We're here in the Good Hand Studio presented by all state. Thanks all state. Thanks all state. Yeah. And thank you guys for tuning in. I'm Fortune Feaves, sir. Oh, I'm name Martin as well. Oh, and I'm Tick Notaro as well. Yes, we have a change since the last episode. I feel like we keep getting more attractive, or at least you two do. You do too. You're looking mighty fine. You are. I wanted to hear. You're looking tan. You're looking outdoorsy. Can I show you how tan I am? Please. Yeah. Have I shown you that? Yeah. We noticed it. I'm taking off field Apple Watch. If you're listening, Tick is revealing the craziest watch. That is a quite a farmer's tan as they call those. Yes, I farm with an Apple Watch. It's good to see you guys. Good to see you. I see you. I see the little twinkles in your eyes. Well, we don't get to see each other in person enough in studio and live shows. No offense to our Zoom recordings, but I was talking to Stephanie about it.

I was like, I got to say the in studio recordings and the live shows, they're electrifyingly. I really, really look forward to that. Yeah, me too. They're very fun. I feel like, well, because you know, it's when you're with each other, you're picking up on each other's energy. Yeah. Stephanie just went to her first in person audition. Oh my gosh. In six or seven years. Wow. I think it's a couple in person. They got to bring it back. Well, this, I was going to say audition or but casting director has fully brought it back. Yeah. I think it's crucial. Yeah. Yeah. I get nervous, though, in person. I think I'm probably better on Zoom. I think I'm better in person. Really? I'm charming with your games and your, you know, the old personality gets to shine. Yeah. Yeah. And Zoom, I get a little bit lazy with the lines. Yeah. Because I know I have it on the screen if I need it. Or is in person, I have to be off-book.

Yeah. So I think I'm better off-book, but it's hard. It is hard to memorize. I did some off-book in-person therapy. Oh, yeah, me too. What does that mean? I'm just being my off-book for therapy. Yeah. I'm normally, my therapist moved to Michigan. Oh, okay. In the pandemic, I think. Oh. It's been that long? Yeah, like a minute? Yeah. Yeah. But I mean, every now and then, she comes in town and then I do in person. It's better, right? It's so much better. I just started up with someone. I had one session with her months ago and then now I've got two in the bag. I love her. Not in a weird way. I just think she's great. Not in a weird way. I'm not obsessed with her. I'm not like that. I'm not thinking about you all the time. I'm not googling her. I did give her a Google. Yeah, yeah. You gave her a Google. You gave her a Google. You give everyone a good Google. I got to give everyone a good Google. I just to make sure there's no weird stuff. Yeah, see what's up. Yeah, she's really funny.

That's what is the difference between funny and like subtly. Yeah. Is that what you're looking for in a therapist? It puts me at ease. It pulls out a rubber chicken. I like to chuckle after I reveal my trauma. Yeah. She laughs at you. She's doing bits all the time. Papa. Yeah. No, she just like, I like it when a therapist swears every once in a while. Like, I go, the world's fucked. She goes, it's fucked. It makes me feel safe. If she swore too much, I'd feel unsafe if she was like, this fucking. She's walking in a fine line. Yeah. All right. Yeah, I've heard my therapist cuss a couple of times. It feel cool. Yeah, where I was like, it jolted me into reality. Yeah. You're like, oh, this is a person. Yeah. This is a person. Yeah. It's not just ahead. You've had the same therapist for a year or so now? Since 2018? Wow. That's how it should be, right? You're building a long-term relationship. I don't have a therapist currently because my life is totally, totally easy peasy. Everything smooth.

Yeah. You're not carrying any loads. I was seen a therapist for a while and then I just, it just kind of fell off. It's hard to make good on those things. I feel like every time you follow through on like a self-care thing for yourself, then you're teaching yourself that you value yourself. That's what I'm regurgitating what someone said to me. I've really been sticking with it. It's Wednesday at 7 a.m. I would be, yeah. My internet would be out. You know, like those early mornings. No, that's impressive. I do have to remind myself to look at my hair and my face a bit before I get on that face. My face is like white, crusty thing. Yeah. What time do you wake up normally? I would say between 530 and 630. Yeah. What time do you normally wake up? 9. 8.9. Yeah, I'm about like 7.45. Exactly in the middle of the two of you. Isn't that so us? That's so us.

It's classic us. Classic us. It's classic us. Thomas, what time do you get up around 8? 8 a.m. Yeah. Yeah, I feel like I know that. I know it in my heart and soul. Yeah. The Thomas rises around 8. 530 is too much for me. Yeah. That's a little too early for me. I know it would change my life. You'd get so much done. But I can't fall asleep at night. Guys, every time I drive here and I'm, we're doing in person, I kind of am hoping that you guys will see me arrive in my car. I realize I can't. I didn't see you pull up. Oh. Did you see that I hit the fence? Oh, I see. I think I saw you while you, maybe I saw you while you were already halfway in. I pulled in, feeling good, thinking, I wonder if this is their cars. I wonder if they saw me. And then just like, as I was parking this car, I wasn't there. All the front fence. Oh, yeah. Just hit the front fence there. And it's, how'd that feel? Just classic you? A little tap. Yeah, I thought. I'm here. Oh, God.

