Hey guys, fly on the walls back for another season. That's right. On audio and video every Monday and Thursday. Follow and listen to fly on the wall everywhere you get your podcasts. Alright, if you want to weigh in, 301230980, buy something, sell something, NFL related, a team player, anything else. So I've already bought the Las Vegas Raiders as a team that I do think is legit good. Now I want to make one thing clear. Do I think Buffalo's better, you know, the Ravens are better, the chiefs are better, the Jags are better in the AFC? I do. I just think that there is going to be some contention late in the season and games that are meaningful for, you know, either the division, a race, but more likely than not, you know, the six or seven seed in the AFC. Because you can already start to look at some of these teams like the chargers who are expected to be in the mix.
It's a loaded AFC, but the Patriots and chargers with the way they started, you know, you're going to end up with three of the seven teams that, you know, in the postseason that weren't supposed to be there. And I think the Raiders are potentially one of those teams this year. I'm buying right now the one and two Atlanta Falcons to be a legitimate contender in the AFC South. They started O&2. They won that game at Green Bay on Thursday night. Penex Jr. looked awesome, but it's more than, than, you know, Bijon and what I think about some of their skilled position players offensively. Because I'll tell you right now the combination of Bijon Robinson and then Drake London. You've got one of the best receivers and in my opinion, the best running back on the exact same team. You've got to have better quarterback play and Penex Jr. showed that he can sling it. There is no doubt the dude can throw it. Of course, him staying upright and healthy is crucial.
They've got a good offensive line. They have a tight end that's talented in Kyle Pits, but it's really their defense. They became a good defensive football team at the end of last year. And they won a bunch of games towards the end of last year. And it was a rough start with Cooper Rush. I'm actually surprised Cooper Rush played as poorly as he did in the first two games. He was terrible, but I like the Atlanta Falcons roster. And I think Kevin Stofansky is a good NFL coach. He won coach of the year twice in Cleveland, but he also was in Cleveland. He's in a better situation. The key is Penex Jr. staying upright, continuing to develop into a legitimate starting NFL quarterback. Because that roster is pretty good. And that division, especially with Tampa getting off to a 0-1-3 start and with Mayfield missing the next three games, that division is totally up for grabs.
I like the Falcons to be there at the end with perhaps, you know, a nine and eight record and maybe a top. The NFC South. What else are you buying, Max? Um, so this is a little bit of a weird one. Did you see the two point play in Denver and LA on Sunday night where jail, the bone x through a dot right over the head of the defender? Yeah. I am buying guardian caps for my entire defense. And I'm telling them that they have to play with them because this throw was so tight that if a guardian cap was being worn by the player in coverage, it would have bounced right off. So I need my defensive players to take up as much space. I feel this problem at the situation. Yes. So I'm buying guardian caps for everyone on defense from here on out. I mean, it still looks odd. Sure. But competitive advantage though. Obviously the safety, the safety of the players are important. It's interesting to see which players decide to wear them and which players decide not to.
Some of the players wearing them have never had concussion issues. Others have. Yeah. It still is tough to get, you know, used to, but it's important for the players. If they feel like it certainly adds to their safety. All right. I got a couple of cells today. My first cell and trust me, I'm not selling them from the playoffs. But I don't think Buffalo's a totally well-rounded football team. And I don't think that they're going to be. I don't think this is their year. You know, and then we'll talk about whether the windows closing and all of that. Are there three and no? Um, they, they turn the ball over five times against the charger defense defensively. They're not very good. In fact, I actually kind of like the Patriots Sunday to bounce back and Drake made a have his first decent game since last regular season. Because Buffalo defensively is not very good.
Uh, I think the bills are certainly in that division right now. The favorite they should be. Uh, but I don't think there is good as Kansas City. I don't think there is good as Denver. I don't think there is good as Jacksonville. I don't know that there is good as Houston in terms of what Houston could eventually become. And I think you think they're going to become it and I do too. I've not given up on the Texans. I don't think there is good as the Ravens. I'm selling Buffalo's chances to be, you know, a deep, deep into the postseason team. I don't think they've got the roster for it compared to other AFC teams. I'll tell you who's got the roster for it in terms of the complete roster. Jacksonville does. Jacksonville may be the most well-rounded team in the AFC. I'm selling the bills from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender, even though I believe they are currently the favorites. Go ahead.
