The Buffalo Bills opened the season with a wild 36-31 road victory over the Houston Texans, and Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for a full instant-reaction breakdown.
The biggest story is Josh Allen, who delivered an MVP-caliber performance against one of the NFL’s most talented defenses. Allen threw for 334 yards, accounted for four touchdowns and repeatedly attacked Houston down the field. Patrick and Joe discuss why this was one of Allen’s most impressive regular-season performances and why Bills fans should appreciate just how special the Josh Allen era has become.
The guys also dive into a Buffalo passing attack that suddenly looks extremely dangerous. Dalton Kincaid exploded for 130 receiving yards, while DJ Moore reached 100 yards in his Bills debut and immediately showed how his ability to stretch the field can change the entire offense. Khalil Shakir and Josh Palmer also contributed to an attack that produced explosive plays rather than relying almost exclusively on short passes and “death by paper cuts.”
Defensively, the results were far more complicated. Greg Rousseau delivered two sacks and two forced fumbles, including the game-clinching play, while Deone Walker and Terrel Bernard also flashed. But Buffalo’s secondary struggled badly against C.J. Stroud and Houston’s passing game, creating plenty of concerns about Christian Benford, the CB2 rotation, the dime package and Damar Hamlin’s role.
Patrick and Joe debate how much patience the defense deserves under Jim Leonhard, whether the problems are personnel-related or simply part of adjusting to a new system, and how long the “work in progress” excuse should last. Despite the defensive concerns, both come away believing Buffalo's offense has the talent and versatility to potentially become one of the NFL's very best units.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Josh Allen was the difference-maker. Against an elite Houston defense, Allen produced one of his most impressive performances and showed exactly why Buffalo can beat anyone when he's playing at this level.
- Buffalo's passing game looks significantly more explosive. DJ Moore gives the Bills a legitimate vertical threat, Dalton Kincaid looked like a matchup nightmare, and Khalil Shakir appears ideally suited for his role.
- Greg Rousseau delivered when it mattered most. His two sacks and two forced fumbles provided the type of game-changing production Buffalo needs from its pass rush.
- The secondary is the biggest early concern. Houston consistently generated big plays through the air, leaving questions about Buffalo's cornerbacks, dime package and overall defensive cohesion.
- This Bills offense could be special. Buffalo showed it can win through James Cook and the running game or unleash Allen and a suddenly deep collection of receiving weapons. The versatility could make this offense extremely difficult to defend.

The Buffalo bills start the season out with a 3631 road victory over. The Houston Texans 3631 just like everybody thought.
Before this game, Josh Allen MVP daddy mode. And Houston 357 years from scrimmage for touchdowns. DJ more, Dalton, Kade both in a hundred yards receiving will talk about that. Greg, Brazil coming up huge two sex to force bumbles, including the game clincher. The bills at 296 yard touchdown drives in this game just wild as shit. We're going to talk about all that plenty more here. Joe from Queens with me as always for these bills. Library action recaps first one of the season man. And it was quite a doozy dude. What's up? Oh, you know, it's been one of those nights. Baby number two is not going down very well right now. So the misses is doing her best to try to situate that while I'm doing a podcast. So she might be burning around behind me or you might hear. All right.
And you know, all that sort of stuff. But is the is Luke baby Luke. Kind of disgusted with the bill secondary right now. Like a little. I mean, I'm a after like. I'm going to have to like good thing. I'm wearing headphones because I know when you talk about the Mar hamlin. I mean, I'm going to have to like, you know, like I said, good thing. By the way, full screen for a second. Shout out to me surgeons. Burr in Buffalo. They actually, I don't know if you know this, but they have a tap room now. In a terrible poor by me. They have a tap room now in Florida. That's that they opened up. You know what I heard? I did hear about that. Yeah. So like them and I think there's a couple of other breweries are doing that with the Buffalo. Anyway, this is a circle of the wagons. American Pillsner. So it's a Pillsner. Thank you. Yeah. You know, it's a little Bapapetter. And you know, I got my research. It's mug that I I forgot when I made a stole it from there when I was there like 10 years ago. So anyways, bombs up.
Definitely a terrible poor. Yes, I agree with the people in the chat anyway. Yeah, by the way, we're kind of getting cooked a little bit in the comments already for being late. By padded Joe standards, I really don't think anything in three minutes or under is not even considered late as far as I'm concerned. Right. By the way, when I'm on the full screen right now still, at least that's what I'm seeing right now. Oh, yeah, you are. Yeah, I don't think the people can't get enough of you. I'm just like, okay, you're like talking. I'm like, what am I going to make out with this bottle? Let me say this to run off the bat a little techie thing before we dive into today's show. I use a platform for podcasting called EV Mucks almost everyone else uses Streamyard. I'm really nervous right now. We're actually on Streamyard tonight. This is the first time in probably a year, maybe longer than I've done a podcast on Streamyard. I've had some issues lately with EV Mucks. If you're an everydayer on this show, you might notice I did a podcast last Friday with Christopher Paso.
It was great. However, the video never worked. It never downloaded. And I ended up having to use a static image of Chris on the screen on the video side the whole time. Thank God we were able to salvage the audio, but that's just sucked, man. So I'm not going to, I'm not going to harbor on that too much. But anyway, keeping my eyes on everything here on Streamyard. What the hell do you got in your hands right now? Oh, this is from store 716. It's a magnet because I don't know about you. But unlike, I have to, I'm a guy that needs a schedule in front of me. Okay. Like I need it to where I go to the fridge or I don't want to look at my phone from the schedule. I want to look at it and like, it's kind of like when you get a fantasy football team. And you're like staring at it for like a while when you first draft and you're like, it's a good, I need the schedule magnet. So I don't have a pen anywhere. So I'm using a crann to put in again, the results. So anyways, so what was the final score?
Do they help me out again? 36 to 31. Like I said, just like everybody predicted a wild shootout in Houston. The bills have been so good in Houston, especially on the off its side. And you know, Houston has been equally good against the bill's defense. So 77 points in this game. I think that was a lock that's barely even surprising. Right. The crann does not work really well on there, but it's good enough to create. There you go. Oh, nice girl. Thank you. It's sideways, but whatever. One last quick piece of a house keeping here. And then we're going to get into business with this game. I do want to welcome a sponsor to the show. This guard Joe from Queens, Hayter. He's an admitted Joe from Queens, Hayter. Regular on the show, by the way, Ranger corpse usually in the comments. But he is the owner of Ranger Services here in Buffalo. Dump search trailers, dump trucking demo, grading, snow removal, any trash, any job call Ranger. They'll take care of you. Follow him on Facebook at Ranger Services.
He actually came out to my crib last winter when we had about a gazillion feet of snow and took care of that. So he's a Joe from Queens, Hayter. Yeah. Hey, Ranger corpse aside from below me. It takes to the sponsor. You should subscribe to my website, Joe from Queens.com. And you could do a pledge of donation. It goes to charity, which is to me. And it's you. Yeah, to me. And I'll let you keep using that terrible freaking AI slop that you put up there. You're right. Anyways, he actually said I didn't do that. By the way, he actually sent that to me to put up on this green. It's amazing. It's actually why pretty far. Mike and send me some imperial pizza there too. What the fudge? People are like, how did you enjoy the game? No, I mean, we're going to get into the specifics and the particulars. We'll have a bunch of reaction, but the game itself. How did you, uh, did you watch? I know you tried doing a live blog. Oh, you're, your comments about the live blog might have been more entertaining than the live blog itself. What do you mean? Well, I did not, I'm never going to do a live blog again.
