About this episode
The Buffalo Bills opened their season with a huge 36-31 road victory over the Houston Texans, and Patrick Moran went back through the All-22 film to see what stood out beyond the box score.
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick shares his biggest post-film takeaways from the win, including an impressive offensive adjustment from Joe Brady, a dominant performance from Deone Walker, a drastically different approach to the defensive line rotation and one Bills veteran emerging as an unsung hero.
Patrick discusses Buffalo's heavy use of 13 personnel, with three tight ends on the field for more than a third of the offensive snaps. After Houston's pass rush caused major problems for Buffalo previously, Joe Brady came back with a much different plan designed to give Josh Allen additional protection while keeping the Texans defense guessing.
On defense, Deone Walker looked every bit like a potential emerging star, while Greg Rousseau, Ed Oliver and Bradley Chubb were among the defensive linemen receiving significantly larger snap shares. Patrick explains why the old defensive-line rotation may be a thing of the past.
Also discussed is Spencer Brown's outstanding work against Danielle Hunter, concerns with Buffalo's dime defense and Damar Hamlin's role, Christian Benford and Dee Alford's struggles, quiet debuts from several Bills rookies and encouraging performances from Terrel Bernard and Maxwell Hairston.
Plus, why Josh Palmer's box score doesn't come close to telling the story of his debut, James Cook's recent fumbling trend bears watching, and how a couple of fortunate breaks helped Buffalo escape Houston with a massive road victory.
Key Takeaways
- Joe Brady's heavy use of three-tight-end personnel was one of Buffalo's biggest tactical adjustments against Houston's dangerous pass rush.
- Deone Walker's combination of power, disruption and increased playing time strengthened the case that he's developing into a potential star.
- Buffalo leaned much more heavily on its top defensive linemen instead of constantly rotating players, with Rousseau, Oliver and Chubb all receiving substantial workloads.
- Spencer Brown deserves significant credit for helping neutralize Danielle Hunter and Houston's edge pressure.
- Buffalo's secondary and dime package produced some concerns, but there were also encouraging signs from Bernard and Hairston.

Talking Buffalo — Bills Post-Film Takeaways: Stars, Surprises & Concerns. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Spent a solid chunk of hours on Monday morning going over the all 22 film from the Buffalo Bill's beginning their season with a huge win on the road exercising their demons in Houston defeating the Texas 36 the 31 got plenty of takeaways here from that film and just other general nuggets after rewatching the game again here today on talking Buffalo your weekday daily driver for Buffalo sports talk and more my name is Patrick Moran thank you so much as always for watching
for listening however you are taking in talking Buffalo I appreciate you guys very much a strong audience on yesterday's show both on the live instant reaction video and especially on the audio podcast site so I can't thank you guys enough for that also thank you to our sponsor to law off it's a William and Tar herded a car call William and Tar 4444444 call William and Tar today to get the compensation that you deserve during the regular season especially when the bills play on a Sunday not as much as the game I'm not gonna go that far but one of my favorite things to do is wake up bright and early the next morning on Monday morning which I don't love getting up that early typically but if there's something that could wake me up and give me energized to get the day going that's being able to have access and watch the all 22 film after a Buffalo Bill's
game winner lose but especially obviously when they win it's one of my favorite things to do I look for some general takeaways and maybe not so much X's and O's and Routres and all these other educational things that you can get for watching people like Anthony Borhaska cover a one or Joe Moreno from Lockdown bills and handful of others I'd like to go back and look at like some of the biggest plays of the game like the little details that go into what made you know a big play happen I like to go back and reevaluate my real-time opinions from the game quite often I'll see that I thought a player played you know out of his mind good or poorly and then you go back objectively after a nice rest and watch that taping you learn that you know what I was wrong that guy was much better than I thought he was originally or conversely he wasn't as good as I thought he was
sometimes it confirms what you think and maybe not everyone who watched the game with you or you know that as opinions on the game think along the same lines so I get a lot of value for myself personally out of going back spending time and watching the all 22 I got a pretty solid handful of takeaways to share with you today I'm not going to sit here and tell you that any of these are you know like oh my god I can't believe that like earth shattering takes on the show but just some things that are surely on my mind it's by the way before we get into some bills from real quick pretty big news coming out of saber land here on Monday surely before I start recording this podcast on Monday afternoon for a Tuesday podcast drop young sabers forward Noah Osslin eight years eight years six point six million per year the sabers have locked him up