What are you selling? Right now, I'm selling the Niners. They ain't playing nobody, Paul. Yeah, but okay. I'm selling public perception of the Niners. They played the Miami and Arizona the last two weeks. Yeah. They played the Rams in Australia, which is kind of fluky. Things are going to get a lot tougher. And like we talked about. They're getting injured, right? Yeah, they're still getting injured. The substation is still at large. And I mean, right now Brock Purti looks like an MVP candidate, but I think we're going to get a little bit of a Baker Mayfield style. At least from last year, fall off towards the middle towards the end of the season. Okay. So the other sell for me is I'm still not sold on the Minnesota Vikings at three in a. This is such an interesting situation in Minnesota. They have right now one of the they have the best defense in the NFL advanced numbers, traditional numbers.
It's an interesting defense for sure because it's not the most gifted or most talented, but it's clearly one of the best coached defenses. Brian Flores is just wreaking havoc across the league. I am going to be interested to see what happens down the road when they, you know, they've faced Jordan Love and they've faced Caleb Williams. He's been really, really good, but they do have games against the bills and the lions. Obviously the lions twice the 49ers are on the schedule. And look, that division right now Detroit's defense stinks green Bay's in shambles and Chicago's banged up. We'll see how they do. But I'm not a believer in a team winning a division outright without a quarterback. Can you be a five or a six or a seven seed, one of the three wild card teams without a quarterback? Sure. Can you even win a playoff game without a quarterback? Sure. They don't have a quarterback. They're three and a without a quarterback.
I don't see Kyler Murray or Carson Wentz leading Minnesota to 15 wins, 14 wins in a one seed. I could see them finishing, you know, with 11 wins, 12 wins in being the runner up in the division or being the two or three seed. But I don't see him as a legitimate Super Bowl contender, a legitimate deep into the NFC playoff contender. And I think the whole Minnesota situation of quarterback is so interesting. They don't have a quarterback under contract for next year. And they have right now a Super Bowl defense. And if they continue, they have the 30 second ranked offense in the NFL and yards per play. If that continues, what are they going to do? What if they, like I'm looking at their schedule right now? Okay, they have the dolphins this week. They're 11 and a half point favorites. Anything can happen in the NFL.
But very likely they're going to be 4-0. And then they've got New Orleans and Indianapolis the following two weeks. Well, five and one. What if they're five and one with still a terrible offensive football team with guys like Justin Jefferson on the team? What are they going to do at quarterback? I mean, who can you go get? Can you trade for Jacobi Berset if the Cardinals are one in five, six weeks into the season? Because Berset would be a major upgrade over what they have. And by the way, he would be coming from a Michael Fler situation into a Kevin O'Connell Sean McVeigh situation, La Fler situation. He'd be comfortable with the offense. But that situation in Minnesota is so interesting because this upcoming off season, Mac Jones, here's the problem with Minnesota. They're not going to end up with a high pick because they're going to win double digit games with that defense. So they're not going to end up with a high pick and be able to swing and miss maybe again on quarterback.
They're going to have to go out and either mid season this season get a veteran quarterback that they can end up signing next year. Or in the off season, it's Mac Jones, it's Joe Flacco, it's Kirk Cousins in a return. If the Raiders decide, you know, hey, the nine wins we got this year and the contention for the wild card spot was great. Fernando's the starter next year. The Minnesota situation, they have a super bowl defense. And they are bottom in the league, essentially offensively in yards per play. So I'm selling the Vikings from being any kind of legitimate contender in the NFC subject to change. We'll see what they do at quarterback because at the cardinal start losing games, a brisette would be a great ad to that Minnesota team. A geno Smith would be a great ad if the jets get to one in five, one in six, but they've been much more competitive. Put brisette or geno Smith on that team and now you're talking about a super bowl contender.