That's what I was talking about. Yeah, I'm never doing one again. I thought it would be a good idea to do one. It's very long. People go check it out. I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it was and it wasn't because I was like, oh, I got to add this detail. I got to add this detail. And I'm never doing it because I mean, people read it to be honest. And I think as you told me when you laughed at me, like people are on Twitter, people are on acts, whatever. They're, they're not looking at it's not, it's not 2010 anymore where you're looking at a cover live chat. So it's a mistake. I'm not doing that again, but I did post something afterwards about Josh Allen. But to go into details, I enjoyed the game today. Like I wasn't too nervous throughout it. I felt the bills were in control most of it. And you know, they were like a cop obviously they lost to lead a couple different times. But it was a fun game. And maybe part of it is like me thinking about the last couple of Texans games where it's like,
those were like pulling teeth, even though those were post games like this one, those games are not enjoyable from start to finish because the bills played so poorly, especially on offense. Where this was, this was a fun game. It was, it was, you know, for the first time in a, I mean, you know, another classic opener, you know, two years in a row, we've had classic openers, you know, the Baltimore game this year. That's right. Yeah, Ravens last year. Yeah, but I, I enjoyed it. I watched it. I had Luke here with me. The misses and another and our second Andy went to a birthday party at halftime. She's been a rock star today. So, you know, she's in the other room, like I said, that way, with. John Altmisses from Queens. Mrs. Joe from Queens, I guess. Yeah, it was fun. What about you? Well, how'd you do? You and you and your buddy, or your buddy, your son watching it together? Yeah, I did. Watch it. It was my son, his girlfriend and my daughter. My wife was chewing on a weekend trip and getting back until earlier this evening. But watch it with the rest of the family.
My son made ribs and chicken. It was, it was fun. I said I was not going to get. I told him before the game started. I feel like every with each passing season, because of this show and doing content, I feel like I'm getting maybe a little bit less removed from the fandom aspect of it. Like I just, I want talking points. I want things to be able to talk about and to be able to write about it. But that was just a bunch of bullshit because as the game went on, I started, you know, getting really emotional and getting in the way like a, like a fanatic does. And it was just, it was just crazy to me. I do agree with you. I don't think Houston was ever in control of the game. Perse, But it was just, um, it was certainly different than anybody thought the way the bills, the offense and what they were able to do today. Conversely, the defense and what they weren't able to do for a lot of the game. But before we get into specifics, you kind of look at the big picture here.
You don't want to get too overreactionary in the one game, but you can also say that this game mattered, even though it was just week one. This was to me an important game for two reasons. Number one, you lose this game. All the pressure in the world design you come Thursday night is short week when you're playing at home against Detroit because you don't want to start a season. Oh, and two. So losing what have made that more stressful this week and also look, Houston's going to be in the mix. Last year, that Ravens lost hurt the Baltimore Ravens in week one against the bills, right? And then I'm making a playoffs. You can circle back to that game. This might matter after 17 weeks. Sure. It might matter for the bills when in a division or getting asserted seed or if they finished high with Houston, the difference between going to Houston or potentially coming to Buffalo in the playoffs. So it might have just been week one, but I feel like it was plenty at stake. Do you agree with that? Yeah, it's felt like a lot of people said this before the game.
I think it was Bill Simmons that it was going to be an overreaction game for the loser because these two teams have so much pressure on them and it's a big game. And you know, you got two teams who have been in the playoffs, you know, the bills have been in the playoffs, like seven straight years, the Texans three straight years. But yeah, it's a big game between two of the teams that I think are in the top four or five in this conference. In a weird way, I think if you're like, you know how sometimes we do the talking blank, like whatever city the bills just play, we go, like this is talking Houston. Like if we were doing talking Houston right now, I feel like they would be kind of happy with the game because like the offense for the Texans looks good. That's a big deal. You can just say like, hey, it was a bad day at the office for them. Like they've Josh Allen finally had their number. They kicked his ass like bad day at the office. And that's a kind of a weird way where I agree with you. Overall, in totality, you could make that if I was really wanting to be nitpicky, I
could say the winner of this game, there's more questions than the loser of this game because it's because it will get to all the questions about because again, it was just like the Texans like you they got 30 that offense is sputtered the last two years. And here they are. They made changes, got the line better, etc. They put up 30 or whatever they put up in the bills. They do what they always do. So it's just kind of like an interesting like dynamic of the whole thing. I feel both teams should feel kind of good, even though the Texans lost. And if we were doing talking Houston, but not a great point and I couldn't agree with you more. Their offense showed life. I didn't have any respect for their offense. I'm like coming into this game and I did pick Houston. I will be openly in that. And I'll say that in my mind, if the bills got to 24 points, I was highly confident that the bills were going to win this game. If the bills would have got to 24 points today, they would have lost by a touchdown. So if you're Houston, sure, I think their offense looked better than you would think.
Defensively, I would be like to your point. It's just it was a shitty day. I still very much believe in their defense. I still do think I'm paper anyway. It's the most talented defense in the NFL, but they don't have Josh Allen, dude. And right off the bat, I liked playing Houston week one because I was like, let's just get it over with now. They can only go up from here. Sure. I don't know how much I can go off from here with with Josh Allen because let's start with him, dude. Above all else, he again, I said daddy mode. He was in daddy mode MVP, daddy mode in this game. Well, you ain't got a hold. I don't like it at all. You should have workshopped it with me, but you never do. You just you you talk to pod father or forget it. Bro Scott, I don't know whoever you just talked about. By the way, shout out to pod father. He's the man. That's all I got to say. Anyways, Heather and Joe. Yeah, I'm pan ball washing pod father. Okay. Josh Allen 20 at 29, 334 yards passing two touchdowns, a ramp for two touchdowns.
Including a 21 yarder, you pointed this out on social media and on your sub stack. 301 passing yards came after the first quarter. And only at 33 yards in the first quarter still finished with 334. Here's a fun fact. Eleven completions went for at least 11 air yards, which was tied for the most of his entire career. 286 yards and two touchdowns on air yard passes over 11 yards. That's just twice. Not perfect, but this was an abs. He looked like he was the best player on the field and a game where there's a ton of great players on the field. He was the best of the best. This is why a lot of people, including me, I think you as well, considering the best player in the NFL, the best quarterback in the NFL. He showed it. Talk about his performance, but I also one play. Look, look, look, it could be the difference between winning and losing so much. That last that should have been an interception to when he doing in the end zone towards Paul
Merr before the game winning touchdown or what became the game when he touched out. If that's an interception, if you're being objective, unbiased and fair, that's the same shit that Drake Meg did last week or Thursday night or Wednesday night in the opener for them. They had the field goal and that, I mean, a little bit more because make it inside the 20. It was a lock, but it was a terrible decision and a risk and an interception and they lost. Lasseter comes out with that play. The bills are probably losing that football game right there. That would have been all we would have talked about and that would have wiped out all the shit that he did great in this game, but it didn't happen. And he was again, the best player in MVP for sure. Yeah, I mean, he's a he's a gunslinger and that's what you get the good Josh Allen sometimes you get the bad, but you want the threats of Josh Allen. That's what makes him one of the best players like ever in Bill's history. Like I think he might be the best Bill's player I've ever seen. Like it's always we've talked about this. It's him who Smith, but like he was incredible today.
And look, I have no idea what's going to happen with the Texas this year. Like you never know what defense defense is kind of a fickle thing to watch where a defense can fall off the clip very easily. You've seen that in Buffalo. We've seen it from Rex Ryan when he got James Schwartz as we've seen this. So who knows what will happen, but if the Texas defense is the same, this you can tell me was the best Josh you can maybe make a case. This was the best Josh Allen game he's had in the regular season for his career. Yeah. Of who he's going against. What's on the line? The backlash or not backlash that the flashbacks. This is a great, great Texans defense and he shredded them, shredded them and DJ, you know, everyone he was you said it best. He was what you said he had 11 11 throw 11 completions at work for at least 11 yards in the air. That's the thing that I've been complaining about for the last two years on their Joe Brady
is there's no deep passing or no air yard. It's all these fucking bubble screens or short passes and through on today just to let them go. I know that I saw those I wasn't thrilled with those either. So she wanted to go live. I almost got picked, but yeah, that's what you want. And he's he's awesome. He's incredible. I can't even it's amazing how good he is. How about a couple of those throws specifically that side lying throw to DJ Moore again a matter of inches almost could have been tipped or possibly intercepted. It's not more catches the ball turns around the guy makes a place all in on the ball. Can't remember who it was. Maybe it was blank and chip to safety. Anyway, an easy touchdown from there for DJ Moore, but that throw, dude, that's a 40 hour throw. Most quarterbacks don't throw the ball with that much confidence if it's a 10 yard throw and just just links it there. That touchdown, the Palmer that throw the velocity on it. It reminded me that play reminded me very much in a game almost ended like that too,
the Kansas City playoff game, 13 second game. Right. It just let it at the game Davis in the middle of the deal when they had to have the touchdown. Josh Allen with a perfect bullet there. And then again, the defense literally held on for a dear life, but the touchdown run, the patience and just waiting for the opening. He didn't take off too early. He let guys run the receivers who got him out of the got him out of the play. It was just it was brilliant. I mean, there were a couple again, a couple of mistakes. A couple plays it. It got away with for sure. And don't lose sight of the fact that again, this was a dynamic, dynamic defense, but I feel like to beat Houston, your quarterback needs to be your best player. And there were a bunch of good players who weren't told about plenty of them, but Josh Allen was the best player in a kind of a star field game. No, he was. And if he's he's done it so many times and you know, think, think how they have him. You know what I mean? Like he's I don't have any other things to say.
