On today's episode, myself and Bullie Ray talking about the big sit down between Michael Cole and Cody Rhodes, our reaction on and off the air from Friday night, right here on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. We got to sit down with Michael Cole and Cody. You said, hey, Dave, you and I usually will talk at some point during the weekend about the show on Monday. Let's not talk. Let's keep our feelings to ourselves. Even we meet 30 minutes prior to us going live. We talked a lot about Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, which we'll get into a little bit later on this morning.

2:02But we did not share our feelings about the sit down. So a lot of meat on the bone, Bullie, when it comes to that four minutes sit down between Michael Cole and Cody Rhodes. You want to go first? What do you want to do? How do you want to handle this? How do you want to attack this? All right. So you asked me a straight up question. Do you want me to answer your question? You asked me straight up. Why did I think? Yep. I loved it. I loved it and I loved the way it was presented and I like how they did it. Now, I know there's probably members of the Busted Open Nation that could completely disagree with what I'm saying. And that's cool. That's fine. That's why we have two-way talk at 877-3444-4893. But to answer your question, Bullie, I loved what I saw on Friday night.

3:04I know that there's at least one person in the Busted Open Nation who completely disagrees with you this morning. Is it you? Muah! Me! I did not love it. Awesome. So we got two sides of the coin when it comes to that sit-down with Cody. So I think the best way is to maybe replay what we saw on SmackDown first and get your initial reaction and my initial reaction. What do you think? I don't even want to hear it again. So you don't want to hear the sit-down. I don't want to waste another four minutes of my life. Wow! You disliked it that much? Okay. All right. So I- No, no, no. 4:09that maybe I missed something. Maybe my- maybe I was in a bad mood for that four minutes. I wasn't. But yes, let's play it again because I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt because you loved it so much. I'm just going to ask you this. Did you love it so much? Did you love Cody? Or did you genuinely love it so much? I- I- I- I love the message that Cody delivered on Friday night. And- and obviously by now there was two messages really. There was the message that we saw on SmackDown and then there was the message that was after it went off the air between Cody and Michael and I love that and I love the way that it was presented. Now it's funny. I was listening to our Sunday show with Jonathan Hood in Justin LaBarr and they had two different thoughts of what they saw on Friday kind of similar to what I think you and I are going to dive into. You know,

5:12Jonathan wasn't a big fan Justin was and I- I enjoyed their conversation that you can hear every Sunday here on WWE Radio. So, bully, I'm interested because this has been a big talking point for us over the last week knowing that we are going to have this sit down. So I'm very interested in what you have to say and what the nation has to say this morning. If you want to play it, let's start it up and let's get into it because I have a funny feeling. This is going to be a massive talking point between me and the nation this morning. Now do you want to play it in full or do you want to come in with things that bothered you or things that I liked? If you want- the things that bothered me weren't start stop issues. It's just the overall everything of where I am at with his story, everything that comes with Cody, the what happened when the cameras start stopped rolling. How that information was presented to the public.

6:18So I'm going to reserve everything until we're done. Go ahead, start it up again. I don't think I'm going to start stop it or where you can if you want. Let's just play. We'll just play. We'll take our notes and then we'll give our true feedback afterwards. So let's go back to Smackdown on Friday night to sit down between Michael Cole and Cody Rhodes. Cody thank you for joining me. It's become a pattern. We just saw what happened at Sunday Night's made event. You weren't able to pull the trigger on someone that you cared about. What happened? You're not wrong. I don't know if I love the phrasing. Couldn't pull the trigger, but I can sight mercy, sure I've heard that, but that's an excuse. And I'm not here to do that. I don't want to give you any excuses. I've called you QB1. There's a lot of people in the company that refer to you as QB1.

7:23I'm proud that we have someone like you that's representing WWE. The problem is, is it seems there's no longer a team that the players are gone. Remember back at WrestleMania when you finally finished the story and the ring filled up with people you were on people's shoulders celebrating? If you take a look back at that picture, all of those people have stabbed you in the back. And it seems that would come with the territories, the champion, right? Maybe I should have seen it coming. A lifetime growing up in this industry, maybe I should have beat them to the punch, but whether that's Sami Zayn, the greatest of all time, John Cena, Kevin Owens, or Randy Orden, everybody, myself included, gets a bit seduced by the biggest title in the game. Maybe I'm arrogant or naive thinking that with me as champion, it would have gone differently.