already that was not the news I was expecting to hear from the Buffalo sabers and to be clear that is absolutely not a complaint I'm just very surprised this is a role the dice right now for the Buffalo sabers although I feel like those dice may be loaded in their favor whenever you sign a young player who has showed a lot of promise he's developed well but you know he hasn't done that much in the NHL and you're giving him an eight year contract at six point six million and needs to be explained that unlike football and hockey when you sign a due to an eight year contract you're paying that due for eight years he's counting on your books for eight years sort of you buying them up but even then it still costs money it's not like football where contracts really don't matter it's just the signing bonus and what they get up front
you can get out of contracts pretty easily and football you do every year not the same in hockey so that's a little bit of a gamble if for some reason Osslin doesn't develop things happen bad injury locking all these types of things that could be not a good deal for the sabers but my money's on that being a great deal for the Buffalo sabers and you look at the way the salary cap is rising I think Taj Thompson has one of the very best contracts in the NHL because of when they signed them the term and what is value what he became or what his value is right now six point six million dollars sounds like a lot of money not really though this contract hypothetically if he becomes a solid middle six guy a top nine guy six point six million for a young player like that who's gonna hopefully ascend for years and years to come that contract is gonna feel like peanuts
so a surprising and pretty big deal for the Buffalo sabers here on Monday I'll talk about that on Wednesday night more in depth and we will actually have on Wednesday night live for our Thursday morning podcast a Chadd to Ministers is gonna be with me live 9 p.m. on the video side here on YouTube and Twitter and Facebook on Wednesday night we're gonna have ourselves a a Buffalo sabers training camp preview episode was by the way Wednesday night Thursday podcast sex is gonna be episode 1400 here of talking Buffalo so we'll get into that stuff with Chad here on the Wednesday video Thursday podcast as for the bills let's get a few things that I just want to gloss over real quick out of the way so that we can get to other stuff because look I'm telling you nothing you don't already know right Josh Allen Greg Rizzo were like out of their minds good
but you already know that and I want to get to other things today besides the low-ing in fruit the obvious here Josh Allen played like somebody who's the best player of football he played like somebody who's a former MVP and looking to be this year's MVP and the fact that he did it in that environment against that defense in Houston to me is even just more amazing I certainly expected the bills have a a good opportunity to win this game I'm gonna be honest with you because I always try to be at least I picked Houston to win the game on Friday and I said if the bills do win the game you know it's gonna be one of those the defense just completely stymies CJ shroud the bills find a way to you know a couple turnovers convert them to some points and maybe you get out of there with like a 23 to 17 23 20 type win over Houston oh no that was a shootout man I thought I was watching
Dan Fouts in the San Diego Chargers of the 80s and shit just wild that was like a Chargers Miami old school football game 30 40 years ago man fun is out of watch just didn't expect it well yeah look Josh Allen was awesome Greg Resole was awesome I think that was his best game of his career certainly the most impactful because they might lose the game if Greg Resole doesn't make that play that's how big his trip sack was at the end of the game and I also say this too I was early in the game but Greg Resole's strip fact strip sack fumble and the first series of the game is pretty big too because the bills went forward out four down they get stopped hey man Houston takes that ball they go right down and score like oh man it's could be another one of those days like it usually is when you go to Houston but Resole makes a big play fumble and they get Oliver fell in the ball he did and the bills at least got three out of that so it was like they scored three on
the first drive essentially right so I thought that was a big play as well but anyway two sacks two force fumbles I think he has pn next year and stats credit him with six pressures just an an incredible game for him we could talk this entire episode about all the shit that Josh Allen and Greg Resole did but we're not going to dinner with Dalton Cade dude's healthy that's the whole thing the whole thing he's healthy and if he stays healthy he is primed for a monster year what we saw on sunday is what we have hoped for as a bills community fans since tracking him he is absolutely positively a match up nightmare and it wasn't just like this dude was clowning like backers he beat and well jump all down the field stingly maybe one of the top two or three