Like he he knocked out another boogey man, you know, because I I've wrote about this in my previews last week about, you know, me, I'm missing nostalgia over here, but you know, I thought about this this match up, like the Steelers bills of the early 90s when like from like 93 to 96 or whatever it was, the Steelers, you should just crush the bills. I'm going to make football like every other year. And they would kill them. It would make no sense. Like why are they being in their asses handed to them? And I was like, it's either going to be that or it's going to be like the Bengals game where the Bengals were kind of like the boogey man last year going into this game like the bills had bad mojo against them. And that's what it was. It was the Bengals game last year except Houston's much better, especially on defense. And you know, you you you got to win a chip for Josh Allen, not just because he's a nice guy or because you know, he wears he makes cool hats or whatever. You got to win it because he's just a unicorn. This is a once in a lifetime player.
Can I read you go ahead? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I mean to cut you off. I do want I want to read you a status that I put up after the game on my Facebook. If I could find it in between all my chicken finger statuses. If I could find it here in real time, I'm like, dude, how many did you have chicken fingers again? I'm just sick. I was on Saturday. I went to a place. I'll have a review on Monday or Tuesday. I'll drop it. I went to Rodney's on the lake in Hamburg. Great place. Awesome fish fries. A lot. Can I ask a question? When is this chicken finger review wrapping up like? So this is it. You're just going to be you're like your boy, no for pizza, but this is chicken fingers. Yep. Chicken figures is my gig. It's my it's my slam. No one else is doing it. Let me tell you what I wrote about Josh Allen. Go ahead. Not to make this overly like mushy or sentimental, but I truly feel this way. And I want to know people listening and watching the show and you as well. You feel the same way. This is what I wrote after the game because I was just in a moment.
I'm just appreciating it, man. I'm appreciating what I'm watching on my television set. I said, no matter how the season or the next handful of seasons play out, I really hope bills fans take time to just appreciate what they have in Josh Allen and how much fun or anxiety could cause when you watch and play every week. Players like him don't grow on trees and he's one of if not the best player in the entire NFL right now, even the haters know it deep down inside to never forget what it was like for the most part post 1996 through most or through 2018 at the quarterback position here. Just a nonstop thrill ride to watch this fucking dude play football. If he doesn't deserve a Super Bowl appearance, no one does. That's what I how I feel. He's done everything and he continues to do everything off the field and especially on the field that a quarterback can do. He's not without flaws. He's not without mistakes. He threw that jump ball to Dalton concaid. Remember when they were inside the four yard line near the end of the half? I was worried about Houston double dipping the bills get a stop.
They get the ball like fuck dorks. They didn't fear catch it. It takes a hop stays in balance. They started the four. I'm like, get a first down. Get in the locker room. First down. Deep all the Dalton concaid. What's your order to talk about Dalton concaid and just a minute air. But 40 some yard gain. I'm like, that is just the craziness. But that's part of the Josh Allen. The law and it's I'd rather live with those mistakes and have a quarterback willing to do that shit than a game manager, whatever now you want to call him. Anyway, I can't stop talking about Josh. I'm just I hope what he did today. I hope you remember that when he has three turnovers. I know. 500 yards, but no, but you'll tell me turnovers matter. You'll yell at me. They do a maniac, a maniac like you always do. And that's right here. You want that. They won the game today because I got a turnover. And they got to one today. Okay, whatever shirt for five five. Well, my point is, yes, he will hurt you with turnovers, but I will live with that. He's just a joy to watch a play football.
I guess is what I'm trying to say. That's what your people appreciate it. Don't take that shit for granted because you might not see it again for a very long time. Yeah. And that's your exactly right. I think what like today, I think there was like, there were long drives today from both teams that went fast like less than a minute. Like the Texas had one too. Like it was. Yeah, because I can't stop thinking about it because you're so spot on. You're like, the bills had two 96 yard touchdown drives. Houston had four touchdown drives of over 72 yards. There were six long touchdown drives and they all looked easy for the most part. So while let me do this on a video side, I got to take a quick five second break. I've been babbling and hogging the mic to the pie. I don't know. I'm just. You're so excited. Josh Allen does things to me, man. It just. Yeah, he turns you on. I got me on. He turns you on. Yeah, the ball washing. I got you. You know what? The one crazy thing about this game was the bill scored, you know, 36 points. They only had the ball for 23 minutes. That's a point and a half wild. Oh, I mean, it's against the tech. They only had a 20 and they only had they only had 20 for 21st downs. I don't know. But low to me because they had so many chunk plays. I've talked about them the first segment, but again, 23 minutes, you have the ball and you score 36 points like just crazy.
Now, look, Josh was great, but he obviously didn't do it by himself. A trio of bills past catchers. The three that you would expect in hope to be major contributors, uh, most certainly were and let's start with Dalton. I think they had a big game. Five catches for 130 yards. They had no answer for him whatsoever. I learned who Paul Costa was today because it's been since him in 1967. Yes. That's a bills. Titan has had more receiving yards in a game. So a lot of people learned about Paul Costa for the first time tonight. Can I, can I, I look this up? Go ahead. Do you know that there's only been, take a guess at how many. Sometimes a bills Titan has had over a hundred yards receiving since 1967 or in franchise history. Take a guess like how many times 20, 14. That is it. They fucking I was I, because I saw that stat.
I was on Twitter about six, six, six, six, seven. I was like, okay. Like, when's the last time? I mean, I mean, we've, it's, I could tell you this. It's Costa, whatever his name is. Again, he had two, concaited is number three at 130, Dawson knocks 117, the game gets the chiefs. Some guy named Wardlich and 62, Pete Metzelars, Pete Metzelars, Charles Clay, Charles Clay, King Cade, Scott Chandler. I don't remember that game. Some guy named Crockett, then concaid and some guy named Grant. That's the list of the times a bills Titan has had over a hundred yards in a game. It's been like, it's, it's, it's, it's embarrassing. I've always said this like, you know, I give Dawson knocks, your boy a lot of shit. Like, I think sometimes he's overrated based off the history of a Titan position in this rock and this team. And just reading that, I'm just like, are you kidding me? Like, I think Travis Kelsey has like, has a season where he's had this many 100 yard games, you know, it's just amazing to me.
Anyways. It is. And here's the thing about King Cade, dude. It wasn't like they were just exploiting him on a linebacker. I wasn't like a linebacker fool. She tried in the cover room. Like on that key play, they're, he, he, he, he want to jump all over his safety. And on that key play that got them in the field goal range, I what became the game winning touchdown. Who did he beat on that? Lasseter, who's one of the better corners in the entire NFL? It is certainly just like there's some bills guys in the secondary name, number one, that you said you were worried about him struggling, which we'll get to in a few minutes here. But last, or this is, this is going to be definitely a day that he'd like to forget. Anyway, King Cade cooked him. I mean, again, this is one of the better, great corners couldn't even to handle him in this game. It comes down to him staying healthy, dude. I'm telling you now, if this dude stays healthy, he is going to be such a threat. The bills were like almost seven points per game better last year when he started
and played the whole game. He's just such a weapon man. He was, he was great today. And look, one of my complaints about King Cade has been he doesn't stretch the defense enough. Like in terms of like how they've used him. Sure. Like, you know, I think the one year he had like, you know, his rookie year, I think he had like less than 10 yards of catch or something like that. Which I was like, okay, great. I'm glad he had like, you know, 80 catches or whatever. But like his rookie year, sure. Yeah, his rookie year. Like he was a safety valve guy. No, yeah. He was and now it's like he's moving fast and he's a match up nightmare because he's fast, you know, in terms of like you got to you got to have like a safety on him at least or someone fast because he's he can get on the seams and it was big place. That's a crazy thing of this game. Like both him and more who I will get to. They both had over 20 yards receiving per catch. I can't remember. I can't remember the last time that's ever happened like when with the bills, you know,
right away. I stole a graphic from from Joe from Queens dot com. We're going to go graphic. So they both had a hundred yards receiving. This was the first time two bills had at least a hundred yards receiving and again, same games since December of 2020 at Denver. Step on days 11 catches for a buck 47 Cole Beasley eight catches for 112 yards. So yeah, dude, concade was incredible and it's always DJ more five catches for a hundred yards after not being a part of the offense early in the game. And then he did and pass interference penalties don't count towards stats. We drew a 46 yard penalty as well. So you had a hundred yards receiving any drew a 46 yard penalty, which to be fair. That was a bad throw under throw for G. He had the TV toast. Yeah. And Josh Codd was a little bit like there, maybe threw it to the wrong spot or whatever, but you couldn't ask for a better, more promising debut from from DJ more.