Kyler, Marie Carson, went, I don't see it. What else are you selling? Anything else? Max. All right. Let's get to some calls. Let's go wreck. NDC wreck. Go ahead. What are you buying? What are you selling? Well, I'm buying Marcus Marriott, a band I started in quarterback. It led in Jaden Daniels, rest and rehabilitated elbow. Number one, he shouldn't have made the trip. That's why you have two other backup quarterbacks. He's our structure and he's our franchise quarterback. So why haven't we just having him as a backup? So I'm buying Marcus Murray, Yoda. I'm buying our defense, which you say Minnesota's super bowl contender and column Murray.
Yeah, super bowl. I apologize. But I like column Murray. Colum Murray to me is a better quarterback than Jacobin Brisette. He's more mobile and he's a good accurate quarterback. So no, I think they can win with column Murray if he stays healthy enough. And the same thing with Michael Penix, I'm buying on him if he can stay healthy. I mean, he's a winning quarterback as well. They have a great team in Atlanta. And I love Kevin, Kevin Stephanski, how would you pronounce this last name? So yes. Okay. That's my buy. I think I totally agree with you on Penix. I think he's still somebody worth watching. He's got to stay healthy. I mean, that's been his issue in college and in the pros. And if he doesn't, it's going to be a what if situation. I disagree with you on Kyler Murray. I think if Kyler Murray was really a legitimate, you know, full time starting quarterback.
There would have been a lot more interest in him. And he might still be in Arizona instead of Jacobin Brisette. I take Brisette over Kyler Murray every day of the week. And I would take you know, Smith over Kyler Murray. I just think five foot, you know, seven inch, five foot eight inch quarterbacks. It's really, really hard. And as far as Mario to goes, look, I am 100% with all of you who say, if Jaden Daniels needs more time to heal, then of course, he should be given the time to heal. I don't want him rushed back if his elbow is in 100%. It's got to be a hundred. I mean, the medical people have to say there's legitimately no real additional benefit that he's going to get by waiting another week or two. If that's the message, he is starting Sunday against the Colts period. He's your best quarterback. He's your starting quarterback. If, hey, there's some benefit. If you guys wait another week or two, that thing's going to get healed up and it's going to be better for him, both short term long term.
Well, then he's not playing. He's sitting. He's ruled out, not being a backup, not being anything. I hope that that's the mindset. The idea, I just cannot wrap my head around the idea of he's ready to go, but we're going to put him in a backup role. No, if he's ready to go, he plays period for me. Let's go to Jeff in Vienna. Jeff, what are you buying? What are you selling? NFL wise. A lot of things to say, Kevin. Much like the 12th and on the field on the kickoff, I'm buying the lead quickly banning the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line, leg lift technique on the nose guards. Explain to me what you're talking about. I don't know what you're talking about. Watch the film from last Sunday of how they played Dexter Lawrence. As soon as the ball was snapped, they lifted one leg off the ground and held him. It's all over the internet. At a minimum, it's a hold. At a maximum, you're going to injure somebody who's that big and they did it the whole game and they got away with it.
Yeah, I'm looking at it right now. Interesting. The title of it is New Technique or illegal. But they absolutely rendered Dexter Lawrence as a player who didn't have much of an impact on the game. Okay, got it. Thank you for introducing me to that. What else you got? That was it. That's all. Thanks. Appreciate it, Jeff. Let's go to Mark and Largo. Mark, go ahead. Look, Kevin, I mean you were brothers on this. I'm buying Tayden Daniels being the quarterback with Sunday. And then, dammit, I'm doing this more because of that first call and Jamie Udall who got on NFL Network this morning and said the most idiotic thing that I've ever heard. James Daniels arm is going to be strad to his rib cage. Look at James James arm right now. What did they say? Sorry. I said what? NFL Network was sitting up this saying they're comparing Marcus Mario to numbers to James.
