Your date of podcasts for the big story behind results and contracts from the tennis world today. Thursday October 1st, many many results to break down on today's podcast as we are off to avoid the start. In this week's ATP and WTA Tour Level Action, now we've yet to see any of the seeds. Capit on the women's side in Beijing. We will have those seeds in action as round two gets underway here tonight. And of course, on today's podcast, I want to break down my most notable round two matches for the women in Beijing. I also want to talk about the most notable results coming out of round number one. I do have to start with the men on today's podcast because round one now in the books for the action are 200 level events in the world. 100 level events in Tokyo and Beijing. Upsets defining the early round action seeds falling everywhere.

Let's start in Tokyo where you had third seeded Taylor Fritz. You had fourth seeded Rafa Houdar fifth seeded, Brandon Nakashima sixth seeded, Casparood and seventh seeded Tommy Paul all knocked out round number one of the event. Now many of those men I just alluded to competed last week in the Lafer Cup. And accordingly, they were in Europe not acclimating themselves to the conditions here in Asia, not acclimating themselves perhaps more importantly to the time zones here in Asia as well. Certainly in the case of Taylor Fritz who it just felt like had no juice left in his legs in the end of his third set defeat to Hume Munar. Yeah, like that was a factor and yet still like for Fritz to lose a hard court match to Munar as he does six seven six four six three. Of course, you had fourth seeded Rafa Houdar another lopsided defeat as Rafa knocked out one in three by Daniel Vallejo the ball just spraying all over the court on Rafa fifth seeded, Brandon Nakashima knocked out three and two by Ugo on bear now.

You know, again, you're not going to get much rhythm against them bear regardless of conditions when you have no rhythm yourself. That's a very brutal match up still three and two for Nakashima Casparood knocked out six and three by Luciano Darderi. I actually thought that was the highest level of any of the seeds. Darderi's just good. His forehand is the biggest weapon on the court in just about every match that he plays. I don't think this was an exception now that speaks to perhaps where the ceiling is for Casparood moving forward on this surface, but that one I was the most intuitively all right with as the level from Darderi, like even if Casparood was at his best, I don't know. I mean his best, okay, but what the 2026 version of Casparood's best is on a hard court, even if he was at that best, I still might lean Darderi in a match up like this, but particularly given the circumstances, whatever. The most confounding of the losses is Tommy Paul knocked out one and two by Alejandro Tobio.

Tommy had no rhythm. Tommy was spring forehand left and right. Tobio was teeing off on returns of serve. I felt like Tommy was always behind the eighth ball. I felt like he was always making contact in the eighth of a second late, just like the rhythm was never there. The hitches in his backswings, because it is a little bit jerky, certainly on the backhand side. It feels like he doesn't start that back swing till the very last moment. Forehand side, obviously, it's a bigger loop of a backswing. Now his racket speeds exceptional, but the timing was just horrible in this matchup with Tobio. Tobio is capable of dialing things up. The lefty has real weapons to work with, and as solid as I can remember seeing him off of that backhand swing in the match, because he knew, okay, this guy has given me errors. Let me allow him to continue to do that. Tommy pressed himself out of the match. Again, Tommy Paul, you're not sure if a guy will have a better opportunity age 28 years old to 29 years old now to reach a two or final, as he has presented for himself this season.

With this loss again, Tommy right now, 635 points behind eighth place, Daniel Medvedev. Medvedev also still alive this weekend Beijing. He's 13th, there are a bunch of guys ahead of him as well. Mentioning still in play, demon still in play. Now, Fritz and Hodor lost as well, but like, Joke of it still in play, and Joke of it just five points behind Tommy. Tommy will need everything for him to break correctly if he's going to, maybe he has to win one of the two 1000s left on the board. I don't know how feasible that is for Tommy. Again, the one thing he's lacking this year is the signature victory. He's been really good against the rest of the field. Again, you look at the ATP Stance Leaderboard Cursey, of course, of our friends at Tennis Abstract. Tommy Paul entering the week 39 and 17 according to Leaderboard. That's fourth most wins on the season. Trish only is Verab, Sinner Tiafo. You look for him against top 20 competition. Tommy Paul this year against the top 20. Actually, pretty darn good. 6 and 6. What does he against the top 10? Tommy Paul against the top 10. 3 and 3.

Where have those wins come? 4 Tommy Paul. I'm talking to myself out of the beat. Zverab, Sinner Tiafo. That one was real. Be Demon and Hamburg. Beat Fritz and Delray, but it was a February win over Fritz. Again, the signature wins in signature places. That's the key thing is signature places. Sinner Tiafo Zverab was certainly one. That's when I'm overlooking. But that's been the thing that's like informed. These are the sorts of wins he's racked up. This one and two losses. Maybe the most confounding on his resume of the season. And it just was so jerky in the face of the pace obviously that Alejandro Tobio will throw at you. That's what he does. But lefty into the back end. That's usually where Tommy so sound. That one surprised me the most. Fritz got off to his slow start. He just didn't have his legs underneath him. He was slapping set number three. But again, the thing for Taylor Fritz, the reason he was down early, the reason it just felt like he could not close down the home stretch of that second set.

It's the transition game. That's the last hole left in the game to fill from approach shot through snapping off first of all. It's just never going to be instinctual for Taylor Fritz. And that's the Achilles heel because he floats so many first values and against the guy like Munar who's going to get a second chance at a pass. It's going to make you pay when you float those first values. Now again, when Taylor Fritz has his feet underneath them, oftentimes he doesn't have to do much if anything with the first value because things come that strong off the ground off the racket for him. Lost his pop on the serve as he lost his legs and was pulling towards left hip down the home stretch of that match. Again, like he had a little time to transition from labor. It's really hard. It's really hard because you lose time flying there so you didn't have much. It's a schedule loss certainly. But again, Taylor Fritz right now on the outside looking in to that two or finals needed a big week. Certainly a Munar draw and Casper was the other seat in his section. You feel like you could have penciled him in maybe even in pen to the semi finals on paper.