Who by the way, hundred yards in his bills debut didn't have a hundred yards last year. 19 games with the bears, including the playoffs zero 100 yard games. So talk about him because he also did something at the end of the game. I'll tell you about after. I don't know. I talk about DJ more. He stretched the field. I mean, and that's what he's supposed to do. He stretched the field. He got a penalty like you talked about 40 yards down the field. You do the stretching in the field. It makes it makes all the difference in the world because you got to respect the underneath stuff then. And he burned them. The one touchdown, the touchdown was great. Like he catches on the sideline turns the Texans guy mixes a tackle. It turns it up. He's up. He's gone. They need that big play guy. They've been missing that since they traded digs. And like he looked great. And you know, you could say what you want about the trade, like compensation, like what the bears have cut him or who the hell knows. But give me this, you know, like, hey, give me some more.
Give me more. Whatever the shirt says. Give me give me some more. Give me some more. Give me some more. Give me some more. Give me some more. What if that song bust the rhymes? Give me some more. Give me some more. I'm gonna put that on a t-shirt. And so did you, did you see after the game? Josh, I when he talked to I was having Washburn on the sidelines. Did you hear him describe the touchdown to Palmer? I know he said something along the lines of that's not where the play was supposed to go. It was the first time he was like screw it. I'm doing it. And yeah, he said it was the first time they ran that play that rep and it went where it went. It wasn't designed to go to him. And what he said was they were cheating towards the DB he saw the DBs were cheating towards DJ Moore, which kind of speaks to me on the stats there, Joe, like the attention. Something is not always about stats. The attention that he draws on the field is notable because it's opening up opportunities for a doll to concave and opening up opportunities for Josh Palmer.
Khalil Shakir quiet late in the game, but he had a couple of nice catches. Two of four catches for 50 yards. Two of those catches were down the field. I say this this summer at camp and things like that. If there are two things that have carried in now to the regular season when the game's matter, Josh Palmer had a great summer and he made the play when he got called on at the end of the game. Khalil Shakir, you can see they were throwing the ball to him more than just bubble screens of quick little outs and that Carolina game. They caught two passes in the preseason for like 20 plus yards on that one drive. This game he had two catches that went for first downs and weren't little short, you know, dump off. He did have the one bubble screen there, but what a good third weapon he is. He had cold, easily vibes today like the rousey was running. Where was getting the football thrown in, not just the bubble screens. That's this feels like the perfect role for Khalil Shakir in his offense, right? Yeah, he doesn't have to be the number one guy as a wide receiver, which he's he's been forced to kind of be the last two years.
You know, they wanted to marry Cooper to be that guy. They want to be on Coleman to be that guy or whoever the hell you want to be that guy. But yeah, it's it definitely helps him out to not have to be counted on one thing too. I had an assistant stat was, you know, we talked about the the time of possession, the bills average 7.9 yards per kit per play today. You know, and they're in Houston brand 73 plays of the bills 52 and the bills still outgain the Texans, even though they brand 19 less plays than they did. Or actually, excuse me, 21 less plays, which is kind of incredible. That's wild. It isn't it was an offense. It was a big play offense today. And that's fuck you death by paper cuts. I don't want that anymore. We've been talking about this over. It's over. I wouldn't say what relax, relax Pat. See, what do I always, there's propaganda Pat. There's panic pat. There's panic pat. There's pandering pat. Don't don't the three piece. The three P's. Hattering propaganda and propaganda.
Yeah, but this you sometimes get a little bit too excited. So that's that goes into propaganda pat. Like don't do you get a little too excited to take it out. It's a good game. It's a one star. It's not over yet. We don't know yet. It's one fucking game. And one game we can't say it's over yet. There's nothing is over as Rambo would say, but yes, it was it was there was no death by paper cuts. It was big chunk plays. Hooray. I want to say this about Kiakolman because a lot of people are talking about how he didn't do anything. I forgot he existed to be honest with you. That was the first time I thought about him today. You know, here's here was my expectations. I explained this. I feel like plenty of times before the season, I explained it again today. When it comes to Kiakolman and Josh Palmer, you could take the box score and throw it in the garbage. It means nothing. It means nothing. DJ Moore can cade. She care. They're going to catch most of passes. Cook's going to run the ball. That's awesome. Josh will run it a little bit. Palmer and Kiahn, it's when you get your number calls. Make the play.
If you're expecting Kiahn or Josh Palmer to have 7800 yards this year, minus injuries where they got no choice but to get the ball thrown a little more, they're going to be disappointed. But Josh Palmer like today, he did his job. Kiahn didn't really have an opportunity. So I'm not going to shit on Kiahn. It's just the way the game plan was. Hey, Kikit had 100 more at 100. Kiahn had 50. Josh Palmer had the winning touchdown. There's only one football, right? Joe? I mean, I got no issue with like Kiahn Coleman. I don't catch the ball if it's thrown yet. That's all I mean, they catch the look and land or I guess early in the game. That was it though. There's only time he touched the football, which it's it's it is what it is. I wouldn't say it's fine. It's not great. I mean, it's a second rounder, but you're right. Other guys stepped up our expectations for her. My super, super low. You're getting in paper cut territory though. You're getting into everybody eats territory. If you're worried about Kiahn, get in his four catches. That's the thing. Like he's not like if who knows?
I really would like to know tomorrow. I'm sure there's be some stat head guy who will have like, what do the bills run a lot today? You know, was it 12 personnel? Was it 11? I felt like they did a lot 12. I'm not sure. I didn't really know. There are a lot of three tight ends that's today. I know. Yeah. We talked about this. Like you doing that. It's tough shit for you, Keon or Paul Marrani, like you just, but maybe it's game plan oriented. You know, we don't know. So there's the last last point about the office. I'm going to make it. We would have done. We didn't do one, but if we did a pregame show this morning, we should be working before the game. We should. And I asked you and I said, Joe, what is your number one key to the bills winning this game before the game? What would you have probably said? I know what I said. What would you have said was the bills biggest key before this game started to win it? Not Josie Ellen. Having four touchdowns with no turn. Sure. I would have 60 yards. I would have probably said like protection protect Josh Allen.
No eight sacks again. That would have been my key. Like keep him up right. Okay. Let him have time. I'm feeling that something that's something answer you were looking for. No, no, it's sort of a sort of is a sort of is a sort of ties in protecting Josh Allen to me meant not being in a bunch of. Third and nine or third and sevens and second and nines, right? My key would have been James Cook needs to have a big day for the bills offense to kind of stop using from being able to pin their ears back and go after Josh Allen. James Cook wasn't bad. 57 yards. It had a good sound early and then they really, you know, they locked him down three catches for just 12 yards, whatever. He was fine, but here was my point. Why don't you talk about it unsung hero James Cook put the ball on the ground in that last drive and that could have been really bad. Well, Cyrus Torrance hustling down the field there to make the the fumble recovery. That was that was a huge play in this game.