I stated this girl that her grandmother, she lived in a trailer as a kid. And when her grandmother would come over to visit, she'd slam into the trailer and that's how they knew that grandma was there. Grandma's home. Yeah. And then also when her grandmother went into a retirement, not retirement, like a nursing home. Yeah. Which is pretty retired. Yeah. And then when her grandmother was in nursing home, she said that there was a woman in a wheelchair who said to her, she was like, let me out of here. And the girl was a very young girl visiting her grandmother and she, it was an elder to her. So she opened the door and there was a ramp. And the woman rolled herself out down the ramp. And then the wheelchair went off of the ramp and her leg came off. And it came off, but it was a prosthetic leg.

Oh, yeah. But God. And she didn't pick up one that far. She didn't know that as a child. And she saw the whole thing happen. And in the child's life, her leg just flew off. Just how many things she did. Yeah, that's how I figured. Exactly. Oh, my God. So of course you'd open the door for an older. If somebody was like, open the door, let me out. Oh, sure. There you go. Down the ramp and off the leg. Off the leg. With the leg. Poor lady. Yes. I don't think she's with us anymore. But the kids. No. Bless her. I have something for you for your house. You do? Yeah, I brought it in. What about my house? Well, this is the... It's not for my wife. A decade. This is... It looks better online. Isn't your head shot? It's my head shot. Wait, you ordered it for me? Yeah, but it looks better in the picture. Okay. But it's just for your wall of things. Oh my gosh. And your...

Like, in your office. In your office. Let's see what it is. It's just a weird print. It's the golden girl. Of the girls. In my mind, there's a little bigger and a little bigger. No, I've found a little frame for this. And why are in our face? I thought it first. I thought it first. I was expecting to see all of us. That would have been better. In this? But that... I could also make that happen myself. I could put... You could just cut out our... I could cut out our faces and put them there. I should have done that. That's very sweet, Mae. Thank you. Well, Mae's very thoughtful. Thank you, Barbie and a friend. Look at their hair. Shabbos down. Run back again. Still never seen an episode. Still never seen an episode. I've never seen an episode. It's so good. It's written by Gaiman. You know? Yeah. It's so amazing. Sassy ladies. St. Words written by Gaiman is perfect. That's the dream combo. For sure. Well, you know, we had some renovations that are completed at the house. So it's like a brand new house. Oh my. Yeah, you're right. Could I get a picture of a cast? Sure. Oh, I was going to say the cast of Good Times.

But let me put in a better request. Yeah, well, you want to... There is a painting in the beginning of Good Times. Oh, yeah. With the music... It's just all these people dancing and... And the camera pans along that painting. Is it the cast or just random people dancing? No. Okay. I'm on it. I want to... I have always wanted that painting in my life. I want it. Yes. When someone mentions something and I make a little log, like... So I'm going to see Beauty and the Beast on stage with ParvAnama. And so I ordered... We were like, it'd be fun to go and costume. So I ordered these full, like, a Lumiere costume, the candlestick. There's Mrs. Potts, the tea pot. And then Amas Chipp, the Lumiere in a relationship. Yeah. Yeah, one of my upsets. And so we put them on. And first of all, Parv's daughter did not like hers. She was like, it doesn't... I don't feel immersed enough. And then mine, I've put on... I thought I was being really like charming and fun and free.

And I looked in the mirror. It's the most unattractive... I can't explain it. I have to show you. It's like, it covers all my hair. So it's like this. Yeah. It's like, it's crazy. I've never seen your hair like that. I know. And it's a big part of my look is like... That it's not ever like that. And yeah, that's definitely. And it's got these little yellow pants that come up and a little like, fluffy neck and... You're like, I'm out. I can't do this. You can't do fluffy neck. I can't do fluffy neck. You don't have to do fluffy neck. But now, Parv, like, you have to. And this... I can't change the costume. I'm gonna try and make it a little cooler. A little sexier. Like, cut the sleeves. Cut the sleeves, maybe. Muscle tee. Just some yellow sweatpants instead of the little... Wait, and this is an interactive? No, it's just a musical on stage. But I think you'll address it. Wait, why are you all dressing up? I'm just in a relationship. Just for fun. I think other people will dress up. Do you? We'll find out. We'll find out, right? I hope that no one else is up. And you're in this insane costume.

I don't even know how we'll sit down. Like, they're really big. Someone's sitting by and you and you have the candle. Yeah, candle on the top of your head. Wait, wait, wait, is it... Yeah, candle, yeah. The candle log, right? Right, we were always cut. And whose idea was this to dress up? Mine, I got... Oh, yeah. Why did this to yourself? I did this to myself. I did this to myself. But I didn't anticipate how embarrassing I'd look. Do you still feel gung-ho about... I've been trying to get out of it. I said, can I be Gaston? Can I be the Beast? Yeah, how did you not... Come over Gaston to begin with? I know. Why am I in the mirror? That's the obvious choice. I know. I know. I'll let you know how it goes, guys. It's less than a week. I know what to do. I love looking over at two. It's trying so hard to be invested in this. I just... I cannot imagine wanting to do that. Really? I would honestly... That would not be my thing. No, two against one. Really? We're big beauty in the Beast Tests. Two against one for sure. I know I love beauty in the Beast.