quarters that maybe he is one of the top two or three quarters in the NFL he beat last it around around by the way it just was a Houston podcast one a nightmare for that dude great player of a man a nightmare day for for last year out there anyway Dalton Cade was sensational and we saw coming this summer if you paid attention at the dude stays healthy he's going to produce played 38% of the snaps last year play what 70 something percent in this game I think this was I don't have an in front of me but this was like it's third or fourth highest snaps year percentage of his career he was out there for running plays it was just great to see again we could spend a lot of time talking about him but I want to get to other stuff and then DJ Moore on a nice to debut he's a real deal he is the real deal he will be a huge asset to this offense this year Josel and said after the game on the game winner to Josh Palmer that the play was designed to go to
DJ Moore and he noticed DB's cheating towards him you're going to see that a lot because DJ Moore's the number one receiver and he draws attention so beyond the box score you're going to see him open up opportunities for a Josh Palmer or Keon Coleman or a Khalil Shakir or Kink A nox you name it doesn't matter you get my point we can talk about those guys forever but again I want to get to other stuff here and where I actually want to start watching it back I knew that the bills played three tight ends kind of noticeable decent amount I didn't realize how much they did know in this game I think back to last year specifically Josh Allen was like on an island most of the game I thought it was a terribly constructed game plan for the bills last year often just five man protections which is football suicide when you got Will Anderson Jr
and Danielle Hunter on those edges it's just a bad decision and that's on Joe Brady well Joe Brady learned from last year so let's give him some credit for that because it it wasn't last year just like a factor the one I won blocking it played a huge role in why Josh Allen got sacked eight times the bills had very little success on early downs they were constantly in second and third along choosing got to pin their ears back to that the Josh Allen you said and more receivers out less blockers it was just a formula for disaster and that's what it was and that's what it's been for the most part of the bills and played in Houston well that was in the case this game on Sunday Joe Brady was not making that mistake again the bills dressed four tight ends which in hindsight should have been a pretty big clue and they played a ton at least
the first three not two also got four snaps in this game. Christopher Pazzo from Buffalo Rumblings pointed out the stat fascinating to me the bills played 13 personnel which means three tight ends on the field at the same time 36.8% of the snaps that is more than a third of their snaps the bills had three tight ends on the field in my opinion that is a brilliant game plan for the Buffalo bills especially against that team whether it was chipping edgersters just straight up staying back to block again something they barely did last year they're keeping the Houston Texas guessing which I think they did because they at least had some success especially early running the football she was on their toes defensively and you don't see that very often at all
like I think maybe they're at least a little surprised at what the bills do at them which kind of goes back to last week when we were doing our preview I said this to him and pet myself on the back here for a second I said if you got to play the Houston Vaughty at Houston defense and make no mistake about it all right they might have played like garbage on Sunday but that is still an incredibly good NFL defense all right but I said the advantage if you got to play Houston play them right away because they won't have the benefit of watching the bills trends like if the if this was week six or seven the bills are going to not play three tight ends for the first five weeks just so they can save it all against Houston right like you start to pick up the trends the things that other teams do when you get to watch weeks worth the game film but the fact that this was week one with a relatively new offense Joe Brady was here before but now he's had coach and doing things exactly the way he wants p car michael surley has at
least some influence on what the bills are doing I'm sure and Houston didn't have a chance to to prepare much at a time and it looked like it it looked like it and to the bills of advantage look their tight ends are good been saying it for a long time Matt Warren and I every Wednesday including this week starting up with this game we go through this team positionally after every game evaluate and assign a grade and last year the bills tied that room consistently was amongst the highest graded if not the highest graded on this football team cancage a weapon Dawson nox is better than you think Jackson Hawes can do some damage nox and Hawes are at least good enough that you have to account for them on the field as pass catchers they're not just run blockers it's not six offensive jumble packages and trying to smash the ball down your throat the bills can run or more importantly make it just as easily throw out of
