way around in NFL field. And so I look at the 49ers and I think that this is an opportunity for the wide receivers to take advantage of a Miami dolphins defensive backroom that needs a lot of growth. So that's going to be one of the things that starts with that run game, getting it going, creating some play action. And then these wide receivers winning out on the outside. I also like Christian McCaffrey versus the linebacker core of the Miami dolphins Jordan Brooks, Willie Gay, Jacob Rodriguez. I like him in the passing passing game last week you watch action, Gen. T. And he was finding good matchups against those linebackers and Kubiak was kind of scheming it up. So he could get someone on one route and those are deadly for a linebacker room. That's not really known to cover that well. And this is a thing where Jordan Brooks is when it gets the 49ers a few times.

18:35And they will isolate him and get him in a situation to take advantage. So I expect the same thing Christian McCaffrey getting some of those matchups, especially in the red zone where you've got to worry about Mike Evans. Are you going to single up Mike Evans out on the outside? Okay, we see now that work last time fade pass touchdown. Are you going to put somebody out so they can run the football. It starts creating some mismatches when you don't have enough players inside the box. Then the four years can run the ball effectively. So Mike Evans is going to be key for this 49th red zone offense. And I think a lot of it too is McCaffrey getting those one on one matchups, especially a short yardage, third down conversions. And in the red zone, I think it's going to be extremely good. Then when you get in the red zone, you got to score touchdowns. And the Miami dolphins, they give up touchdowns inside the red zone. Last week against the Raiders, they give up touchdowns on 75% of the red zone opportunities. That is not great football. The 49ers on the other hand were scoring touchdowns last week at a 66% rate against the Rams defense.

19:38So this looks like a juggernaut red zone offense in the 49ers against a struggling. Dolphins defense inside the red zone. So I think this is one of those situations where if you get in the red zone, you almost expect the 49ers to score touchdowns. And I have said before, I think the 49ers again in this season, over 70% conversion rate on touchdowns inside the red zone. And I think it takes a huge step forward this week against the dolphins. I think that they're going to score, you know, at least three out of four times that they're in the red zone. And they might be in the red zone more than that. So getting those touchdowns is going to be important, especially with Eddie Pinierre, the question marks about him. We'll see what happens. Winning on third down 49ers, one of the best red zone offense is one of the best third down offenses last week. They were 58% conversion rate on third down last season. They were number one in the NFL at 49.8. They've kind of kept that going this season. And you look at the dolphins. This is one area where Jeff Halfley's group was good last week against the Raiders. They held teams to 38% inversion rate on third down. So this is one where you've got a little bit of a strength versus

I would say the dolphins were the best third down defense, but the fact that they held it under 40% for this young group is very nice and the 49ers need to make sure they get into third and manageable stay ahead of the sticks. Third and two, third and three, third and four, three, a third and four, those are good situations for the 49ers. Third and six plus those are not good for this football team. So, but winning on third down is going to be extremely important for the 49ers in this game and making sure that they can get things done and execute at a high level. And so I'm I'm super excited about the 49ers opportunities on offense to make some things happen. And then on the defensive side of the ball. There's some interesting matchups, but what are the key factors is going to be slowing down the dolphins run game and their read option.

23:58You look at Malik Willis his ability to use his legs, you look at Devon A changing the fact that he can read any defenses perimeter that speed that whole shot ability is something that you always have to watch. So you got to make sure you're keeping outside contain. And if there's one area of the 40 and have struggled with historically over the last several years, but also you just look at what happened last week there were a couple of times, the honor of the Nordic got sucked in there were other players who are these edge defenders that needed to step up and really set an edge at firm edge against the opposing team. They weren't able to do it. And so I think that that's going to be one of the keys is the 49ers got to slow down the running ability of Malik Willis. They've got to slow down Devon A changing and not let him get going now the Raiders did a very good job last week doing that. They held the Miami dolphins run rushing attack to just 79 yards on the ground. And so that's a situation the 49ers want to be in the problem is the 49ers defense last week gave up 122 yards on the ground.