I just don't want to dress up. No. I think I thought this will make a memory. Honestly, you guys might giggle for hours. Yeah. It could be great. Parva has a full gray wig and is a teapot. I mean, it's pretty fun. And is she into it? She's very into it, but she looks gorgeous. As long as she's gray. As long as she's into it. But I'm not into it anymore. I'm going to get out of this. Let's fast forward. You're with Parva into your elderly days. Yeah. And her hair is gray. Yeah. Would you be okay with that? Well, this was a good test. I got to see it. Yeah. That bone structure is still there. Yeah. I found it very sexy. Yeah. Maybe I'm into it. Did I tell you my type? No, tell me. I mean, obviously. Teapot? This is not definitely a description of Stephanie. But I kind of like exhausted housewives. Yes, you've told me that. Yeah. Like sort of frazzles. Really? Mm-hmm. Yeah, what does that look like? I don't know.

I kind of thought, well, maybe Parva Dees got that going on with the gray wig. And, you know, kind of like a little bit of some... Like a stain on the shirt. No. Like some wrinkling in the cleavage area. Oh, you know. Just like... Are you cooling in the ankle here? Yeah. Yeah, a little bit. You know? Like she lives. And the hair is a little askew. Yeah, yeah. Like I was just cleaning back here. How can I help you? Yeah. And I'm like, oh, exhausted housewife answered the door. What a fantasy. Yeah. That means very fantasy. And then you're like, take a load off girl. Yeah. Let me show you how to relax. It's not exactly what I'm looking for. But sometimes when I see an exhausted housewife, I'm like... Vava, vana. Hello. Hello. I mean, school pickup and drop off must...is a hot bed. Except in LA. You know? I know. Because everyone's very put together. I know. Yeah. You said that so humbly and shyly. I think I'm going to the US open was tennis. When is it? Yeah, where is it? I'm going September nights.

So this will have already aired. I'm sure at a great time. I'm sure you had a blast. I was how the US open went. I invited my older brother to go with me. So we'll see if we end up having a fun brother sister bond. Yeah, just the two of us. We haven't done anything together a long time. He hasn't, as of this recording, he hasn't told me and yes or no yet. So he said yeah, he's keeping you. You guys have a blast. He's playing hard to get. But yeah, I'm excited. Have you been? I've never been. I've been playing tennis since I was five years old. Well, I see your what's so called. Those are tennis shoes. The most standsmith. I was called the Stampsmith. Yeah, I've never been. So this is quite exciting. Is it like there's a whole like the US open like people dress up and wear little hats and stuff? Like you know the way Wimbledon or people like. You don't know. No, I don't think it's dressed up like Wimbledon. There's no blazers and stuff.

But do they wear little tennis outfits in the catalog? No, no. It's American. So there are always, there's some people that look really nice and other people are super cash in like athletic gear. Yeah, yeah. Well, yeah, there was this comedian that I started out and stand up with. Her name was Carol Anne Leif. And she had a joke that I loved so much about the peep. In fact, I ran into her after a million years at some Oscar event. But she had this joke about in the audience that the whatever at tennis. I don't know if it's at Wimbledon or whatever. But when women show up in their tennis outfits. Yeah. As though they're going to be like. Oh, as if they're playing. Well, you know, they'll show up in tennis skirts and. Yeah, so funny. And visors to watch. Yeah. And then you can say, yeah, if Miss Janet Johnson could please come down on the court. Whatever she said.

Anyway, it's like someone dressed as a pilot for every flight just in case. Yeah. Jerep's in case. God, should we do an in memoriam? Oh. It's such a bummer. But I feel like we talk about Dolly Parton a lot on the pod. You guys are deep, deep fans. Well, what's crazy is that our podcast aired the morning that Dolly passed. And we happened to like randomly talk quite a bit about Dolly. Yeah. Saying one of Dolly's songs. We were talking about dressing up as Dolly. Yeah. Wait, I'm sorry. That's on this episode that's out today. The episode that aired a couple days yesterday. What's today? Yesterday. Yeah. Yeah. The day that happened to pass like a. I don't. Did she pass that morning or it was at least announced that she passed. Yeah. And so people were like listening to our episode talking about her and, and you know, how

much we love her. And then we're getting the these notifications about her passing as they were listening. How trippy is that? So have we gotten comments of like. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Where people are like, oh my gosh. People are being like, what a weird, good, weird answer. Yeah, I think they know we recorded it earlier. Yeah. Wow. It's the Katie Curricap. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. But, you know, obviously, we didn't know. God, what a loss. I know. I think the thing everyone kept saying is like, she just seemed like she lived forever. Yeah. Yeah. She just can't imagine a world without Dolly. I know. It's like part of your inner world dies to like someone you grew up watching and yeah. And also when when someone passes away and then you see all the clips of them over the decade, it's being interviewed and she just made it look so easy to be tolerant and compassionate even in like the 80s or whatever. She was so like inclusive. Yeah. You are like, be who you are. What's the deal like?