The bills possibly quite possibly lose that game if it wasn't James Cook's pro. Oh, look, that was that how I was stinging you punch it out. I think it was stinging. That was a great play by the defense, but still the James Cook fumble things if you go, if you have a memory of last season folks, um, that made me remember last year that I had forgotten about the fumbling issue. That could have been really costly and the bills didn't ultimately need James Cook to have a strong game running the football. He was okay. Yeah, he started hot. It was he was hit four carries for 32 yards after the first quarter. Then he, I think what finished with 53 and I think you said that, but like 57. Yeah. So he knew much. He had to win four yards for carry. Not bad. Not terrible. Yeah, they they went into like more throwing. By the way, um, some Greg Vorse. I think he's like the seventh henchman on cover one staff. He tweeted out the snap counts from pro football focus.
Uh, just going back. He on common plate 29 snaps today. Dawson just to go real quick. Dawson knocks or a Dawson, an axe had 38 snaps. Shakir 30 key Coleman 29, Haas 24 Palmer 18. So yeah, you were right about the whole like tight end like them doing a lot of that in terms of that last drive. They were playing three tight ends like kind of a lot again. Haas was kind of like a hybrid 20 for you have 24 snaps for, uh, uh, I'll give the cover one bros credit because they've talked a lot about how the passing the pet the league of the league being a passing league is not as big as it used to be because they're playing too deep safeties or whatever. And you have to pound the football and they talked about this a couple years ago. It seems like the bills are listening. I'm listening to them. I guess we want to call I guess I got to give them their fucking flowers. And you know, I hate that. But, uh, but yeah, I mean, that's they're kind of doing that with with having two, three tight ends, maybe, but you want to hear a wild stack.
Based on our snap counts going back to Dalton, Kate. So last year, Dalton, Kate played 38% of the snaps. Based on this snap count today, Dalton, Kate played in 74% of the snaps. Good. Well, that's what you want to see from your number one tight end. Let's hope he keeps it, man. I don't want this guy to be the John Offer doll of the bills tight end room. Okay. Where he's just like playing half the year and is the impact. Alex Barber, did you just compliment the guy? Be honest. Look, I'm, I'm, I'm, I may have become a content bro myself. I'm, I'm a content bro. I know I'm on TikTok somehow. Like I've convinced myself to be on TikTok. Yeah, you have. Follow me on TikTok. Look, I do great videos. Like it's not, it's not like this idiot who just posts the same thing on all the social media stuff. I puts different things. So if you're following me on TikTok, you get videos of me like recapping things. While I'm walking my kid to freaking school.
And then like, threat of the threads. I do a threat of the day. And then Twitter, I just retweet how much I, I love this government. You know, because that's what you said. I can't, I can't, I can't shouldn't talk too many people. And then blue sky. I'm just like, here's some pictures of my kids. So yeah, Joe from Queens is everywhere. People, anyway, let's go ahead. Let's, let's flip to the other side of the football for now. It's about the good first, okay? Sure. Greg Rizzo, dude, this, this is what you want to see from Greg Rizzo, impactful plays in the biggest moments. Two sacks, two force fumbles, including one that puts the game away to very any. Also, as it covered it had a nice pass break up. He deflected a pass over the middle for for Dalton. Shultz. We're not for TJ. What we went three sacks and a pick six. We'd be talking about Groot as a potential defense player of the week. Candidate. There weren't too many players who were really good on the defense. But Greg Rizzo stood out in a great, great way.
No, there's another play that don't go in the stat box that quickly I do want to explain. Because again, I watched the game on my son and he's young. He's only 23, but he played football his whole life and he just knows football. And there was one play where he just, he set the edge. He didn't let Woody Marx get to the outside and he just, it was so easy for them to come clean up inside. Anyway, just a great game for Greg Rizzo. They needed it. They needed it. It, I don't want to say it was the best. I can't recall too many like best games of Greg Rizzo's career. It's up there. This might be it, man. This might be it, man. This might be it. Like you and I, you and I are box score scouts. I know you wanted to know. So you, what knew you wanted to deny it? Cause you want to be a part of the film bro coalition. But you and I have complained about like, can we get some sacks when it matters or whatever? Like it's some splash plays. This was a splash play game for Greg Rizzo. And you know, maybe the 50 was cursed. I know you're very, you're very anti changing jerseys because you think about little
Johnny down the street having to wear a 50 bruiseau jersey instead of a 15 one. Cause you're one of the, you're, you're, you're for the people over here. But maybe the 50 was cursed because who wants to be a defensive end with 50, 15. It's where it's at Todd Collins. Dick, you know, duct tape jersey or whatever. But J. Kumero. Was he 15? I remember him being 15. I'm trying to remember who the 15s with a Jonathan Smith. Fast Friday Smith 15. I don't know either way. Oh, Jack Cump, you know, but hey, he's probably the go to 15s. But yeah, he was great today. And they need that, you know, the defense overall, I, I know we're going to like take a dump on them momentarily. But you know, I'm, I'm thinking, you know, I deserve, but it definitely is definitely deserve without question. Oh, no. You're going to have to go back to the beginning. I die. We already did your ad. Yeah, we did your ad read Ranger. The picture you said was great. Why don't you subscribe to my website? You're, okay.
I know I must, you should have, you should have swear at the sponsors, but I'm going to swear at the sponsors. Anyways, I look good on camera. Anyways, well, we say, oh, yeah, we so was, he got splash plays. He was a nuisance. And I'm excited to see what he looks like in this defense. So. Yeah, I'm not going to get in no Ranger. All right. You got your, you got your, I got to, I got to give Ranger Corp. Super credit. He's a, he's a funny, he's a funny instigate. The level of petty for him to win the sponsor to show just so he can further shit on you a little bit. It's kind of admirable in a way. In the word of matrix from commando, I like you Ranger Corp. That's why I'm going to kill you last. Okay. So that's it. Great. I want to talk about D.I. Walker, by the way. Sure. D.I. Walker was incredible. He had a big, Result sack was the biggest because of one of the game. But D.I. Walker at first down sack when they were at first a goal, that put him back in a position where they had to throw the football. That was freaking huge. It was the one play they showed Ross Tucker.
Look at him, by the way, in a few minutes, less with him. He literally threw a double team off him and made a stop in the backfield. This dude might be the best player on the front seven for the Buffalo Bills this season before this season is over. When we're doing an end season review, the Buffalo Bills defense, talk about the front seven. I think D.I. Walker might be the best player on this entire front seven. He looks ready to dominate. And at times he was today. Well, there are lots of issues with the defense. He was absolutely not one of them. I don't know if I was drunk last year during any plays D.I. Walker made because I know everyone loved him. And I thought, okay, yeah, he's solid. He's good for a rookie. But holy shit, today he was great. And I don't know if he's gained weight or he looked fatter than normal, which is good. You want your interior guy to be like a fat guy.
Yeah, he made some awesome plays and the penetration he showed. It was great. And he's strong. He's fast. Yeah, no, he's strong. He stopped to screen out early in the game too. I mean, he did almost everything you get asked for somebody out there. Just blown away by him. I said it in the off season on a team that lacks like true star players. Sure. He's going to be a star. He's going to be a like a star in this league. Last year, I want to talk about in terms of the good. I thought this was a very promising game. And I know people love the shit on him. Tarell Benard. Yeah. Tarell Benard played really good in this game. He had a strong game. He looked like the Tarell Benard of all to me. He was flying around the football, making plays. Might not have mattered because I don't think they could have gotten another playoff. Anyway, but he did have the funnel recovery at the end of the game. It plays right time though.
Very promising because I didn't go in Williams and Caleb Williams or really. And I thought Tarell Benard was really good today. No, he was great. It was definitely one of those like, you know, the three guys, the two of the three guys you mentioned have been really, really like lightning rods. Like, ah, can we get more out of them with Russo and Bernard and today they showed up today. And this is a big year for Bernard. You know, he's been kind of absent for the last couple of years. Can we play for his job? Yeah. Yeah. No, he was great. He made some big plays and I keep thinking about this defense is being like a high risk, high reward defense. They're going to give a big place. They're going to get turnovers. They're going to get sacks. And we're going to get to those big plays. And that's what it's going to be. And I think today was a little bit of that. Maybe more, I would say like 35% big plays for them. 65, the other bad plays, which segway to you, buddy.
