0:00Hey kids, welcome to Junior's for Jesus. Go grab your Bibles. We're gonna be digging in and learning some really exciting stories. Let's get started. In Luke chapter 13, when Jesus was teaching in the synagogues, he noticed a woman that needed to be healed. Now Jesus was very aware of the made up rules that would have told this woman to go home and returned tomorrow to find healing, seein' as how it was on the Sabbath. But Jesus also knew that he had the power to heal this woman, that very instant. And so unwilling to let her go another moment in her condition. He sprung into action and set off a flurry of events that require our careful consideration. But first, we need to discover the memory verse again for this week from Matthew, chapter 10 verses 38 and 39. He who does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

1:07Monday, healing on the Sabbath, Luke 13 verses 10 through 17. It was the Sabbath and Jesus was teaching in a synagogue somewhere in Peria. The ruler of the synagogue was watching and listening very carefully to what the rabbi was saying. When Jesus saw a woman in the audience who was bent over, his heart of pity and love went out to her. He knew the made up rules about helping people like her on the Sabbath. But instead, he asked her to come to him. Now Jesus knew that the ruler of the synagogue believed in all these man-made rules. And one of those rules said that a person with an emergency problem could be given a little help on the Sabbath. But someone who had a problem for a long time, they should wait until the Sabbath was passed to be healed. But that wasn't the way that Jesus treated people. The poor woman had been bent over for 18 years. And even though Jesus knew that he was being watched,

2:10he wasn't going to let her suffer for another moment. He purposefully didn't let that stop him from healing her. When she went to him and he laid his hands on her, he said, woman, you are loosed from your infirmity. Instantly she straightened up and praised God, her face glowing with happiness. The ruler of the synagogue, he was not happy. He was thinking about all the man-made, made up rules about the Sabbath. There probably weren't a lot of people healing on the Sabbath day in that time, one would imagine. And yet, they were perfectly happy to let this woman suffer for another day just so that their rules would be observed. So what did Jesus say? Look at Luke 13.4. But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. And he said to the crowd, there are six days on which men ought to work.

3:13Therefore, come and be healed on them and not on the Sabbath day. Now when Jesus responded, all of his adversaries were put to shame and all the multitude rejoiced. So what did he say that caused the people to react in this way? Find out for yourself today in verses 15 through 17. The Lord then answered to him and said, hypocrite, does not each one of you on the Sabbath lose his oxardonky from the stall and lead it away to water it? So odd not this woman being a daughter of Abraham who sat in his bound, think of it for 18 years, be loosed on this bond of the Sabbath. And when he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame and all the multitude was rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. You see, God had said that the Messiah would give liberty to the captives and freedom to those who were bound. That's exactly what the prophet Isaiah said and Isaiah 61.1.

4:17Jesus did this when he loosed that woman from Satan who had bound her for 18 years with his disease. And now let's apply this to our life. What did God ask us to do and Isaiah 58 verses 6 and 7? Is it not the fast that I have chosen to lose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry? And that you bring to your house the poor who you cast out when you see the naked that you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh?