8:29It did not. But I appreciate in a way I almost disagree with that's not the end of QB1 because that's not the only team. You know, we're the voice of WWE. This is a very large team and it's not just the gentleman fighting over the WWE championship. All right, stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop. All right, so bully, just so you know when I'm watching this, at this point in the sit down, I'm like, oh shit, like, you know, we're not getting anything out of this sit down. The first two answers from Cody sounds like the worst case scenario of everything that we talked about last week where he's glancing over the obvious and he's kind of giving you some word salad to direct the narrative in a completely different way and to kind of hide what we really want to know about, which is what happened on Sunday Night's

9:35made event. So just so you know when I was watching this on Friday night at this point, I'm nervous. I'm like, oh boy, I'm going to come on the air on Monday and bully's going to come on the air on Monday and completely tear this apart. Now, this was my thought process at this point in time during the sit down, but it's this from everything from this point forward that where Cody started to change my mind. Go ahead, play it up. Nope, don't go ahead yet. Wait, go ahead. And at this point, he had lost me. All right, fair enough. So now, so I was lost. I was I was throwing shit at the TV, grunting, moaning, MFing, but I'm going to listen intently to the next two minutes and see if my mind changes. All right, go ahead, Ben. You're going to be in the ring with Randy Orton. And Cody, when you look in his eyes,

10:38and you're standing just a few feet away from him, what are you going to do? You know what I'm not immune to, Michael, is every week, every week, whether it's in the locker room, whether it's in the arena, whether it's online, the discussion about my morality. Will he won't he? Is there a different path? Is there a darker path? Is he going to turn towards that direction? Let me ask you, do you know something? Does anyone know something that that I don't know? Because all this success that I've had, which is beyond my wildest dreams, has been me, this guy sitting right here, the guy who came back at WrestleMania 38, I had experimented and disrupted in the pro wrestling and sports entertainment space more than anyone save one. And maybe that's Mr. Heyman. I knew who I was. And I was uncompromised. And uncompromised got me back to back Royal Rumble Winds. Uncompromised got me two victories over

11:42Brock Lesnar who can say that uncompromised got me to defeat a champion who hadn't been beat in four years. And then we go to Summerslam against the greatest of all time my mentor, John Cena. And I didn't ask for the torch. I took it. And then this year at WrestleMania, I defeated Randy Orn no matter how I looked when I walked out of theirs. So I'm amused at the fact that I need to change, but credit to your question. That situation is going to come up again. And when it does, I'm not going to make the same decision I made at Sunday nights, Maynard. Thank you Cody. All right. Now, before we play what was said after, I want to dive into that last question in that last answer because that's truly what we wanted to hear. Like what happened? And there's going to come a time when you're face to face with

12:44Randy Orn again. But instead of answering the question right away, bully Cody's like, do you know something I don't do with the people online? Know something I don't? Have you not been paying attention? Like everybody wants a different Cody Rhodes. Everybody wants something different. The success that I've had in the last three years since coming back to the WWE, it's about me. I'm the one that did it. I'm the one that came back at WrestleMania 38 and one. I'm the one that won two Royal Rumbles. I'm the one that finished a reign of four years. I be Brock Lesnar, not once but twice. I defeated John Cena. Like that's all because of me. And I kind of like that's Cody being a little selfish here. That that was a little bit of Cody's fuck you to everybody. Everybody, like, why, why, why, change? Why do I need that? And everybody's talking about

13:46WrestleMania? People seem to forget. I won at WrestleMania. Like I really like that kind of fuck you answer from Cody Rhodes to that last question from Michael Cole. Other than Cody raising his voice a little bit, what you just said with the tone and the passion in which you spoke about Cody was better than Cody speaking about himself. Now, and you know what? I understand. I understand what you're saying, but that's why I feel like we got what came after the interview. This four minutes, what we just heard to me, everything about it was polished and soulless. There was nothing believable about it. I did not buy into it. I did not feel it. There was nothing made me go. Yeah, good. And I'm going into this with complete benefit of the doubt.

