Good morning you guys, it is Amanda with the ABCs at KSL in Murillo, and today we are
talking about a local transportation option that has been serving our community for years.
Joining us today is Billy from ASIC's taxi, a Salem-based cab service, helping people
get to where you need to go safely and reliably.

I'm doing great, how are you doing?

So tell us about ASIC's taxi and how long you guys have been serving the Salem area.
Okay.
Well, my name is Billy, and we've been serving at Salem area for about 10 to 14 years somewhere
in there.
Okay.
We'll go over 10 years.
And I used to work for another taxi company, and so I decided I'd start my own business
and go with it.
Why not?
So how far will you go to serve?
Well, I go to Independence, I go to Mom, I go to Staten, Supply-Vity, on Ville, Brooks,
so return.
Yeah, so it's basically this whole area and the surroundings.
Okay.
Will you take someone far, like, let's say someone's got an emergency at the beach and
I need you to drive them to the coast.
I can drive them there.
I just can't pick up there.
Okay.
Good to know.
All right.
So, let's see, what makes your taxi service different than other, like, ones that you can
get on an app?
You know, I'm, I'm a, for comparison, like for a bright share or whatever, you get me.
Okay.
That's what you get.
You get my personality.
You get my comfortability.
My safety.
I've been on the road for a lot of time, and I get you there, and I usually get you there
on time.
Okay.
I love that.
So, I recently had a ton of truck problems last summer.
It was terrible.
Constantly taking my truck and dropping it off at one shop, and then they couldn't figure
it out, but taking it to another shop, and I had to use one of those bright share apps.
And it was like, okay, who's showing up?
And then it's like, okay, now I got to deal with somebody different.
And the nerves of that of the unknown versus, okay, I'm going to call A6 taxi, and it's
going to be Billy.
Billy is going to show up.
He's going to build a relationship with you, so I love that you bring personalization
to your services.

So, what type of rides do people usually call you for?
Usually I do doctors appointments, grocery stores.
People call me because they know I'll load their packages, I'll put them on their porch.
And then, you know, pharmacy trips, airport rides, where they birthday parties, where they're
getting buzzed and don't want to drive, they call me and schedule it.
Okay, so what about holidays and stuff like that are those a big one for you so that people
aren't drinking and driving?
If they call me ahead of time, yes.
I'm pretty much to call me up and let me know you're doing this and I'll take it.
Okay, perfect.
And then, do you do services like late at night or early mornings or do you have certain hours?
I do have certain hours.
I usually work from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Okay.
And that's where they call me up and let me know they need a special run.
Like, I should pull.
And so, I'm shooting pull in the evenings.
Yep.
And I get hungry.
Do you mean you have a life, Billy?
Oh, I do.
I do, yes.
So, if somebody puts in a special request like, hey, I have this trip and it's outside of these
hours, you will accommodate if available.
Right.
If I'm able to, I will do it for them, yes.

And then, how far have you gone?
Well, we talked on the last break about, you know, you'd go to the coast.
But, what are some outside areas that you've gone to that are farther away?
Up on the Grand Pass, up on the Bend, up on the Vancouver, Portland, and that airport.
I mean, it's wherever they want me to go.
I go to Mac Vanville.
You know, it's where the customer needs to go.
Yeah, I love that.
So, you'll accommodate.
Oh, yes.
Okay.
Perfect.
Do you have clients that you, that utilize your services maybe weekly, biweekly, monthly,
that you do typical routine drives for and maybe built a little bit of a relationship with?
Oh, yes.
I got plenty of those doing this for 14 years.
I got at least 10 solid people right now that I give weekly rides to.
And there's a couple where I give monthly rides, go into the banks, go into work.
I pick up and drop off for work.
So, yeah, I have a customer base that keeps you actually pretty busy.
Yeah, I bet.
Especially with, like, probably like doctors appointments.
Like, seeing them go like, okay, good luck.
I hope everything goes well.
And then just building that connection and that relationship with people.
Which is kind of cool because that, to me, a lot of things run on relationships.
And having that trust and that bond.
And so, it's almost like that friendship.
Like, okay, Billy's going to come pick me up.
We're going to go to my doctor's appointment.
I can fill him in on what's going on and all the things.
You're almost kind of like that.
At least I know that people didn't know they needed me.
Well, you know what?
I told them, I told them, I told them.
You can show me anything they've never done before.
Oh, I love that.