I'm a and Stephanie showed me a video of the Buckingham Palace playing nine to five. Yeah. And that really got me. I know. Even in England, you think of her as such an Americana kind of, but yeah, it was like their brass band or their marching band for a lot of five. Yeah. Well, I mean, I just, people were trying to think like, is there another comparable person? Obviously, there will never be anyone like her, but there really isn't a comparable person because I mean, truly, she went across all aisles, all different kinds of people, all different kind of backgrounds. And I don't think anyone can live up to her legacy because what we're learning and a lot of people knew already is how generous she was. Yeah. I think she gave away $500,000,000. $500,000,000. Yeah. So like the amount of people she touched not only with her money, but with her music, with her songs, with her, you know, acting, there is no one that compares to what she has done

in her lifetime. Yeah. So everyone, like every video was people solving. Yeah. You know, apparently, I mean, I love this idea that like one of the highest forms or places of enlightenment you can reach is generosity. Yeah. Is just, that's so nice. I like that concept. Yeah. Yeah. And she, on the same day, she wrote, I will always love you and Joleen. She wrote them both on one day. What? Imagine that. Yeah. I'm writing it. Any of those songs. I saw her live. Have you seen her live? No, I never had to see her live. This woman, fingernails to here, playing a banjo. Yeah. Amazing. I'm like, what the hell am I even looking at? Yeah. Aside from a guitar, a banjo. Yeah. Sure, there's like a picking, but like the fingers on me. The finger. Yeah. I don't know. I got to meter and I, she's so lovely and, you know, like everybody just wanted

to tell her, you know, thank you for everything. And it was one of those places where they tell you not to take pictures. So I was like, I'm not going to ask. I want to be respectful. And then I got home and like everyone at the party had taken a picture with her. And I was like, oh my god. So like, I, you know, wish I had that. But, you know, I just, I'm grateful I got to meter. Yeah. So like, say thank you. All right. Um, but man, I mean, I, everyone I talked to, the day she was, I was like, I'm going to see if she died just talked about how much they cried. Yeah. I had dinner with Natalie mains that night. I was like, I cried today. She's like me too. Like, I cried today about Tim Curry, who, who passed by the day after dolly. I don't know why that got me to. And similarly, I always for years was like, I want to, there was something online, maybe on his website, you could buy like a 20 minute conversation with him on Zoom. Oh, really? Yeah, I guess he was doing that. Like, like, cameo with that type of thing. But you could, and I was always like, I'm going to do that.

I'm going to, I'm going to do that just to tell him like, yeah, and that my dad went to the stage show and, and he was in that play with my grandpa and like rock hero picture show just was so huge for me. The message of like fluidity and fun and, and he and dolly part and both have that like, twinkle in their, like a sense of fun and playfulness and, yeah, he was beloved as well. It's kind, it was kind of trippy to, because both of them were 80 and my mom's 80. Right. I've been kind of lately been like, oh, my mom is like so young to me, you know, and I felt that way with, with, you know, them. I'm just like, oh, 80, 80 feels too young. Yeah. In these times. Yeah, it's weird how that's happened. Yeah, if somebody 75 dies, people are like, so young. Yeah. I feel like it's 70. Yeah, yeah. It's like 65. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you feel, I felt like I just expected dolly to have at least another 10 years.

Mm-hmm. Yeah. Just because on, on the exterior, she's always looked so amazing. Yeah. And even in the videos they posted of her from a week before, she looked incredible. Yeah. You could tell she was a little tired. Oh, yeah. But, you know, other than that, I think it was. A huge shock. So we definitely just wanted to just rest in peace, dolly, Tim. Yeah. I was listening to an interview with Tim Curry and they said, did you ever go to one of those like Rock Your Picture Show late night screenings? Like in disguise, go and watch. Mm-hmm. You know, where people shout out and so he said he went and then they thought he was an imposter and they tried to kick him out. And then he showed his passport and said, I am Tim Curry. Yeah. But it was after that earlier he kicked him out. Oh, my God. And then she said, oh, I'm so sorry. Do you want to come back in? And then he said, I wouldn't dream of it. And then he started like cackling about those colors.

I love colors. Like a real love funny. Yeah. That is similar to a dolly story where she went to a drag show. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Guys were in drag as dolly and she entered the contest and walked across the stage and she said that she got the least amount of claps. Because you know all the drag queens look unreal. Yeah. Like the hair was crazy. The outfits were like dolly on steroids. Yeah. And dolly was just being dolly. Yeah. And she said she got like the least amount of applause. And she said on the inside she was dying, laughing. And ended up losing the dolly farting drag contest. That's like the amount of times I've lost the Chignotara roll. Just lost my box box. Just thought you would like that joke too. Thank you, Mr. Thomas. I lost my box. My box is back.

It is girl. Well, I did one of my animated HBO special called Drawn. I had a bit about listening to a dolly farting song and the bit goes very dark and gory. Oh great. And we had to ask for permission to use the song and I was scared that it wouldn't be approved because it gets very dark and gory. And apparently when they reached out to the manager, I mean who knows if this is true, but the dolly personally approves everything. Oh really? And that she approves that. That's cool. Yeah. And it's a very gory joke to her very upbeat song. So that was a fun little like oh, yeah. My friend Beth Malone has been working with Dolly on the Broadway play of Dolly's life.