14:48But when I see the perfect lighting and when I see the cufflinks perfect and when I see the fold in the tie perfect and when I see the chain on the tie perfect and when I see the way the cuff comes up above his ankle and the socks and the shoes. Please give me something that ruins your appearance a little bit. How many times and I hate doing this to Cody, but I'm going to do it. How many times have we seen Dusty come on TV a disheveled mess in his suit because it looks like he didn't sleep for a week because of what Rick Flair had done to him where he had circles under his eyes and he was a mess and you could hear it in his voice that he was a mess and he couldn't string words together at times because he was so upset about the situation. I didn't get

15:49that. I got polished pre pre pre pre worked out in my mind to answer. Nothing about this felt real. If Cody would have if Cody would have gotten upset. If Cody would have been like if he would have actually came out of himself for a minute and took it out on Michael. Like what the hell Michael? What's going on around here? I've done this and I've done this if he would have undid his tie a little bit. Like come on Mike give me some answers. What am I doing wrong? What am I not seeing? If he would have got up and then maybe sat back down and been like dude I'm sorry. I'm sorry, but I'm just I'm heated over this. If there would have been some more passion, some more piss and vinegar, some more soul, some more life than sitting there. Cool, calm and collected and hey my voice will go up a little bit but that's about it. It's too perfect

16:52for me. It doesn't resonate with me. I am not tell I will not sit here and tell you or one person that calls in or one person that is listening that you are wrong for liking or loving that promo. I'm just saying for me there was nothing there and and and it's funny as you as you just said. And the fact that you just cut a better promo than and you aren't even trying. Imagine if you tried the fact that I felt that more from you in a minute speaks volumes to me about why I didn't feel it from him. And and and bully it's funny that you just said hey I'm not going to blame you if you liked it. I can't blame you for feeling the way that you do. I can't I can't argue that point at all. But for me I loved it because it was not how we said it. It's what he said. It's the things that he said that really resonated with me and what really resonated with me bully is

17:58the exact opposite that it would have resonated with you. You and I have been talking about this for a long time. That's just you but the fans about the way that Cody presents himself the the suit the perfection that's Cody Rhodes. You know what? Cody's not his father. Cody is not dusty roads. You're right. Dusty would have been a disheveled mess. Dusty would have looked like he had in slept for a week. He would have screamed and yelled. He was his hand would have touched the camera and he would have grabbed everybody and he would have been like let's fucking go. But that's not Cody. Cody is not the disheveled mess. Cody is not the one that's going to touch the camera and bring the people in because that's honestly not the message that Cody sent out there. Cody's no disrespect to the fans. No disrespect to you Michael or anybody else. But I'm the one that accomplished all this shit. That was me. It was why are you doing a better job than he's doing right now.

19:04But that's because you know why? Bullying because I am different than Cody Rhodes. Cody this is Cody Rhodes. Love it or not. Love it or hate it. This is who Cody is and I don't want to see a changed Cody Rhodes in that way. Let him be who he is. He's never given you any other reason than the time since he's come back to the WWE. Then he's anybody else but that guy that was sitting with Michael Cole. I think you're settling for mediocrity. I don't think that but I don't think that has anything to do with mediocrity. Bullying you know me. You know me because you and I have been doing this show for 10 years. You know how to throw something at me better than anybody. You know how to throw something at me where you know I'm going to get emotional. You know I'm going to go on a rant. I'm known for my rant. You know that that's how I think we've been able to bring a

20:04lot of fans in is by pure emotion. Cody is cold and calculated. That's how Cody has always been. He's cold and calculated our words to describe what type of professional wrestler. A heel. Okay keep going. Yeah but Cody I don't want Cody Rhodes to be different than I want but I do want Cody to understand what's happened not to be an idiot because it's almost like come on man you look you look like an idiot when you keep letting the same thing happen again and again. Now he's finally gotten it where it's like this I'm not taking this shit anymore. Now the way he delivers it is going to be different than a bully Ray or a dusty Rhodes or anybody else. I want somebody to I want him to deliver it like it really really bothers him. I want him to deliver it where he can't control his emotions for a second. I want him to get up and kick the mic stand. I want him to undo