And I'm sitting up this animal. Hello everybody. If we didn't get those return on this, we don't win the game. But no one wants to talk about that. Kevin. That's your favorite line. Your favorite line is nobody wants to talk about that. I think that three turnovers was the thing that everybody talked about. That was the reason they won the game and everybody that watched the game said that. So the idea that nobody wants to talk about the three turnovers being the decisive part of the game is I tell you what I tell you what pull up this kid with pull up this kid with NFL Network said this morning about James Daniels just pulling up. Max find it for what you're off. But what what what was it again? Something about his arm being taped to his rib cage? Yeah, his arm is going to be taped to the damn rib cage. I think I'm going to be able to pat hand the ball off the desire to take to the rib cage. And I'm going to say something that's going to piss a lot of women off. But this is the reason why a lot of men do not like women on sports and you don't know what you're talking about.
Who said it? I don't know who you better know what you're talking about. Okay, well that can be another subject for another day. But who was the woman who said it? I don't know. I love what's her face. James Daniels. She's on NFL Network. Jamie. He's a hostess. Okay. Yeah, see, and the only reason why she said what she said was because Kyle Brent wasn't there today. Kyle, I like him. I like him. He's good. I like Kyle Brent. He keeps the order on that damn show. I don't watch this show. But she goes, but wow. What's K Adams on? Max? What's she on now? Fan duel. Yeah. She's good. She's fun for sure. All right. Mark, thank you for that. That's his move in that nobody wants to talk about it, Kevin. Nobody wants to talk about the three turnovers on Sunday. That's all anybody was talking about after the game.
I think I can't imagine that you watch that game and said that the three turnovers weren't the number one reason they won the football game. Of course they were one less and they lose the game. Plus two, they lose the game. Plus three, they won by two. All right. Who's this last one? Jerry? Jerry, go ahead. Jerry Joe. Jerry Joe. Jerry Joe. Go ahead. What's up? What's up? What's up? You got me? I got you. What are you buying? What are you selling? I think Austin Eckler. What? All of a sudden back. Man, that's great. All right. That's going to definitely add some excitement to the passing game. And yeah, the running backs. But now I've been thinking about this. Marcus Mario to start. We tell him he's starting. Jayla is the backup and they just pan on his face about second quarter and just watch him bite in his lip and tap at his foot.
And then they just bring him in and he lights it up for 50. How about that? I'm hanging up and listening to fake. I mean, if that's the result, I'll take it. I mean, I don't know why you would do that. But if you're, if that's the result and that's the, the vision that you have, I'm all in on it. The sunny styles named NFC defensive player of the week. The 39th time a Washington player has received the NFC defensive player of the week honor since the awards inception in 1984. The styles is the first Washington player to earn the honor since Ryan Carrigan won the award week one of the 2020 season. And the first linebacker to win the award for the team since Keenan Robinson won the award in week seven back in 2014. The first rookie defensive player in Washington history since Brian or Rackpo did it in 2009.
Sonny styles was outstanding Sunday and he gets recognized as the NFC defensive player of the week. That's not the NFC defensive rookie of the week. The NFC defensive player of the week goes to sunny styles. Another result that came out of Sunday's game was people talking about one of the two coordinators and what his next job might be. So the win over Seattle with a backup quarterback even though that backup quarterback was Marcus Mario to got some people in the business talking about the new offensive coordinator David blow this was Phil Sims and Mike Florio and pro football talk suggesting that blow could become a head coaching candidate in 2027. I got to go with the commanders you're taking on this incredible defense yeah the saddlesy hawks and Marcus Mario to step in and it's the backup quarterback nobody expected much of anything and it was this epic back and forth like like I couldn't believe how exciting it was and David blow got a lot of love for Mike Tom on half time at the Sunday night game David blow the offense coordinator you have a few more games like that.