And Dolly wrote it. Was there every day working on every bit of that musical? It'll still go ahead, right? I hope so. Yeah. I would think so. Yeah. More than ever. Yeah. You've got to see it. Yeah. Anyway. We love you. We love you. And Tim and Tim and all of our handsome listeners. And should we get into our question? We'll see. We're here, right? It is. We're here. It's why we're queer and people need to get used to that. That's right. Today's question asker is an Emmy nominated actor, director and producer known for movie franchises like the Hunger Games and pitch perfect as well as TV shows like 30 Rock, Mrs. America and the miniature wife Elizabeth Banks is asking today's question. Oh, you know what? What? Full circle moment. Yeah. Elizabeth was in the Spider-Man as you know.

Sammy. I do know that. Tell me where we are. I do. I was a journalist and I covered that movie premiere. And I remember very distinctly. She wasn't really known at the time. I don't believe. But seeing Elizabeth in the bathroom. You remember it. I don't know how. I remember that moment. I don't know why. You thought it was going to be big. I just remember that moment. Yeah. Can you get what it takes? In fact, I'm going to book you on my podcast down around. Hey, handsome. It's Elizabeth Banks. I have a question for you today. And the question is, what is something that you have had to love affair with that is not a person. So I'm thinking like an activity that you've loved, like your lifelong runner. And you can't live without it. Or you had a passionate quick brief affair with an animal that you just loved or with reading

or a book or a director or just like something that just juices you up and fills you with excitement that you can't wait to do. Interesting. Great question. Not a person. A thing. But it could be an animal. She says it could be an animal. Yeah. That's a really good question. Oh, man. I mean, I'm such a fan energy. Yeah. Like that's such a big part. I have such an obsessive, especially in my teens, like a really obsessive fandom of so many things. I think more like activities. I mean, I guess, I mean, this isn't the most basic forms of it, but I'm like so into espresso. You're like, you're like, so in love with espresso. I love affair with espresso. I'm excited to go to bed at night because I know I'll be waking up in the morning and I'll get to have it. Did you have to train yourself to like the taste?

So what happened was I like most people when you drink coffee at first want it so sugary sweet. Because you know, I didn't in my hometown hardly anyone drank coffee when I was growing up. Really? Yeah. And I drank coffee when I was three. Yeah. There was like no coffee shop in my hometown. Not one. What were they drinking? I don't know, but I remember some parents. Some parents. Some parents. Some of my friends parents drank it and I'd be like, oh, wow. It was not a thing like until like, and you know Starbucks that that culture didn't really take off for a while. Yeah. And then when I moved to LA, the big drink was the ice blended from coffee bean. It was like Britney Spears was drinking them and stuff. Like a cream. I mean, everything Britney did. Even walk barefoot. Everything. Famous. Like many families who were officially back to school. And that means time and energy is at a premium.

But the frappuccinos and the ice blend is what I think set off the coffee craze. It was like drinking a milkshake. And it became huge. Like coffee culture, I think, really took off from there. We're all of a sudden there were Starbucks everywhere. And it was just like a thing. Like what year are you thinking? This was like 2003. Okay. Agreed to disagree. Starbucks was popping off in Seattle. I'm talking about, you know, there were certain spots where coffee was definitely popping off. But as a whole, I think early 2000s was a lot of it. Not in your Poe Downtown. That's right. Not in my Poe Downtown. Okay. Do you like having everything about it?

Like the process, the little cup, the beans, grunt, like the, um, more just the taste. Okay. No. Am I in my grandmother drink coffee? But she only had it at like certain restaurants like, and, but that was not like an every meal kind of thing. But I just didn't, so coffee was just not part of my life. But then I got into coffee because of the sugary ice blend, it's sweet and delicious. Bright and ansage. Bright. Yeah. Me and, me and Brit, dreamer ice blend, and then I finally, um, health wise had to really, at one point, and I did that whole 30. Mm-hmm. It's all 30. I know. Or you just eat whole foods. Okay. And you have to cut out all sugar, all carbs, all. I've never done it, but I'm, I did it, um, twice. And you have to cut it out for a month, I think, all these things for 30 days. For 30 days. So I had to cut out, um, all the stuff in my coffee. So I had to drink black coffee for a month. And I was like, oh, it turns out I do like the taste.

Yeah. Of espresso. So I've never gone back. I put a little bit of oat milk in it. Yeah. And I know. A dollop? A dollop of milk. I don't add any sugar. And, uh, I think I've said on here my drink of choices and ice cortada. Yeah. And that is my love affair. Mm-hmm. I love it so much. I love seeing you. You're so happy. So happy. So happy. So happy. That just seems so happy. So happy. So happy. So happy. That just seems so happy. So happy. So happy. So happy. So happy. So happy. So happy. We were off of Frappowipas. Frappowipas. Frappowipas. That would have been... I was on a Mindy project. Because I got so... I don't know it was the end of the Mindy project because I got so fat doing the Mindy project. Don't you? We talk about my friend like that. No, I really did. Because we ate like crazy on that show. There was like two food trucks a week. They like fed us lunch. There was like jalapeno pauper's at like 10 a.m.