I want him to raise his voice at Michael Cole when he knows he shouldn't be raising his voice at Michael Cole and then apologize to Michael Cole because dude I'm sorry I'm not mad at you. I'm just upset with the situation and then sit back down and then have to take a deep breath and compose himself again. There's no there's no gear changes. There's no sense of I'm pissed man. What the hell is going on here? There's no sense of being out of breath or getting caught up in the thought or wondering why if I've done all these things and people still question my morality. What am I not seeing? Listen we're too passionate of tie-ins from New York City. I get it. I get it. All right but I know what I've seen from him before and even if

22:18you want it sometimes I do feel sometimes I really feel his passion and then sometimes I feel the pro wrestling this is what I what we need to deliver today. I did not feel this the other day and this business this industry is all about feel and how you make people feel and how you can manipulate their emotions when we will this whole thing down the professional wrestling industry is about the manipulation of people's emotions to get them to spend money on the product and you can manipulate their emotions in any way shape or form. I'm sorry but I didn't feel it the other night at all. You're go it's like it's it's interesting here I'm going big picture I just didn't feel it you're getting that you're getting into the details of but he said this and he said

23:19this yeah Dave you're right he did say these things but he didn't say them with any passion to me so I didn't buy into it. Well and bully it's hard for me to listen I the way I feel is the way that I feel but I think the majority of fans and I and we'll open up to the phones because I'm interested with the nation has to say but I think probably if I were to guess more fans are going to think the way that you do bully because we're at a point right now where let's face facts Cody is losing a lot of the fans a lot of the the message that I got from Friday night and the way that it resonated with me I don't know if it resonated with people who are watching at home or people who are in the arena reacting to watching that promo and obviously Cody is losing fans all you have to do is go back to last Friday when Randy was talking to the fans and the reaction that they

24:23had for Cody Rhodes so I can't again I can't come on air bully and say that you're wrong because I think that probably most people agree with what you said I love the fact for me that Cody refuses to change for anybody this is what's got me to the dance and not only did it get me to the dance it may be QB1 it made me the top wrestler in this company why do I need to change for anybody when it got me back to the WWE it got me to beat Seth Rollins at WrestleMania it got me to end a four year reign of Roman reigns it got me to beat Brock twice and it got me to have a patch past the torch moment again he said it wasn't given to me I took it I beat John Cena at Summer Slam last year all those things that he said were true and Cody did it his way in doing it great say it with some more passion but that's not some hard but that's not Cody bully Cody hasn't

25:30said things in the past that were more passionate or said with more heart than what he said in that sit down but I but I feel like more than ever and that's where that third answer to the question really resonates that I'm not listen I'm not going to listen to you I'm not going to listen to them I'm not even going to listen to the fans I'm not going to listen to the people online I am going to do it my way and I and I feel like that and that just isn't about physical then he should have stuck in his convictions about why he didn't kick Randy in the head and not say if given the opportunity again I'll do something different if he's going to do it his way he should just say I made my decision not to kick Randy in the head and that's it I have my reasons their personal reasons I'm doing it my way well I mean the one thing I liked early on is that when Michael Cole asked that question he's like I got no excuses I'm not going to I'm not

26:31going to hand you excuses on why or why not I didn't do it now before we dive in to what was said after and you know and we got to get to the to the nation as well I I did find it interesting just as like a little planting of the seed whether a goat whether it grows or not but he did mention Paul Hamin and he talked about like the way he has done things and the way that he does it in his way can disrupt things and the only he said the only other person that's been able to do it in this time period other than him was Paul Hamin I did find it interesting that he did throw out Paul Hamin's name in that sit down with Michael Cole you found that interesting and I found a certain word that he used in the sit down very interesting and it's a word that I can bring back to Star Wars seduced Anakin Skywalker was seduced by the dark side Paul Hamin represents

27:39that dark side just little puzzle pieces as we go along here yeah and and and another thing and we've talked about it and we talked about that picture of Cody Rhodes winning the championship and everybody that was in the ring celebrating that victory has stabbed Cody Rhodes in the back bully whether it resonated with you whether it didn't resonate with you whether you wanted something different what we're gonna seem moving forward to me is very interesting and the fact that like Cody Rhodes is as of right now not in the championship title picture he could be and and that's a question I want to throw out to you bully really quick before we get into what happened after the sit down and even more interesting who tweeted out the video footage of what happened after the sit down but can you be QB1 and not have the championship title like can you be the top