these formations so I thought it was a great game plan and I definitely thought it kept Houston off balance and again it works because you had tight ends who could catch the ball now I wonder what that number is going to look like week to week last season the Rams did it the most in the NFL right amount 30 percent the bills did at 36.8 this game they might obliterate what the Rams did leading the NFL last year and it certainly makes sense now it might not have it might have felt a little weird maybe when the bills made the roster cuts and they cut Ben Sumeran and had no fullback but now now you could clearly see why the bills kept for tight ends and no fullback which by the way you're wondering about the tush push because the bills did score on one it was Dawson Knox who was the the tush pusher on that play so anyway I thought an incredibly smart
game plan by Joe Brady people cover Michael and the bills office all right let's take a quick break come back actually want to get into something that really stood out on the defensive side of the ball and plenty more takeaways right after this quick break all right back here more talking buffalo presented by William attire look man I got you got a lot of energy today a little bit of a a pep in my step um not gonna lie I'm excited about this start to the Buffalo bill season when you can go on the road and beat a very good football team a team that most people especially outside a buffalo and plenty and buffalo picked you soon including me um it's just it's a great way to start the season I'm sure plenty of you are listening or watching right now hopefully you feel
the exact same way a lot of energy going on here uh it's a fan of the Buffalo bills I want to talk about the rotation up front and without being disrespectful no you know ill will intended towards Shawn McDermott because he did plenty of good things but we're not gonna talk about Shawn McDermott today but anyway as Joe from Queens like to label it the bills defensive line of doom like that eight man rotation where everybody plays almost equally like 40 to 55% of the staps are so that's dead at least for now that is dead because you look at the snapouts from this game and wow at Oliver 82.3% of the staps he played on Sunday that's the fourth high of his career that's the most he's played in a game since the 2024 um regular season finale
in Miami where the bills had to win that game to win the AFC East and ultimately get the number 2C was they did 82.3% Greg Rizzo 79.5% of the staps second most of his entire career and I mean he's been on this team now since 2020 it's pretty wild dm walker and we're gonna talk about him specifically here and literally about a minute or so 64.6% of the staps second most of his young career and here's the thing that really tells you what a rotation the bills had versus maybe some other teams so Oliver the fourth highest of his career grew the second highest of his career down walker to second highest of his young career. Bradley Chubb also played 79.5% of the staps the exact same snap share that Greg Rizzo played but here's the thing that was only the 30 second most of his
career I actually went and looked it up same snap out as Greg Rizzo for group second eye emphasis career and Groot's been by far the bills best defensive edge guide now for the last four or five years right well Bradley Chubb who's had two major injuries 79.5% exact same but it's only the 30 second most of his career so for now now I did hear Jim Leonard on Monday speaking in the media say that his guys played too much and that's gonna change I believe him to an extent but still Greg Rizzo Bradley Chubb at Oliver I'll bet money if they could stay healthy they're gonna be playing minimum 65 70% of the staps I think that's gonna be something that you see all season long and again a big difference from what you saw with the bills defensive line and how they were deployed when Charmagherment was the head coach I want to talk about DL Walker
because the dude was just dominant in this football game dominant a dominant debut for the second year defense attackal obviously one of the biggest plays of the game came in the final drive of the game wait in that drive to where it looked like Houston was going to find a way to score at the very end the final minute and win this game first and goal and DL Walker has just his will his resolve to make a play just unbelievable gets a sack such a big plan the game that's actually I see down the cake too of what I thought was a phenomenal game even looked even better on film six tops in this game 22 run snaps six tops one highlight real play where and I do have on my socials at Patrick Moran TV a couple videos up of some of these plays I'm gonna throw it up here on the screen if you could
see over right now but just watch us do throw two guys that one but two guys off of him take the running back by Garmory and just slam onto the ground for for a loss just incredible man just incredible six stops and all of them were for like three yards gained or less played 47 snaps which again 64.4% of the snaps this dude is just he has got star potential running all over him he flash last year and coming in the year two here it's about consistency putting together not just splash plays but consistent drive at the drive and ultimately game at the game type of play like we saw on Sunday and I truly truly believe that he's gonna do that as long as he can stay clean as they healthy he is going to be a force to be record with just keep him with that clean bill of