Oh, that's not fair. It is. And I had no self control. And was it a show where as the season went on, everybody was expanding? I guess because the costume designer would be like, so and so's added just much in their pants. This is in yeah, we're all on it. Is it telling everyone? Did you hear? I never heard of it. So and so added X amount and the pants size. And so at the end of the mini project, I was like, I have got to detox my body. So yeah, I did it. And I lost a lot of weight doing it. And I stuck to it for a while. And what year was that? I apologize. I don't know what year it was at the mini project. 2017. Oh, OK. Yeah. So that's changed my relationship. Yeah, with coffee. OK. And you have a machine at home. I do have a brevill. Because it's honestly with this economy, you guys.

Everything's so expensive. If I were to go buy coffee every day, that would be very pricey. So it does save me a lot of money, making it at home. But yeah, it's got a little tiny barista machine. It has the grinder. And you do the thing and you do the thing. And you put it in there and it's fortunate in her love affair. My dad wants us how you handle it, too. That's right. Welcome. For a minute, my dad was like a spokesperson for a coffee company. Oh, nice. And they had a mysterious man. He's so mysterious. And they said, can we make a video of you talking about how you about how coffee's like wine. And you should pair different coffees with different foods? I don't think he believes that to be true. Or also, he, at the time was a heavy smoker and very few taste buds. But he really went for it. And he was like, it sounds a little precious to talk about coffee, the way you talk about wine. But I remember the video so clearly that he was like, I might have a dark roast with a delicious piece of chocolate cake. The smell, that is.

Amazing how you describe him. That is my jam. Yes. Chocolate in coffee? Yeah, when we go out to eat, I like to have a chocolate dessert and pair it with an espresso. Yeah, decaf espresso. Well, you guys know one of my favorite desserts. Me? I forgot it. I forgot it. I forgot about it. Oh, I forgot it. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's it. Oh, I forgot it is my jam. I'm a peanut butter bitch and an avocado bitch. Yeah, you're cheating on your peanut butter with your eye. Yeah. I forgot about it. I forgot about it. No, love me some off of goto. It's just ice cream, preferably vanilla with a shot of espresso on top. Do we need merch? This says I forgot about it. I forgot about it. What is it? Forget about it? I forgot about it. Maybe. You never know. Anyway, I got very excited. That is truly a love affair because I don't get very giddy

about things like that. You're giddy. Yeah, because I get. Aren't you twirling your hair? Yeah, why is it twirling my hair? You were twirling your hair. You were a daily drunk. Yeah. And you were like, oh my god, girl. And you're just, oh, I don't think that was so scared yet. I can't remember what I was giddy about. But yeah, yeah. Take what about you? I look matching that energy. Good luck matching the. I want to see what it looks like. You have a love affair with something. Oh my gosh. You should have caught me when I first met Stephanie. That was Cuckoo Bonkertown. And you were just like clouted. I was like Tom Cruise jumping on the sofa. Yeah. I swear crossed. I can't admit. Oh my lord. You know, I was thinking, I mean, I've talked so much about, this is so boring. And this isn't what I'm going to use. But I was very, after being sick, very interested in food and like nutrition and how the body

heals itself and hurts itself. And I was studying it and I was so into it. You were going to be a naturopath, right? I was going to start. Yeah. You were doing Zoom. I was like, yeah, I was like, I think I want to start doing offering Zoom sessions and coaching people. And she's like, oh my god, you are going to make hundreds of dollars. But I would say, especially on the heels of just doing that massive hike that was ranked rigorous. Was it ranked rigorous? Yes. I missed that. Yes. Ranked rigorous. It's really good. It's really good. For your next special, it was ranked rigorous. Ranked rigorous. Ranked rigorous. It's pretty good. It reminds me of when I did long distance cycling.

Oh yeah. So into that. And I didn't have a car. And I cycled everywhere. I cycled to my standup shows. I cycled on the road. Like I performed in Portland, Oregon and then cycled to Seattle, Washington. That's why. Oh my god. And it was truly. It's a lot of cycling. Yeah. I'm patrolling you doing standup in the in like with these like bulging, micro-shock thighs. But I was so into it. I was very inspired. My uncle is a cyclist. And when I would visit my uncle in Ann, there were all these books about long distance cycling and trips you can take and training. And I'd just, you know, hanging out, visiting. I'd pull these books off the shelf. And then I was like, this looks actually so cool to just pack your little bags on your bike. Yeah. And hit the road. Yeah.

And then I found it to be very meditative. And maybe I've talked about that. I call it connecting the dots in life. Where I don't think so. And I guess it's kind of the opposite of meditation, but it still cleared my mind so much. Because I didn't listen to music. And then you got to be so present. Very much so. And I would connect the dots in my life and think about, oh, maybe I should do this. So I've, oh, this person would be good to partner with that. Maybe I should just ever, I just started connecting these dots and creating these constellations of like, ooh, this is what I want to do or this is what I want to try. And it just made me feel so good. And after I started having really bad back problems, I had to abandon it. And that's what was so nice about this past summer. I know I can't do these 50 and 100 mile bike rides anymore a day.