We're going to be talking about David blow is the youngest head coach in the NFL. Yeah, maybe I mean that that was impressive. There's no doubt Mario to look really good. The that David blow Mario to becoming the captain for the year which is an odd thing I don't even know what to make of that all interesting when you talk about Washington. I know what to make of it. Yeah, what do you make of it? Take your time. Take your time. Yeah. Yeah, or if you take too much time take take the rest of the season. God man, thanks Florio. Yeah, that's going to happen. Yeah, Marcus Mario to Jaden were no surgery. No injury reserve. We're just going to keep you as kind of the backup third stringer for the rest of the year idiotic. Yeah, already talk of blower after by the way, blower after one week or even after two who knows after beating Seattle and it was impressive. I loved a lot of the stuff.
I loved the quick game. I loved just the idea that blower understood how to game plan around what was kind of a mismatch in the trenches. You know, it makes shift offensive line against one of the best D lines in the league and they had, you know, the ability to move the ball not, you know, all day long. They didn't generate a lot of yardage offensively, but two big chunk plays were there for Deami Brown and Terry McClaurren. They just couldn't get the feet down. That would have certainly added to the day. Look, blower was a guy that was sought after after he was the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2024. Okay, so we've known this about him. He still has to do it. He still has to get results. You know, the kind of results that everybody says, well, you know, obviously they are going to be a lot more difficult to do. Obviously, they won 11 games and this guy is the next guy, you know, off of the Ben Johnson tree.
He's got a lot more to go. You know, I was looking at when you told me that that for you and Sim said this, you know, there are some names already. First of all, you're going to have guys like Mike Tomlin and Sean McDermott, you know, available next year. You know, and I think a lot of people believe that Tomlin's going to coach again. I don't know if you will or won't. And I think a lot of people believe that Sean McDermott could get a job again as, you know, guys that were Tomlin, you know, leaving the situation, but perhaps wanting to get back. But you're going to have a lot of these coordinators already with the way some of these offenses. Clay Kubiak is the OC for Kyle in San Francisco. Clint Kubiak last year in Seattle with the champs. Clay Kubiak, his younger brother, all Gary Kubiak's sons. Gary Kubiak, you know, long time head coach, long time assistant, you know, off the Mike Shanahan tree. He's getting a lot of talk already through three weeks. Like look at what Clint's doing in Vegas and look at what the Niners are doing.
And then the guy, Declan Doyle, who, you know, went to Baltimore, there's going to be a lot of talk about him. There's going to be a lot of talk about the Broncos OC. Remember after the first game, it's like, uh oh, Sean Payton's going to take the play calling back from Davis Web. Now after the last two weeks, Davis Web is going to be a head coach. And I do think the most interesting coaching candidate for 2027. And it's going to depend on whether or not teams have him off the list of can't touch because of his situation with the league. But Brian Flores, you would think at some point, just for an organization that says, I don't care that he sued the league. I don't care that he made these allegations. I don't care what happened here. The dude can just flat out coach and lead. Now there was a lot of discussion about how things went south in Miami when he was the head coach. And maybe people view him as just a coordinator, a damn good one.
I think that's always an interesting one to consider as well. David Blau, already making the lists of potential 2027 head coaching candidates. The youngest coach in the league is Joe Brady, the new head coach in Buffalo. He's 37. Blau is how old? Blau is what 34? Is that how old he is? Something like that. He would be the youngest coach. He's 31 31. Wow. Yeah, he'd be the youngest if he got the job. All right. When we come back, there was something Dan Quinn said today that had nothing to do with the current status of injured players or the preparation for the Indianapolis game. But I loved the question because I think these are interesting questions to ask those who are in the arena as coaches and players.
I'll share this with you when we come back because I've got some thoughts on it too. Kevin Sheen showed the team 980 and the team 980.com. Hey there, it's Jill Slesinger. I'm launching a brand new show. It's called Money Moves. Follow and listen wherever you get your podcasts. And as far as your run deep is they've done really well over the first three games. They face another runner in Jonathan Teller. What do you like about what you're seeing as far as your run defense over these last three weeks? Yeah, I like what I'm seeing from the big guys. It's Ken Law and Pain and Settle and Tuddle and those. It's building a wall out on the edges with the outside backers. We've seen that from them and that's going to be like at the top of the priority. Jonathan, their offensive line to tight ends. They've done a good job in the run game and their run actions through the year. Shanes had that background from Indy, from Philly, from Chargers. So this is a successful coach in that way that really has understanding in the run game and the run actions and that's the priority.