health that back so far so good right and John is giving me a star and he's going to be very very very rich at this rate in about a year and a half or so if he looks anything like he did this that has become a premium position he is a premium player and on a team that has a lot of good to really good players but few like quote unquote stars I absolutely think yeah Walker is gonna be a star my unsung hero of the game after watching it back didn't air much of him and that's a good thing in this case but I'm going with Spencer Brown that's my pick guys did you know that Daniel Hunter who's one of the better edge rushers in the NFL played Sunday for Houston makes seriously match up by 100 why I want for a lot of the game too Hunter had just one quarterback pressure in this game on 25 past rush attempts he was to me a
shocking non-factor in this I really am and Spencer Brown is living proof that pf f grades often suck and their numbers are full of shit because he had a 49.3 pass block grade which was the second worst on the bills in this game like what are you watching what are you talking about 59.6 one block grade not really that good either I just I don't get him and this dude was a very positive factor in both the running game and the past game past protection the vaunted Texans edge rushers were not nearly the factor of this year as they were last year and Spencer Brown to me deserves a a crap load of credit for that there's a few things from this game that looks bad but I'm just even though I
am an overreactor generally speaking I'm just I'm not going to overreact here two DBs specifically had really bad maybe really bad is a bit of an exaggeration but forgettable days let's put it that way Christian Bedford I mean Nico Collins especially early in the game to Bedford's credit he did a much better job in the second half including having a nice past defended on Collins but Collins had his way with them you know early part of the game first half especially beat him on a was 38 got him for a 25 their game which led to a use of touchdown so not a not a great day for Bedford but again I'm not going to overreact for two reasons number one Nico Collins is one of the best you know amongst he's in the discussion amongst the best receivers in the NFL without question so he's going to beat a lot of good corners that's just the way it is you're not going to
shut a Nico Collins down very often right so I'm about to worried about that plus I mean maybe Bedford's just a little bit of a slow starter kind of saw it last year early in the year you were well some of what Christian Bedford then he kind of just turned it up and it was great I'm expecting nothing less from him this season as well so my overall worry meter with Christian Bedford is things stand right now is approximately zero D. Alfred also had a really bad game I I thought in real time and also watching back on the tape those want to play out across your route I don't know what the hell happened there but Hutchinson who's a decent receiver by me but the student CD lamb he somehow beat offered by like a lot of yards of separation something ridiculous um offered at a miscommunication with Max
Irson near the end of the game in that last shot but I'm not sure whose fault that was I don't want point of finger at someone when I don't know but anyway D. Alfred had a fantastic summer he really did I thought he was a standout and a lot of people thought that as well strong preseason when he played very little but uh this was not a objectively speaking this was not a good debut for D. Alfred I'm not going to go quite as low I'm I worry meter with him and say that it's a zero like it is with Bedford just because I've seen Bedford play so much but I'm also not going to say well this is a potential huge problem for the Buffalo Bills the Nickelback based on one game they'll get better the secondary is a hole I think we'll get better the secondary is a hole was the eye sore of this game for the Bills without question but again both safeties missed plenty of time
the summer uh Max Irson hurt the summer so you know you you don't have all them out there at the same time communicating getting used to each other I believe Jim Lenter when he says it wasn't good but they're closer than it looked like I believe in there so anyway Bedford a bad game for the most part offered a bad game but I'm not really concerned about either them I'm not going to overreact to that one thing though and it only took one game and I don't think this is an overreaction something has to change quickly with that Bills dime defense because you just cannot have Demar Hamlin in that dime package or any package really I mean it's not science he cannot get to spots on the field watch the film man he cannot get to spots on the field quick enough it's just not fast enough he's not athletic enough one of those his mind works better than the body