24:58So this is something they've got to get better and I do think that when you look at the Miami dolphins interior offensive line. They have the guys inside to get movement up front. You've got guys who can make some plays on the inside when you look at proctor at left guard. I mean this dude he's a monster. And so I look at him and I see a player in Caden proctor that can get some movement up front. So the 4 years going to have to rely on lateral quickness kind of try to beat him at the point of attack not allow these double teams that can get a good push because I think that's going to be part of the game plan. Yes, they want to get on the outside. But I think they want to go behind Caden proctor and they want to go behind the right guard Jonas of Aja as well. These two guys get movement up front. That's going to be something to watch. Can the 49ers defensive tackles hold up better than they did against the Rams and prevent a chain from getting opportunities to get to the second and third level because if he gets to the third level of the defense. He's got enough speed that if he makes you miss or you take a bad angle as a safety. Jeyer brown marquee seagull. It's a whole shot and it's a touchdown.

26:01So that's going to be something to watch this week is how those defensive tackles kind of hold up in the run game. So they're going to threaten you on the edge making those edge defender stay home to prepare for Malik Willis. They're going to threaten you on the edge with the speed of Devon a chain and then they're going to get those young big offensive lineman up front moving and try to get some movement up front to so I do think they're going to try to rely on the run game a lot in this in this one. When you're rushing Malik Willis this week you have to make sure you're staying in your rush lanes last week against Matthew Stafford you didn't have to worry about rush lanes. Matthew Stafford doesn't take off and run Matthew Stafford might move in the pocket. He might you know slightly move left slightly move right maybe it's you know get out to the to the outside. But he's not looking to run and he can't break your back by running the football. Malik Willis can he can literally run every single time if you give him the opportunity to do so. So I expect the 49ers plan to rush him to be a little bit more conservative. I also expect for them to make sure they stay in their rush lanes every single time.

27:05So I'm not telling you that they're not going to rush hard. They're not going to run fast rush fast. But they do want to make sure they don't get too far at field as edge defenders to create lanes for him to be able to run and as interior guys is more important to stay in your lane. Then to get a faster pass rush on Malik Willis which means yes the secondary is going to have to do a little bit more so that's going to be important also bringing more than four guys. I think is on the docket for where he more is because if you bring a fifth guy they can help account for a pass rush lane and get after Malik Willis as well. So expect to see blitzes go up 19% of the time the 49ers blitz last week expect that to go up you know 28 to 33% I think would be a realistic possibility for this football game because it has a couple things. Number one you have the extra body and the extra lane to get covered so Malik Willis can't run. But also it speeds up in his internal clock and makes him get rid of the football a little bit earlier than he wants and he just doesn't process things as well as like a guy like Matthew Stafford so that's something I look for him to do and then Nick Bosa verse everybody and I think that they need to move Nick Bosa all around the 49ers defensive front and get some matchups against Kate and proctor the rookie where he can rely on his speed against proctor or against you know Jonas of Aki Nia and use some moves I like him playing on the inside this week.

28:24I think that those are going to be very important I also like him over the right tackle Austin Jackson which I think is a really good matchup or Nick Bosa as well so those are going to be some things to watch the movement of Nick Bosa is Nick Bosa verse everyone where can we Russian from everywhere. Get him out there and let him make some plays out there and then win on third down so you got to make sure you get the dolphins off the field they were really bad last week against the Raiders only converted on third down at 20% and so that wasn't good 49ers. They're really good job on third down as well as a defense so this is going to be something they have to do then you have to continue to get takeaways last week the 49ers force to and they keep that up the dolphins were willing to give it away to the Raiders last week they turn the ball over twice. That's going to be some interesting stuff in this football game you know to see how they do it in the 49ers defense they held they held the Rams to just 22% on third down effectiveness so very important for this week for that. To happen for you get turnovers get off the field on third down make a lot of things and we're going to be going to the wild that's bold predictions.

29:32Wow that's really bold. I think that there's going to be an opportunity in the red zone we talked about Mike Evans we talked about Christian McCaffrey in that matchup and when you're focused on George kit or when you're focused on Mike Evans in your focus on Christian McCaffrey the run game the passing attack with the fade pattern and you start looking at the red zone. And you start looking at the bow moving all around the formation maybe you don't pay as much attention to George Kittles and I do think that he's going to have some success in this game and I think it's going to lead to a touchdown and any time touchdown for George Kittles with fandal going at plus 190 and then I got Christian McCaffrey having the big game.