That's how far you were doing them a day. I was doing not every day, but when I would do a cycling trip, I'd do 50 to 100 miles a day. Right, right. And it's no joke. It does not sound like a joke. But I'm good at endurance stuff. I'm not, that's my strength. But it felt nice to kind of hand it off to this long hike to ask for. I'm super curious. Yeah. Yeah. And that feeling of accomplishment and like sort of exhaustion, but in a good way. And it's a bet. And it's challenging myself. Yeah. Like the competing against other people that doesn't drive me. Yeah. I'm not like, how fast did you or how many miles or. Yeah. And I'm really like what I'm doing is what would drive me with that. And I can't claim that even though I do hike regularly, I can't claim that hiking has taken the place because biking was really what made my heart and soul saying.

But I do love hiking. And I'm very excited about the plan that I have with my friends to pick a beautiful spot around the world every year and go just take these long tracks and see gorgeous things and have great conversations. That's, that's I guess. That's the new love affair. Oh, like do you do you miss the cycling though? I don't at all. Oh, interesting. It had a time. It had a time. It totally had a time. It gave you what you needed at the time and then. It's same with like I used to play guitar. And I was very in love with playing guitar and drums. And I find it fun and I'm interested to do it here and there. But when I think of cycling, 100 miles a day for like a week, I'm like, what the hell? So we four, I can't even fathom that many miles. Whereas like a yearly one week track, where you're walking maybe 10 miles a day or something.

I can't quite figure out like marathon runners and stuff. Part of me is like, what are you running from? Kind of like they're like, when they're, they're like bleeding from their nepholes and stuff. Like they get so hurt. And they're so hurt. And they're so hurt. And she's in the pants as they run. Yeah. Like, and isn't the word marathon comes from the guy in ancient Greece who ran to tell them the Spartans are coming or something? A ran the length of a marathon and then they found no idea about my back. And the word comes from then his heart exploded after he gave the news. It's like, this is not a good length to be running. No, no. And I don't want that kind of intensity. Yeah. This hike was rigorous and I'm glad I did it and I don't need to do it again. Yeah. And that's what inspired the, you know what? Flat walks. Yeah. Past beautiful waterfalls and cliffs. Oh, yeah. There you go. I mean, I'm totally in. Yeah. Once a year for that. Yeah. And yeah, cycle for a hundred miles. Anyway, that was an old love of a family.

I've been trying to like listen, but also I've been going, I've been frantically trying to think about like, I mean, comedies of big one or I mean, my fandoms are such like flag posts in my life. And when you say comedy, is it more stand up or improv or? Well, these days, I don't know if I'm. It was always, it was more like the green room. It was more like the atmosphere and being there and connection. Yeah. And in my teens, I did a lot of weird characters and improv and yeah, stand up when it's. I've never been, had a love affair with like, going to clubs and doing a 20 minute set. I'm not good at it. And what do you mean? I just don't have short jokes and it's, I guess because it was the early 2000s, I like the atmosphere felt scary. When coffee was taking off. When coffee was first discovered in America, real coffee boom in the early 2000s. My in Britain, he started it.

What I actually want to say is weed, but I, that I had a love affair with where I, I mean, and then now looking back, I'm like, was I self-medicating and I find other ways to do that now. But when I first smoked weed, I was like, this is. I'm home. I, yeah, I was like, I went to see dark side of Oz with the pink Floyd and they showed Wizard of Oz. And you could smoke weed inside in the theater. And I was like, nothing has ever been more beautiful. And then it felt like just such a like paradigm shifting thing and I would have done anything for it. And I was so into the paraphernalia and the smell of it and the, the process and the, the like oral fixation of like rolling and so I like I really was so passionate about it. And not in a, not in a great way, but I really, so maybe does that, I mean, it was just talking about the love affair. Do you still smoke weed? I just love the affair. I, I did not smoke weed for a long time.

And then now I don't really. That sounds like maybe a deal. No, I don't. I don't, I don't. I just don't have a rule for myself of like never. Yeah. Yeah. I, I'll never feel like I did in my teens with that. I mean, and looking back, it was, it ended up being so disruptive to my life. And, but also it really saved me from harder drugs like when I stopped doing coke, I think I wouldn't have been able to stop without weed. It was like, did you have a coke nail? Never. I would never have a coke nail and I do think that's a red flag. For a deeper, more serious problem. Yeah. Yeah. I really was, I, it was, I got into coke so young and then, and then weed felt like a much softer kind of sillier. Mm-hmm. Especially after having a coke addiction, not eating and just like, and then weed is like, I just want to eat cake with my friends and play Super Mario and have espresso with that cake maybe? Oh, delicious. Mm-hmm. And then tip your coke in.