Yeah. That's why actually let's do this one more quick break on the video side five seconds or so we'll be back. We'll talk about a secondary. That was not good. You're listening to this podcast. Just a shocking, it's not shocking that this game came down in the last minute. That is not surprising whatsoever. It's shocking to me that the bills did what they did on offense to a great use in defense. Almost equally shocking. Maybe I shouldn't have been at how bad the bills secondary played in this game. I have to front seven was all right. Again, Crute was great. Walker was solid, but I was good. There was some plays. Dwing Carter was mentioned in the comments. He had a big stop. There were some stops. The secondary could cover anybody. Tuesday gave up or I should say scored on touchdown drives. 75, 76, 86 and 72 yards. Almost went down the field and scored a game winning touchdown. Secondary, bro, unmitigated disaster. Let's start with Christian Benford.
Juan Moore is still worried about the least. He got cooked today by Nico Collins, pretty much all day long. Fairness to him though, Nico Collins is going to eat up a lot of really good corners. He's a top 10 receiver in the NFL, but you said you were concerned about him. You said it on our prediction show last Sunday. This probably didn't help you, you know, feel less concerned. No, he got torched a few times. Now in fairness, I actually thought Nico Collins had over like a hundred yards receiving. He had like 77, I think, which I didn't think it was as bad as I thought it was going to be. But it felt like he had a billion, you know, in this game, like he was just burning. It felt like it was on pace. He didn't just watch in the second half, I don't think. And that's the thing about the defense in totality. Like they really stunk in the first half, but hey, they only allow 10 points in the second half, which you take. But yes, Benford was kind of a worry today.
It's an adjustment. This is a completely different defense than what he's been accustomed to. Yeah, he got burned. The defense gave up a lot of big plays today. The secondary, as you said, you know, was it was not a fine effort today by that. It was terrible. Yeah, it was terrible. The secondary was terrible. Nobody in the secondary made a good play the whole game. Nobody. It was a terrible effort. Terrible. I should be made one good play. Speaking of him and Max Irston. So Max Irston starts. They do rotate, which we thought might happen. Max Irston was weird because like he didn't get tested at all when he was in the game. But then at some point, I want to say the second half really on IGB gets into the game. I'm like, what are they rotating? Anyway, very first play of IGB's NFL career. So coming out of school, the knock on IGB, as he's too handsy, and he got called for holding all the time. Literally the first play of his NFL career, it gets called for holding.
But then a couple plays later, he made up for it with a really nice pass break. Which might have been the best play anyone made in the secondary. But he got beat a few times. Max Irston near the end of the game got lost along the sideline him and Alfred had some kind of miscommunication. Right as a first round pick and a second round pick over the last two years. And I don't feel really good right now in week one of the season. I don't feel that good about either of them right now. I'll get to the offer in a second too, but. That sounds rookie. I'm not going to go that crazy. They just had their moments look, I'm glad they clamped down the second half like into the candy. They gave up 10 points man. 10. I mean, you're going to take 10 in a second half. Come on. Yeah, they make the stops. They make the stops three and out. No, the second air look, it wasn't, it wasn't great. And I know who you're about to kill. So you may as well just tee it off for you.
And I'm going to I may have to go to the bathroom or something because I know you're going to. I don't blame him. You're talking about tomorrow, Hamlin. I'm not going to I'm not going to be mean to tomorrow, Hamlin. I'm going to be mean to Brandon Bean. Oh, you like that? I could have wrapped right there. That was a wrap line. That's a name that could be my new tagline. D mean to Brandon Bean tomorrow, Hamlin shouldn't be on the football field. Why is he on the football field? What have you seen that shows that he should be on the football field? You got today what you should get when tomorrow, Hamlin is involved in the defense. You got what you're supposed to get. And I don't understand. And in off season where it was such a priority that you go draft another corner. You got a first round of from last year. You signed the offer to get rid of Tyron Johnson. You get a brand new defensive coordinator. You switch the defense up. The draft J line kill gore Jordan Antis going in the year two and you got to my hamlin as you're dying safe to use playing on the football field. You got what you're supposed to get in that situation.
The glaring Joe, you ain't got to be an NFL GM or even a film bro to see with your own casual watching the game eyes. The dude is not athletic enough to run. He cannot run with NFL receivers, tight ends or running backs. He got exposed again. He got exposed again. He also had a penalty just looked lost out there. But hey, is it even his fault? Why is he he's the third safety on this team right now? He's the guy that you come up with in the dying package. I said boy, please don't play the dying package anymore. He go bitch and miss out the next play. Thank God he was all right. I was like great. Now I was going to start. Dude, he's just. He's not good enough to be on the field. He's a special team guy. He's emergency kind of guy. But the first option off the bench, the dying safety. Don't play dime anymore. How's Jordan and Hancock not the dime safety? Yeah, I don't dude. It's crazy.
Now is his dad's going to come for me? What's he? I hope he doesn't. Who can do that? I want his dad to kick your ass. I said, yeah, you could kick my ass. Who in their right mind objectively could possibly sit here and say anything to defend what you saw from the bar and went out there. It is not possible, not possible unless you're lying. Are you liar? No, he was bad. I'm in the skin. Doesn't. And you're right. This guy. Look, he gets his interceptions occasionally. I know you hate him. I don't hate him. He's kind of, you know what? I know you're going to shit on him. But like he's a little bit of an overachiever. He's like a six round rookie or he was drafting the six round. He played a lot. They look at him as a veteran. I don't know why I play him over. I'm not a big cancock guy. I mean, I like, you know, never there's worse options in the NFL to go to the end of my hamlin if push comes to shove. But when he's without no injury, he's your defensive. He's your dying back right now.
That's got to stop. There's one over reactions or not. If there's one takeaway from this football game on either side of the football that you need to go and change going into week two, you cannot have the my hamlin out there in a dying package. You just can't do it. Did you see a, he had a blitz once? Now, maybe it's not even his fault, but it was like he came from like 25 yards away from the line of scrimmage reminding me of last year as well as like a shaman durmit making these calls right now. It's just, you got to get away from that. Jordan and cox got to play activate kill or kill Gore was a healthy scratch. You got to do something, man. You get just that can't happen. That can't happen. That was. That was. Yeah. It was, it wasn't great, Bob. Um, we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens with Detroit and how if they try to zero on him, that's a good offensive team too. So you got, you got to get him off the field. You just, you got to, it's easy to sit there and just blame them.
I'm not doing that again. Neither, neither CB two was that good. Honestly, Gardner Johnson and Bishop were out there. They weren't really, they didn't know him back in this game either. Bedford did not have a good game. So nobody Alfred didn't have a good game. Nobody in the setting. Let me ask you this. So at a good game out of, do you feel it's because of talent or do you think it's just adjusting to the system? I sure hope is the latter. It could be. Maybe didn't we say in fairness and you're right. I know where you're going and you're right. That this was going to be a work in progress. This wasn't a finished product for the defense of week one, even though maybe I'm more frustrated because it was CJ Stroud and I get Nico Collins, but like Hutchinson beat, Deed offered who I sung his praises all summer. He beat him by like 20 yards on a crossing route. It's just some plays where it's like, what the hell is going on here, man? You've been saying his praises during the summer. You trying to tell me that August training camp doesn't matter.
Is that what you're saying? You've been singing his praises. You've been singing the songs and the podcast. All praises, Alfred. And we'll see what happens. This one game 10 penalties in this game. I was that was kind of annoying. That was a lot of back to back special team guys who make the team only because of special teams. Joe and Jason Ed one, which hurt them, by the way, it all. You jealous of him because all the girls like him. You're jealous. They do like him. That's for sure. I swear to you, I think Terry Pagoda keeps him on the team because he thinks he's like this guy's collar is blue and he's hot. That's why that's why he keeps him on the team. Anyways, go ahead. He had a bad penalty. Sam Franklin had a bad penalty. So that was in the bad. There's the good though. Tyler Bass. Maybe three for three in few goals. Were you a little bit? I'll give him credit. Yes, I was nervous. Yes. I think the game is like this could come down with a 50 yard kick from Tyler Bass. I was shit in my pants a little bit. A little bit, but I he played well. You know, he kicks really well in domes.