type of football players multiple incidents on this game film that support that there's one play Jalen Noel caught a pass out a crossing route and Demar Hamlin's like the safety coming up in a dime look and he recognizes it but he's late getting to where he needs to be just not quick to get to the point of attack where he has a chance to make a tackle instead somebody gets their a block on him and I have a big one but enough and Noel just blows past him and what should have been a eight to ten yard Dan at most turns into a 35 yard play it's frustrating then there's literally another play and this is kind of embarrassing and I don't know that this is more on hamlin or honestly it's probably more on Jim Leonard I mean if we're being completely honest but he blitzes and I'm gonna put it up on if you're watching this on YouTube
on the video side I'll play it a few times he's blitzing from literally ten yards off the line of scrimmage it's wild it is completely wild he is so far back is not athletic enough he's got no chance what is the expectation on that play like what he marks the linebacker he doesn't even see him in a less like he's almost on the outside he's like oh I better go black this guy and then bam plants him right up right on his butt just bad he also got called for a defensive hold in this game it just it has to change that has to change that's gonna be a problem and Jordan Hancock missed time with an injury he was back practicing on there he was active for this game but he missed time he missed over a week kill where miss time and was healthy scratch because it's a numbers game right now with him the injuries and things like that wait getting back to practice bolted him Hancock kill gore boy I sure hope that's the reason why Hancock wasn't
the guy out there this week in that nine defense that he just didn't have the practice time there just has to be a better option there has to be a better option and has to be Hancock or it has to be kill gore going forward you need athleticism out there and that's just number three he's just not gonna give you that he's just not and you go through an offseason where you could change defensive coordinators you change your complete scheme you sign multiple free agent safeties you draft jaylon kill gore you got an emerging Jordan Hancock you get to week one and you're dying package to my family gets the call man I I hope that changes and changes quickly because my impression was one of Brandon means biggest priorities this offseason was not having a situation where you're relying on a kaiorim or gain Jackson or a demar hamlin to make a play now is he an NFL
washable player yes yes certain situations you could do worse than him but this wasn't an injury again unless he just thought Hancock was already because he missed time I mean this do started he was a dying package player he wasn't out there because player x was the dying guy and then he got hurt in the game and then you all we got to go to tomorrow no he was option one for this game at least I hope he's not option two for Detroit on Thursday night unless you this real quick take one more quick break actually come back and I'll we'll finish up with a few other things apologize here a little bit if you're watching this on the video so I'm kind of all over to play some trying to go back to stream yard as a podcasting platform because I had some issues with the other one but it's like I'm just not used to it anyway let's finish up with a few things
it was a very quiet debut for for the rookies a trio Buffalo bills rookies in this game and that's okay it's not a complaint I'm just pointing it out TJ Parker 14 snaps not a lot you did have one quarterback curry though it's a pretty nice play but only 14 snaps again no if you're going to say I want my best players out there more than when jolman Durham was a coach if you're going to say well I want Greg was though out there almost every play if he's not tired I want Bradley Chubb out there almost every play if he's not tired but you can't have a full ways you can't do that and you can't bitch about it and say well we're a two-jee parker you took him on the first big second row and you're going to play right in the bench and you're going to be mad about it well you can not if you want Groot and Bradley Chubb your best two edge guys out there right so patience with TJ Parker I think you had a slow start to camp I think he came on I think you had a
pretty good preseason you had a good joint practice against the Browns nice playing this game just be patient with with TJ Parker at this point let him develop he'll get his chances he'll get his chances my down on him not saying he's a bad pick just 14 snaps that's you're not going to get a lot of snaps when the guys are playing as much as they were uh IGB 11 snaps we were wondering if the bills might go to a rotation at some point early this season didn't know if it was going to happen week one and at some point it did which I thought was a little bit surprising by the way but IGB came into the game I was like well okay well literally literally the very first snap of his NFL career he gets called for defensive holding which is not ironic at all because coming into the league that was the book on him good player sticky