Yeah, big test Sunday for this rush defense that is number one in the NFL per the DVOA metric through three weeks. It's been a long time since Washington ranked number one in anything per any real number, traditional or advanced. Currently, the DVOA Aaron Shatz's DVOA metric has Washington is the number one rush defense in the league. They're the number three rush defense in yards allowed per game. Now they are 12th in yards per carry. Sixth in EPA expected points added as a rush defense in the NFL. So some really good signs about the rush defense here through three weeks. But again, as I mentioned yesterday and maybe even the day before, I would just, you know, I wouldn't start celebrating the best run defense or one of the best run defenses in the NFL quite yet.
Dallas and Seattle didn't even try to run the football because they were so successful and felt so comfortable just playing pitch and catch throwing it. So the Colts are going to try to establish the run. They're going to try to make Jonathan Taylor a big factor in the game. They will be intent on trying to run the football. If you see the Colts come out and ignore the run, that would be surprising to me. That would perhaps be a reason that you could say, yeah, they don't want to go against this defensive front or the other side of it would be, yeah, they saw the same thing that Dallas and Seattle saw, which is they can't stop us from throwing the football. We can throw the football all over the field. Josh Downs, Tyler Warren, you know, Jonathan Taylor out of the backfield doesn't matter. But this would be, you know, the biggest test rush defense wise since week one and they did a good job against Barclay with the exception of the one 42 yard run.
All right. So by the way, Marcus Mario to addressing the media right now, if anything comes out of that, we will share that with you. I did also just want to mention that John Kym wrote a story after Quinn spoke this morning in London and, you know, he's, Kym mentioned two things that I don't think we've talked about. Number one is a quote from Quinn, we won't put him out there before he's ready, you know, which of course, I don't think anybody wants him out there before he's ready. They're trusting the process him being back on the field will be a good step for us, but we're not putting him back out there until he's ready cleared medically. And then the other thing Kym, this was a Kym commenting on that the brace on his left arm and we've seen some of the video and I tweeted out retweeted reposted a Nikki Javala video from earlier. John described the brace leaving his arm slightly bent. And what we know about that potentially is what the orthopedic surgeon told us last week about the braces and what they can do with the braces and how these settings of the braces can, you know, impact the mobility of the elbow and he suggested that they should set it so that the left arm can't be extended fully because the elbow gets dislocated more times than not when the arm is extended fully.
And you come down on that arm extended fully it's if it's at an angle of 30 degree angle or whatever the angle would be there's much less chance of the elbow dislocating. So I do wonder with a brace that leaves the arm slightly bent and not being able to extend out fully maybe wrong, but if that's the case, you know, does the playbook have to be altered a bit. What do you deal with those left handed play fakes those left handed zone outside zone runs or play fakes where you're stretching that left arm out you guys understand that outside zone run that quarterback under center he is reaching out to try to hand the ball off as the runners already out near the tackle at that point. Yeah, some of those things so totally off the subject of the game itself Dan Quinn was asked by an I don't know who asked this question I did not recognize the voice David Harrison maybe max who was it David Harrison WSA 9 and locked on commanders.
Oh, okay David Harrison from channel nine asked the question. It's an interesting question he's talking about and you'll hear the question, but essentially it's you know players that have the clutch gene that we all talk about his fans is that something they have innately or can it be developed. So you'll hear the question and then Dan Quinn's answer. Good afternoon coach. Yeah, David Harrison WSA 9 locked on. We've heard the clutch gene discuss a lot of times mostly media. Do you believe that clutch is something that a person is or is something that a player can learn to become. I think it's a lot like leadership. It is something that you can be developed with, but you do have to be in those environments and stressful spots to feel comfortable doing that. And we try to make those as at practice as much as we can. So when we do get into the game, those feel more normal. Are they exactly the same? No, but when you see a guy like Terry go up for it or you know on a fourth down target, it's not by accident that he's able to deliver into those spots because of the work that he's put in.