Oh, okay. You're gonna eat coke in. You're gonna eat coke in, right? Yeah. I think I'll gain, binky. I don't know. I have any other. I've never seen it. I've seen it for sure. I like so many drugs. Oh, good. I don't know. I'm still cutting it. I've seen it but never done it. I feel like too busy cycling. Yeah, you're fine. It's similar to connecting spots in life. Yeah, it's just a third part. I just was a bit more talker. I mean, apparently a lot of people with ADHD self-medicated in their teens with stimulants, I felt like I was in the room for the first time ever. But I think so many drugs, especially in California. It's like there's a culture around them where it's like you can use them as tools to, you know, and people do mushroom. Like the micro dosing and stuff? Coke has no therapeutic benefits, I think. I'm like, well, now it's only so bad for me. Now it's so dangerous with the soda. So dangerous. I can't even imagine even dabbling in it.

The cartels and like there's just no reason to do it and just makes people so insufferable and... Coke makes people insuffer? Oh, yeah. Yeah, so I'm going to say weed, but the love affair is over. Yeah. Yeah. Y'all's love affair have ended. Years is on guns. Continuing. You're in a long-term love affair. I forgot about it. Oh my gosh, you guys. Should we hear what Elizabeth has to say? Yeah, let's do it. So for me, I'm in a... I've had a bunch of love affairs with, you know, various things and ideas and movements and... But right now I am in a passionate love affair with Ma-ja. It's like all I heard. And I'm not doing it. I'm thinking about when can I do it next? It's... I love like a lady's weekend where all we do is heat and wear pajamas and drink a little bit and play Ma-ja.

I love teaching it to people. I want other people to be... I will teach you guys if you want. Yeah. So yeah, I'm obsessed with... Put it on the left. And I'm not new to it just to say I've been playing it for a little while. So I know it's like all the rage right now. And I feel like part of... I've partially been about it for a while. Like it is real, real fun and something that I just love doing. So... Oh, now... Okay, we got to put on the list. It's like a big thing right now. I keep thinking about it all the time. What is it? Ma-jaung is a Chinese board game. That's all I know. Thank you, mate. Let's go to commercial. You seem like you were really gonna come up. I thought of some in the line. I thought it was gonna come up. I thought of a board game. Yeah, because I saw... I can picture it. I learned about it from the movie Crazy Rich Asians. Okay. And it's been popular forever in Asian cultures obviously.

But for whatever reason currently it's like all the rage. People are playing it. But I don't know how. I guess because Elizabeth Banks is playing it with everyone. I can see she's teaching everyone. I would like to learn how to play. I would love to learn. I have a set. Matt's wife bought me a set from China. Oh, very cool. I can't believe I said weed and I should have said foosball. That's what I have. Calluses from playing for hours every day. I'm so excited. Yeah, it's too late. We can not go back. We can not go back. We can't go back. It's foosball. It is foosball. Oh man, I love it. Yeah. I guess very... How about Matt's ball while you're on weed? Yeah. Do you know Kelsey Cook? No. Very funny comedian. Her Netflix special just dropped recently. I think I saw the ad for it. Her mom was a champion foosball player and Kelsey is very good. I'm not a real girl. I'm a real Kelsey lives now in Minneapolis. But she tours all the time. So at some point she'll be an LA.

There's a foosball culture. It's too late. It's too late. It's too late. I've got some of you say, yeah. No, go ahead, say it. Well, I went to a bar to play with Matt. Usually we just play at my house and then this guy with long hair came up and was like, what are you playing? You're playing foos. And he played completely differently to us. I would trap the ball. Then he'd position all his guys like the game would sort of grind to a halt. Oh no. And then he'd just do a move like that. But it was very fun. No. No, that's so annoying. Yeah. Yeah. I play foosball like an insane person. I was like, I want to play with you. What? I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, Yeah, let's play. Yeah. Yeah. Oh. What a podcast. What a podcast. What a podcast. What a podcast.

What a podcast. We did it again. We did it. We're always doing it. Yeah. I gotta look up my stand-up dates. Oh yeah. I would, I have eight text messages waiting on me. All from Thomas. Oh my goodness. Well, I know I just added a bunch of shows in coming up. And then coming up in Morgan to North Carolina October 4th. Oh. And then I added Jacksonville, Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I added Chosen Palm Springs in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. But I also have coming up Chattanooga to the seat, Dayton, Ohio, Louisville, Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, Oakland, and the Lakers field and Los Angeles. Those are the shows in Denver. I have two shows to plug. The first one, September 16th, I'm at Largo in LA. I'm really going to put some prep into this one.

We've got exciting guests. I'm going to do some music. It's going to be a really special one. And then September 19th, I'm at UCB doing improv with Matt and Atlanta Johnston. And that'll be live streamed as well. Wonderful. Those are my two shows. I will be in Cincinnati, Charleston, West Virginia, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Chico, California, Olympia, Washington, Fresno, Napa, Wilmington, Delaware, Terrytown, New York, New London, Connecticut, Colorado Springs. That is one of the rescheduled shows. Personal stuff came up in my life that I really apologize to these Colorado people. It's so annoying that that happened. And I understand, but trust me, I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have to. Steamboat springs, basalt, and the list goes on and on forever because I'm comedian. That's right. You know what I say?

When does your tour end? I'm like, never. It doesn't. It does not end. But I am, you know, as you know, I've scaled back to like a couple of shows a month and it feels good. Good. And if you enjoyed this episode and I know you did, please share it with your loved ones and help us build this community. It is so, so handsome.