guy could be physical sometimes too sticky and too physical and too antsy because he gets called for holding a lot he did two years ago to Ohio State right well his first play gets penalty he made up for it though probably the nicest defensive secondary play of the entire game where he was on some way he came off deck to high and had a really nice pass break out I was like all right here we go that's cool no but later like not that series but like another series because he played two series in this game um booty beat him and that was it he came out after that play and went back to Max Harrison and that was it for uh for the game so he got a taste he had one really good play he got beat out another in the edit penalty and 11 steps for him in this game and then Caleb E. L. Arbsore eight steps in this game 30 again P. F. What's up with him P. F. F. Like I certainly don't think Caleb E. L. Arbsore had a
quarter go good game because they only played eight steps but I also didn't see anything like wow he looks like an ice or liability out there man no but anyway P. F. 30. 2 P. F. Great most on the team just how well I'll say this though if we're being true about Caleb E. L. Arbsore right now fantastic training again fantastic very quiet preseason though and I pointed it out pretty quiet in the preseason a quiet debut for him in this game as well. Kill Gore, Skyler Bell, Healthy Scratches, Jubowry as well. Those guys right again right now it's a numbers game they're just gonna have to wait their opportunity for injury or lack of performance which again going to Kill Gore I'd really like to see him at him is the bar hamlin that valuable on special teams if he's not going to be your third safety that you can't play Kill Gore on special teams and have him be a much more athletic option if push comes to shove I just don't see why not
but anyway a very quiet debut for the rookies I also want to point out I did last night on the show as well worth seeing again when it comes to Josh Palmer or Keon Coleman take the box score chuck it to the moon because it means literally jack shit Keon and Palmer one catch each but obviously in Josh Palmer's case it was just a quiet day for Keon it's okay for Josh Palmer one catch but it was a big play the game right big it's play the game often to leave for sure just who cares about the stats you can you could do the same when scather bell eventually plays as well you're setting yourself up for disappointment and to to shit on a player if you think Josh Palmer is gonna have five catches for 86 hours or he is gonna have six for 90 hours in a touchdown most weeks it's just not gonna happen man they're not going to have big cumulative statistical years DJ Moore Dalton concai Khalil Shakir those are your
weapons in the passing rain that's great they should be just if you're Josh Palmer you're Keon Coleman your scather bell when you get your chance do your job when your number is called that's it make a play when it's there to be made and Palmer did exactly that so for that alone I thought it was an excellent game for him uh let's finish up with a few nuggets to leave you all with very impressive I'll at least say that very promising season debut for Bill's linebacker Turell Bernard I think he's a good fit in this defense I really do and yeah the fumble recovery to to seal the game but honestly that really didn't matter because even if you sin fell on the ball there was no time outs the clock was gonna run out but still it was a nice little reward for Bernard to get credit it with a formal recovery because again I thought he had a pretty damn
good debut he was running around fast made a couple nice tackles aggressive near the line I really think that it wasn't coach speak were Jim letter the summer said I think Bernard will be able to play more free and I think he's gonna be better for that I agree it's not a reaction position for him anymore like it was with Sean over the last couple of years it's more attack and go go get somebody I thought he had a good game I really do I really do um Charles Max here since somebody who I've talked a lot about the summer and honestly a lot of it has not been good right based on what I saw the summer I did make a mistake near the end of the game I think it was him though again could have been D. Alford didn't look like it on the film but still impossible to know the assignments regardless I thought overall it was a pretty good game for Max here's then he he wasn't tested like literally wasn't tested and part of that is you could
easily say well you said didn't want to go to him they wanted to do this they wanted to go to Neal Collins at all costs and Benford just happened to be out I'm sure but watching and I did watch plenty of his coverages on on Max here's some did a good job like dudes weren't open part of the reason why he didn't get tested why the ball was thrown his way was because receivers from what I saw weren't getting open on him I just didn't see a bunch of dudes open against him on the tape and I guess you got to kind of learn take him for what his strengths are and not so much maybe his weaknesses he's not a great tackler he's never going to be that's not a strength right like did we evaluate Deon Sanders based on his tackling and no look on don't get that shit twisted I am not comparing Max here's the freaking Deon Sanders I'm seeing that style of play you evaluate Deon Sanders on his ability to lock down why receivers make plays on the football