And so I think there's some trust David that goes along with that knowing when those moments come, I kind of lean into them. The best competitors do that almost to a fault like they wanted every plane. That is a good thing. And so when you want the ball on your hands or make the play in that spot. So I think it's something to be developed, but it does come from confidence in the work knowing that like you're really ready to deliver into that spot. And how much of that development can be driven by the player themselves. Obviously to kind of have that drive to become. Let it run too long. My fault. That's okay. There is a second part to that. I do want to hear the answer to that. I think that's these conversations are always interesting. I am a big believer that this isn't the subject. It's a separate subject. Clutch gene. And then the idea that you can be the killer competitors. You know, the Michael Jordan's the Kobe Bryant's the the the players that you just are born naturally to be killer competitive hate to lose personalities.
I've always felt like that is truly innate. Sure, you can develop into a better competitor, you know, with more experience with more development with more of an understanding. But the killer gene to me is innate. The clutch gene, Quintness saying is less innate and more developed and more of a product of being in those situations over and over again. And then by the way, having some success that builds confidence in those situations. So, you know, is it chicken egg? It's it's probably more about, you know, Jordan and Montana and L.A. and Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods being in those situations. So many times before they were fully formed almost and succeeding and then the confidence comes from the success that you've already had there.
I think that's kind of what Quinn was was trying to say. So it is perhaps more developed than just innate. There is a personality trait that you don't care what the result is. You don't care what people are going to say about it that enables you to play freely, perform freely without any level of concern about what the reaction will be to the result. You know, a player that comes to mind for me all the time and I've talked about this forever. It is very obvious over the course of his career in watching Joe Flacco play quarterback that he could not care less about what people think about the result. Whatever it is, he plays so freely in the highest pressure moments of his career. And by the way, he's failed many times in that spot, but it never seems to bother him. It never affects the next one.
Some of that to me is innate personality. But anyway, there was a follow up question from David Harris, David Harrison from Channel 9 after Quinn's answer. Here it was. And how much of that development can be driven by the player themselves? Obviously, to kind of have that drive to become that guy and how much of that can come from the position coaches. I think belief is a powerful part of that. We all need it, you know, whether it's a ball player or coach to say this is something that you can really nail. But it's up to the coaches to provide the environment for that work to take place. When you start doing that in practice and you kind of get known for that and you deliver on it again and again, then you can really demonstrate that to say. When this time comes, this is the person we need for this job. And it does take time. It's not a one time thing. It's over and over, but the more you deliver on it, kind of the stronger and more confident that you grow. That's so true, right? I mean, in any aspect of life, I bet many of you can I sort of identify with what Quinn said.
It's that you have the belief because others around you have that belief because you did get it done once or twice. You know, again, it's probably more chicken than egg. It's like you were in that situation and you succeeded for whatever reason. It's because you were really talented. You were really prepared, whatever it was. And then that just snowballs into a belief of, oh, I'm going to deliver in the situation and everybody around me knows in this situation I'm going to deliver. It's an interesting part of sports. It's an interesting part of life really in a lot of different situations. Just belief confidence, et cetera, and how far that can carry you. You know, even when you're not the most gifted or the most talented, interesting conversation. I don't know why David what sparked it. I'm sure he's writing something or going to do a feature on it.
But yeah, I mean, I think about, you know, our players on this team, you know, Jaden is a clutch gene performer. He is delivered over and over during his football playing life in clutch moments. And we saw it in his rookie year and there's tremendous belief that with the game on the line, he can get it done. You know, that he can get it done. And look, if the shovel pass wasn't the option on the two point conversion, I bet he would have delivered with a better play. But David Blau, two weeks later, is a head coaching candidate. That's the way the NFL works. All right, tomorrow, Sharch will join us. Denton will join us. We'll have more information after another practice, but maybe not the final call on quarterback on Sunday.