I think I got to look that up how he is in terms. I feel like he's always been pretty good with kicking up. But yeah, he had a really good game. The punter. I forgot his name. I refused to know what the punter's name. Tommy Dolman. Yeah, not until like year three. I'm like until he's Brian Mormon. I'm not going to care. No, but he had a nice punch. He had two points. Two good points. So he did a really good job. But yeah, penalties were were a little bit wacky today. But you know, overall like it's, you know, the defense is a work in progress. And I'm going to, if there's anything, let me ask you this question. Let me ask you this very very, because I know we're almost, I think we're almost today. Yeah, we're almost done. We're almost done here. These reaction chills. Plus, by the way, Joe will be on Thursday night after the Detroit game will be live. And you'll be on normal next Sunday. Don't forget to plug my, get my picture of my next to Joe contest thing. Ready, because I know you've been hating on. I don't have it on this graphic. I'll break. Okay. Any of you don't, next week, next Sunday, we're going to announce the winner live on this
podcast. I know that you're, you're just, you're giving me that, that, that Manson look of like Maru. That's right. Yeah, we're going to do that. We're going to announce the winner. All you have to do is subscribe to Joe from Queens.com. And you can get a ticket next to me in New Jersey at a Bill's Jets game, transportation from Queens to Jersey, tailgating, a gift from homage. I'm hooking it up. Ranger corpse. Actually, don't subscribe to me, Ranger corpse, because you're not fucking coming with me if you win. I'll throw in that shit of the garbage. If that happens. But yes, anyway, that's going to happen next week. But yes, I'll be on Thursday. Okay. Thank you, you prick. Thanks producer. You're just a jack of all trades at this fucking graphic. I swear. Anyway, what I don't you remember where we're going now anymore. Well, I think we're done. I mean, we're kind of done, right? What else? I just a fun game and a lot of luck. Sure. That's where football comes out with these close games. Again, James Cook fumbles of torrents isn't there. If last year comes down with an interception, the bill is loose.
But there's been a lot of bills losses where you can always point to one or two plays. I guess to put a ball on this a short week coming up Detroit, who looked really shitty on defense did hold on the window against the Saints. I think 31 30. You know, the other one overrunner for this game might be like 140 next Thursday, with these two all lenses in the way these two defenses have looked. But you were talking about the defense still being a work of progress. And I do, I do agree with that. I'm not our Benford. I still like to build safety. I'm not even out on CB two. Just make that change it at dying back. And I don't like this defense. I better going forward. But let me ask you this. Yeah. Working progress. How long are you? When can I have to take working progress out of my excuse bag for you? Like when I don't want to hear working progress anymore. Like when does that happen for you? Five games.
Five games. So week five is when no more. Excuse like what what progress is there? It's here's the progress. To get off a block, beat your guy one on one. They play a lot of man cover your guy better. You know, that's the work of progress. I suppose the only had three sacks today and two of them came in the last three or four plays of the game. The only had one sack for 59 minutes in this game. I felt that it was a good pressure in the first couple of drives. And then it kind of went away. Um, yeah, overall. But yeah, look, it wasn't, it wasn't the greatest. They did, like I said, clamp down in the second half. Actually, I have this question I wanted to ask you. If I were to ask you between Sean McDermott and Joe Brady, what was that? Give me two things that you were like, if you were, if I told you, I want you to do a podcast on what was different today than what had been last year with Joe Brady versus Sean McDermott. What would it be? Like for you, like give me a couple off the top of your head.
Like what felt today different than under Sean McDermott if anything? The willingness to throw the football down the field. For sure. They were much, I think they were more aggressive offensively, which makes me think that maybe Sean did have some kind of leash on Joe Brady. Lot of bottles screens again coming into the game. You got to run the ball, a little quick play action stuff, kind of keep Houston guessing. Joe Brady said, fuck that. We're coming after them with our best players and we're going to chuck the ball around the football field. They went for it on fourth down on the first series. Deon Dawkins, who we even mentioned is old podcast. A lot of people are down on him. It wasn't a great game for him, but I'll say this. Keep the opponent in mind. Will Anderson, Danielle Hunter, two of the best in the NFL. They're going to, they're going to, they're going to get you sometimes, right? He missed the block on the fourth down. I get it. Anyway, aggressiveness on the offense. That's the only thing I could think of. I can't think of anything else.
Well, they down the field, sure, but I, if I was going to be Sean McDermott's attorney, I would say, well, you have DJ Moore that helped a lot, which they didn't have last year, obviously. I was a little let down by the defense, you know, in terms of, look, that's the biggest thing with the Sean McDermott change. It's the defense. That's why I'm using air quotes. They did the change. So like, you know, the defense was failing them in big moments. And hey, the defense today did get that moment at the end of the game. And that's something that we cannot, I cannot tell me the last time a Sean McDermott defense made a play at the end of the game when a team is driving. Let's get that big play to stop them. They made a few. I don't know. At the top of the head specifics. You got to, I don't know. If anyone in the chat, Ralph Wilson, senior or diving pickle can remember. I can't remember too many big plays that the defense has done. I mean, I guess the poyer play against Trevor Lawrence last year, that just came in my head in the playoff game.
But it's been rare. And I had to adopt to a nerdy end of the game. There's a nice football. That's too well. Come on. I just, I'll say this though, Jim letters you certainly, certainly have more leeway right now than say, if Joe, say if the offense looked like a complete, if the office looked the same as it did the last few times, they went to Houston. I really wouldn't have any excuse at all for Joe Brady. But I could give a little bit of an excuse for Jim lettered. Not only the second, I'll say this about the secondary to Joe. Bishop missed a lot of camp. CJ Garter Johnson missed most of the summer. That's something I dinged up in the summer. Well, they met so intense in August. Injuries always for dairies. It's a tough place to live in. Pangeries injuries matter. So the secondary hasn't been together. Collecily for most of the summer. So I'll give them that. It's just that. I to scale one to 10.
How much you just say, well, it's a learning curve. Chooses not bad. Bada, Bada, Bada. How much do you say that? Or do you say I'm really concerned about this Buffalo Bill's defense issue? Cause look, they just came up 31 points in Houston, Texas or not very good on offense. Look, I don't want to see that about them, not going to an offense. They've made improvements. Okay. And you got to you got to factor that in with the line play. And I thought they played well today. I'm not. It is working progress as enough. But again, I sit in the offseason that the defense did worry me. It did. So I'm probably going to stick with it. Like, yeah, it does worry me a little bit. But they got the turnovers. They got sacks. A couple of none of a lot, but whatever. That's as I said, it's going to be a high risk, high reward, defense, cliches and all. It's a, it's a, it's a concern. But we'll see what look, they got they, it's going to be a tough month offensive or defensively for them. They got no, they don't have many cupcake coming up.
Then they don't, they don't, they're not playing fucking John Becker. I know. Well, we, they're weak to the playing Detroit. By the way, some, some, some, some injury luck going the bills way right now with the schedule. But anyway, so they're playing Detroit on Thursday who looked terrible on defense against the saying this week. Then they're playing the chargers and in Buffalo who lost at home to Arizona, era on Sunday. Then you're playing to England without AJ Brown. And then you're playing the Rams without Miles Garrett. That's big. Obviously, so a little bit of injury luck. Mike only could, Mike lasting concern. No, I know Groot, it is job at the end. But besides him, getting after the quarterback, they got to have somebody's Bradley job, TJ Parker, Michael Hoyt. Well, I didn't think I had a very good game today by the way. Oh my God. You're telling me that the six quarters of the greatest quarters of all time didn't translate to one game. Did you think he was going to sack any Dalton?