be a highlight reel right not an his ability to come up and make a really solid open field tackle you want him to but that's not his game right kind of feels similarly about Max here's some so he's going to miss a couple tackles that's the price you're going to pay he's going to get out physical once in a while hopefully just once in a while it's the price you're going to pay but the dude could run and he could cover and if he has opportunities he'll make plays on the football anyway long-winded with that just saying I thought it was a pretty good game for him quite day for landing Jackson T.J. Sanders missed his game practice late in the week so that's promised I like I hope T.J. Sanders could get back Thursday I'd like to see what he could do in this defense not that amount of landing Jackson or anything just saying I was watching him a little bit on on the all-twenty-two and didn't really see much from him also found an interesting that the bills went to Frank or junior on a handful of like key passing downs over Ray Davis
I first of all I think for sure T.J. in spot is is when he comes back which could very well be as early as this Thursday so let's hope for that but I wonder what that says about Ray Davis there right like Frank or junior gets elevated and he's out there because you trust him the past block morning you trust Ray Davis I gotta assume that's what the reason is I don't know each running back only had one carry two besides cook special teams annoying and I wanted to go back and watch these again this is one of the reasons why I really like watching the film very annoying in real-time special team penalties first by Joe and Theresa and then by Sam Martin two special teams stalwarts like these guys are on the team because they excel in special teams right and watching it back both of them were absolutely the right call they absolutely were both penalties and Driesons wiped out good field position near the very end of the first half where maybe the bills
went ahead a chance to take a field goal so kind of costly potentially at least there and then Sam Martin's negated a nice little like a one and y'all returned by by dorks out of point so you add that up plus the penalty that penalty cost them about 20 some yards in in field position so overall special teams like their coverage or tackling was excellent blocky was fine but sloppy with penalties the sloppy with penalties period but to really see them back to back on special teams by your two most prominent special teams players that was that was annoying last thing I'd be remiss if I didn't say it there's such a thin line fine line sometimes between like winning and losing and quite often it just comes down to to lady luck right and the bills definitely had that lady luck on their side on Sunday because that James Cook fumble which listen that was his
seventh fumble now in his last 12 games couldn't playoffs that's not good that's not good that's borderline worrisome a little bit now off James Cook he's a he's a stud he's a star 20th best player in the NFL per the NFL 100 but that's an area of his game that is a little bit concerning right that said that play wasn't so much in being reckless that was stingly just making an incredible punch to the football team that was a great peanut punch a great play by a great player but still my point is this he follows he puts him on the ground and I could have been it it could have been it was there is torrents hustling up the field luckily he's there he falls on the football bills keep the ball to me scorted game go ahead game when he touched that right and then is incredible as Josh Allen was two plays before the game winner should have been picked right last would or drops what likely ends the game with I know the bills did still have three time outs so
supposedly never know but that likely ends the game right there so again such a thin line a couple plays between winning and losing and in this case bills got a little lucky and it's okay it's okay what it's the saying I'd rather be lucky than good well oh yeah oh yeah at last point I don't do it y'all 22 just a game itself as a fan watching it now if you're at the stadium covering a game whatever you can you get to listen in Ross talker dude whoo enjoyed that was one of the more enjoyable insightful broadcast I have actually dialed in and watched and listened to in quite a while Ross talker was excellent informative intuitive taking you inside the huddle a lot entertaining at times just describing what's going on in such good vivid detail I was thoroughly impressed with him and I know that because I thought it was
weird that they weren't the number you know that this game didn't have the number one team Minnesota Green Bay did I'm glad though I'm glad I like I love Jim Nance JJ what okay but give me all of the Ross Tucker EN Eagle combos this year's the number two CBS team that you could feed me because I have 100% therefore all right that is going to do it for this episode thank you so much please please please make sure you like this video um it to subscribe button I know that sounds redundant and I say it all the time but I do because it's really important it helps us grow on the algorithm it gets it out to more people it just allows an opportunity to do so many more things so please just take a quick second hit the like it to subscribe button even better even if you're watching this go to Spotify or Apple follow us audio podcast tremendous help uh to us so thank you
