When two items in a row feel like filler, you can use that moment as a cue to pause. This short exercise helps you name what you wanted from your phone, set it down for one minute, and decide whether to return or do something that fits the need better.

You don't have to give up your phone or make every break productive. The aim is one deliberate choice, while keeping the phone close when work, family, or safety requires it.

Today's extra is a small exercise for the moment when scrolling feels more automatic than enjoyable. Start by naming what you wanted when you opened the phone. Just a few words will do. I wanted to answer a message. I wanted a laugh. I wanted a break. Now choose a cue you can actually notice. Try this one. When two items in a row feel like filler, stop your thumb. Turn the phone face down or put it just out of reach for one minute. You don't need to set a timer unless it helps. During that minute ask, is this still giving me what I came for? If it is, you can pick it back up on purpose. If it isn't, choose one next thing that fits the need better. Drink some water. Send the reply you meant to send. Sit quietly. Talk to somebody nearby. There is no required replacement activity. The two item cue is a practical suggestion, not a proven rule. A specific when and then plan may help you notice a choice,

but it won't make every session easy to end. If you need the phone close for work, your family or safety, keep it close. What matters today is one deliberate stop. You can use your phone again whenever you choose. The win is noticing when a break has run its course. That does it for today's episode of 7 Good Minutes. Until next time, let's be civil to one another out there. You spent all week digesting injury reports and power rankings. You used your morning to watch personalities debate on talk shows.