So, Billy, safe is a big concern for people when they're getting into a vehicle with someone that they don't know.
Right.
Which is a concern, I think, across the board for any age, gender, all the things.
So, how do you make sure that your passengers feel safe and comfortable?
Well, first off, I'm very happy to go lucky.
I try to make them feel good by letting them sit up front, one.
A lot of times people go for the back door and like now, come on up here and be comfortable.
Yeah.
And that's the first step.
You know, and then I just talk to them.
Or if they don't want to talk, I turn on some music and then just drive.
Yes, I think I've been one that's been in a mood where it's like, I've got everything in the world to say.
I need somebody to hear me or it's like, my truck is giving me such a nightmare headache that I just don't want to talk.
I just want to tune everything out.
So, I love that you gauge it.
And it's like, okay, I can either talk or I could put music on.
Whenever you're most comfortable with.
Well, I try to make sure everybody feels comfortable.
I had one lady that I picked up at like six o'clock in the morning and I took her somewhere.
And she totally appreciated the fact that I was very warm, I guess, and friendly.
Yeah.
And she felt at ease a couple minutes after she was in the van.
So, it's like, that's kind of where I go with things.
I go off of people.
Yeah, you gauge them if they come in at five in the morning.
You know, they're not a morning person.
We'll let that go.
Right.
Yeah.
Some mornings, I'm really talking to them.
Some mornings, I'm not there.
Yeah.
I mean, when that's all of us, they're Billy.
Right.
What are some other things that your customers have said about using your services?
They appreciate me being on time.
Yeah.
And getting to where they need to be on time or even earlier than what they need.
I actually pride myself in doing that.
Yeah.
Because I hear a lot of times that taxi's don't show up.
People are late for their appointments because they didn't get their pick-up.
The other day, I got a guy saying, right, Cher, did it show up?
And they had to call me half hour before their appointment.
Oh, wow.
They were totally grateful that I was available and they were able to pay for this.

And then, can people schedule rides ahead of time?
Like, let's say next week, I know I've got a doctor's appointment and it's at this time and I want to get the booking out of the way.
Can I call and schedule that ahead of time with you or do you prefer right like the day of or the day before?
You know, setting up time calls a week in advance is actually really good because then I can set my schedule to you.
Right.
And make sure that I'm there.
Usually I'm there 10 minutes early and I'm just sitting there playing on my phone waiting for you.

I'm for me.
I'm a planner with all things in life.
So getting those things.

Gotta get that scheduled.
And then that also blocks in that spot for them in case somebody else has to book with you as well.
Right.

Oh no.

I love that.
I think that's my favorite thing about your company A6Caxi is that it is you.
It's you that answers the phone.
It's you that answers the emails.
And it's you that shows up when you do the rides.
And so I think building those relationships are huge.
And I'm sure have you seen that with your clients like that they just start to you when you have that relationship,
it just builds more where they rely on you and they utilize you more versus the strangers.
That's very true the other day.
I tried this wonderful older lady to work.
She's a workaholic.
Anyways, I drive her back and forth to work and she tells me all the time how much she's so grateful for me.
Yeah.
And that she likes me over the other people.
Yeah.
She don't call the other people she calls me all the time.
I love that.
You've become a big part of her life.
I have.
That's awesome.
That's a good feeling also.
Oh, yes.
It makes me feel good because I feel like I'm doing something genuine and helping people along the way that aren't able to take a bus.
Yeah.
And get to where they need to go because they're elderly.
Yes.
And then with the other apps it's like good luck setting up a thing on time to when you actually need it to be there.
You're on their schedule versus your own schedule.
Right.