I know you love Hoyt. You got him on the ball washing how a fame. Fast track. Michael Hoyt. You love everyone. That's going to take some time, maybe for him. It just today wasn't his best game. Oh, there's going to be some film content tomorrow on Twitter X. There's going to be like, look at Hoyt. Seal the edge because we are more concerned about CJ Stroud until the end of the game and away too much time to throw the football. Then I am specifically about the secondary. I'll say one thing about Demarrihan when he had a holding call, but it was also a play that took like nine seconds to develop. So there's that last point. One game overreaction or not, I don't care what you say. This offense is something to be really, really excited about. This has the potential to be the best offense, maybe in the NFL. It's certainly right up there. This offense could be borderline unstoppable. What they did to a great use in defense on the road, you have to take notice of it. And they also do have the ability against other teams to just run the football
with the NFL's leader, Russia last year. I don't want to say an embarrassment or riches, but this is a loaded, loaded offense. And especially if Daltar did get gay because they helped me, dude. I'll feel good to get with this offense against anyone they play this year. That's my biggest takeaway from this game. They're a matchup nightmare for our opposing teams because they can play the two tight ends and kind of they can get cook 20 cares for 110 yards or they can do what they did today with 330 for yards passing. They are going to do a lot of different matchups and they got a lot, they got talent there with more secure and concave. That's your big, that's your, that's a trio catching and they got James Cook, who atop five running back in the league. And they got good offensive line, obviously. So yeah, it's, it's a dangerous offense right now. So sign me up for it. Yeah, all right. Anything else before we, before we bounce out of here, I feel like I covered
everything like saying my biggest takeaway is I believe in his bill's office big time. That's pretty much all I'm trying to do. Anything you can hit on. Yeah, just read my site, joe from queens.com, following all those socials, bullshits and all that crap. Oh, thank you for the tag of the very nice graphic. At least you didn't spell anything wrong like you did with peril with Gilbert. And that's it. I'm only doing one beer tonight, sadly, because I have to, I think I have to be on alert for for some number one. So it's only a pills and are sadly, trust me, I wanted to next Sunday, we'll get shit faced. I'm looking forward to that because there'll be no game. We're going to announce the winner. I'm really hoping because it's subscribers. And I know you're going to be jealous because pod father is a subscriber to my website now. I'm really hoping he wins. He'll win because you'll be so jealous. You'll be like, what the hell? I wish I could be down there. I want to hang out with you guys. I'm going to go see them Wednesday night, by the way. Of course you are. You're the Wednesday night. If you live in Buffalo area Wednesday night, I think it's around six o'clock at Buffalo River
works. Joe Marino, Jerry Astrosky, they go. John Fina and I did Jeremy White too. All four. Yeah, Jeremy White. Yeah, it's going to be. Yeah, you're going to be doing a live show at Buffalo River works. River works is like the spot where all these positive conscience. It's fair. Yeah, it's fair. Are you been there? We met up there last year. I met you last year there and you know, you were ugly in person. I forgot. No, I'm kidding. By the way, by the way, I thought off the Ranger Corpse. I'm canceling his sponsorship. You know, I don't want his stuff on my appearance anymore. I called you fat earlier. You're not even. I did see that. I did see that. Thanks a lot. You're a real good guy. That's a, that's a form of bullying. Maybe I might have to reevaluate the sponsorship. I'm not going to reevaluate the sponsorship. Yeah, I know he's probably giving you like $20 or something like that. And you're like, oh, I've got to do this. It's free parking. Oh, yeah, there is free parking. There is free parking. Buffalo River works. It's huge, huge facility.
You need a drink there. What? One thing. I don't know if you noticed this, but like at the end of the first half of the two-minute warning at the end of the game, James Cook was definitely out of bounds with 201 left. And then they like clicked another second off. I don't know if you saw that, but when you watch the film or the condensed version or whatever, you have to look at that. Like literally, they just decide. It was like the Michigan game from last week. Like they just decide we're going to give you another. We're going to take a second off. Like they could have been an extra play. It was super weird. I was pissed off when I saw that. I don't know if you saw that. You were probably looking at your son or trying to steal pod followers tweets or something. Anyway, so I do want to as we're getting out of here. Again, most people are going to listen to this sometime on Monday. For the people who've been following along with us live, I do apologize for not keeping up with the comments as much as I was like. You sucked in the comments to be honest. I did. Not my best, not my best performance. I will perfectly, I will admit that again, I'm using a platform that I'm not used to.
So trying to monitor stuff just like with the real game on Monday, I will be going back. I cannot wait to watch the all 22. Oh, good. I need to watch the all 22. I've I've thought about doing a TikTok of me looking at all 22 film, but I'm just going to be like a dick. Be like, look at this asshole. He should be covering him and just be like a brace of prick. Anyways, let me say this in all services for people who are listening about the all 22 film. No, seriously, like Anthony Pro Haska from Cover one who's so good at that. Obviously Joe, Joe Marino and a few others. Me too. I watch it. They find other things. What I love doing, Joe, with the film is I'll go to a big play to game. Like say the, uh, a long pass adult to concade, I'm going to look for who made a key block? Who did something that doesn't show up on the stats sheet that allowed this play to work? That's why I like watching the all 22. I look at big plays, big moments of the game. And then I look at all 11 players on the field and maybe somebody who stood out in a good way
or bad way in times. That's why I like to watch the film. Sure. This mark is new. So he's been begging for some shine. Joe prom queen is a bum. Joe clearly aligns fan. He's been talking about the bills you're going to get the rasses kicked on Thursday. I like that. They'll come bring that small cup of the show. Let's smoke. Yeah. I mean, I rather have you insulting me than the sponsor of the show. The ratio Pat takes his listeners for granted. Oh, wow. No, Pat loves. Pat loves his listeners allegedly. But he looks, he looks to be a newbie to the show. I'm like, I'm considered they call me a panderer. I feel like I'm different with none. I don't know if you can, if you pan into the listeners, you pan into the media. I mean, you can't wait, you know, you can't wait to have, uh, you know, tied on on and all those guys you could ball. Tell me on, ill be on soon. Allegedly, I thought. Oh, I know, I know, I know, Ty, he's, he's hard to track down. He's a busy man. He's not like you just eating chicken fingers, like doing the fucking tour over here.
I still can't believe you. I was just chicken fingers. Hey, what's going to say, dude? I do not take my listeners for granted. I appreciate everybody. You're very much. But anyway, I'm going to go back like not just with the game. I'm going to this podcast. I'm going to watch the film. I'm going to listen to the film. I'm going to see what this Streamyard platform, how it sounds on the audio side, how it looks on the video side, because I like the other platform better. But there's bugs that got to be fixed in that fucking thing. To do that podcast with Christopher Paso on Friday and not even have it, to be able to air it was, um, on video on the video side, right? On the video side. Yes. But normally, you're ugly face. And Chris is a good looking. Chris is okay. Chris put your hands on. I wonder how he did. Last point, because he just reminded me media. Another point. Ross Tucker. Ross Tucker. I thought he was awesome today. He's a great. He is so good at describing shit that's going on. He's got an honesty in he's just authentic. And you could you could hear you could feel it when he's talking. I think he's going to be like Greg Olson is on Fox like the next big thing.
Ross Tucker is really, really good. I was blown. I was more like blown away by how good he was today. I hope he's there for for a lot of games this season, because I was very, very impressed with him. So you're you're ball washing him. Just the ball washer of the game. We need to start doing a ball washer. Ball washer the game ball washer the game. Let's do it right now. Who's the ball washer the game? Who's my ball washer the game? Who's your ball washer the game? Ah, Josh Palmer. Because he worked hard all summer. He had a great summer. He had a great training camp. He stayed ready. And he didn't even have a target to the very end of the game. And when his number was called and they needed him to make the play, he made the play. He beat a great corner. He held onto the ball. I'm a big Josh Palmer fan. I knew he had it at him. I believed in him all summer long. And I said, it's just a matter of time till he gets on the field and he makes an an impact for this football team. And helps the bills win a game. Josh Palmer, by a mile, is the ball washer the game for me.
Who's your ball washer the game? And I mean, oh, back to the back. My back is ball. Back to the half balls because they got chopped off. He's back to my camera. There he is. There he is. There's backster. There's my little show. We had the whole show for backster. We waited for you backster. My ball washer the game is going to be the guy that every game gets ball wash. Josh Allen. He was incredible today. My have been this best game in the regular season. Never so much. Yes, I'm going to have to start digging. You know what? Because you put that in my head. I'm going to start digging of ball washer like ball washer the game. Yes. Ball washer the game. I have other kind of similar type of a worser each game to as well. All right, guys, that's enough. That's a backster's chilling. At least he's not knocking on your shit down or making any noise. He's going to bite me at some point. Watch he likes to bite. I'm trying to get him to bite me. But who occasionally bite me? Always being cute. He likes to be on camera. All right, guys, that's going to do it for talking backster.
Talking about that. That's all. Good one diving pickle. Go backster. All right, guys, thank you so much again for watching for listening. And the show's not over to Ralph Wilson. And the comments gives you the peace sign, which he just did. So we're out for Joe from Queens. Patrick, thank you so much. Starting a short bills week here because they will be playing again on Thursday. Brand new show coming right back at you tomorrow.