That's why we don't play the matches on paper. It's certainly a surprising loss for Taylor. But he did at least manage to set. Can't say that about Brandon Nakashima. Good first set between Rudin Dardary. Casper just could not do enough creating through the backhand wing. And Lucian under there, you give him a look at any forehand. He hits it on the run cross so well. He gets his feet set. There's just there's a pop to that ball. I'm a Dardary believer. It's a good win for Lucian. I also will say again, like I don't think Casper played poorly. The pop's not there right now for him. I mean, when he has his feet under a forehand, it's always popping. But the service pop in particular is not there for him. There are a couple slices he hit that night through the court as well. It's just that Dardary's forehand was bigger. And that can't be the case in a matchup for Casper. He hit it crisply not crisply enough. They're dare able to create more with the serve as well. I'm a Dardary believer. What's Dardary? Nineteenth right now in the points race. Something seventeenth in the points. He's not making the two or finals.

But he should be a top 25 maybe in top 20 guy as we come out of this season. That intuitively to me feels correct. And by the way, you look for him now. Lucian and Dardary, overall in the year, new career high. 36, two or level victories here this season. I guess 35. I don't know. Sometimes tennis abstract wants to be weird. 35 and 22 overall on the season. Again, for him the title, of course, title excuse me, the title in Santiago, two finals, bochedad, boi and his arrows. It's all 250s. But again, you look at what he's done this year at the slams. Round four US open. Round four Australian open. Obviously you look at what he's done at the masters this year. Quarter finals for him in Canada. semi finals for him in Rome. It's been a damn good year for the 24 year old. Again, you throw Dardary in the mix with Caboli. Our Naldi made a slam quarter final. Our semi final this year. Excuse me, obviously. You've got Caboli in a French open final. Then oh, by the way, Yannick center sitting there at the top of the list. And we didn't even say the name Lorenzo Musetti, who I would remind everyone first month of the season.

He's too sets to love up on Novak joke, which coming off of the year where he was one of the eight past players in the world. You're like, Musetti is here. Tennis Italy. They're doing something right. It's a very good win for Dardary again. It's just wins the last time Casper. It's something inspiring on a hard court for us to get behind. The one I haven't mentioned, Rafa. Rafa plays big. And when he's out of rhythm, it's notable. Now, Vallejo did a great job of absorbing the first blow, keeping Rafa in the outer third and more importantly, just playing the ball where Rafa was not. It was a very basic one in one. Keep Rafa on the move. When his feet are set, you're just in trouble. I know that sounds simple. But in the face of Rafa's firepower, that's still extraordinarily difficult to execute. When Rafa's giving you that many gifts of Vallejo able to do so, Vallejo, by the way, the 22 or a 2-new career, high 53 in the live rankings. Yeah, he's had a sound year. Nothing signature, perhaps at the 2 or level, when's a couple matches in Cincinnati, went over Val Vashro there.

But 59 and 25 of her is last 52. 43 victories for him this season. That includes runs to four different challenger finals, two challenger titles for him. Of course, he made a quarter final in Bochdod, not just a quarter final, excuse me, a semi final, or he was knocked out in three by Luciano Darderi. I mean, what's the big thing for him? We got to play main draw, U.S. Open. We got to play main draw, Wimpleton. Wins a match at Roland Garros. Again, this is the guy who had to play quality to start the year in Australia. We will see him in the main draw of all four majors next season. Oh, by the way, qualified beat learner Tannen Madrid as well. It's a pretty damn good win. Vallejo's sound. The physicality is the weapon. Again, was gifted a lot. This should have been a match up though. That should have been barbecue chicken for Rafa Houdar. And again, was just out of rhythm throughout this one. But again, much like many of his labor cup peers, perhaps that was just the theme for them as they made their transition here. Again, the 20 year olds still played so many matches. That's my concern. Although now the number has dropped to 83 over his last 52 weeks.

Again, since turning pro may of last season and add another 30 matches he played at Virginia. So since the start of last year, he has played 128 matches. And that's played 128 matches since the start of June last year. That's a ton of tennis on a guy who again just turned 20 years old. You wonder if you might have an in-drieve like dip down the home stretch of this season. It's just again the body is burnt out. How could it not be this guy who had no ranking and is now 13th in the rankings and again currently sitting at 9th in the point race? Which by the way, a two or finals appearance being in play in his first full season. That's a fun. How many again, how many players have made the two or finals in their first full season of professional tennis? The list I'm sure is narrow. Tough loss as it relates to that race again in early round loss and just kind of hit himself on to this one again. You look at the numbers for him. It was not a good serve and performance. There are a lot of first ball errors. And so the layout is through those of your seats knocked out in the opening round.

But by the way, like you almost lost top seed Carlos Alcarez as well. Alcarez who was down three set points in the opening set rallies back for a 7 6 4 6 6 1 victory over Alex Nicholson. And by the way Alcarez broke Nicholson right out of the gates in set number three. It was the first time he wasn't one down in early break in one of the sets and he ran away with it from there. He's slicing more when on the run out of that backhand corner than I think he does when he excuse me. Maybe that's my body detecting a lot when he does that when he's at full strength. But he's looking better getting out of that corner once again. And I think he's starting to trust himself a little bit more out there on the court as a mover in those corners serve for hand. And they could both be Chris. But once again, like this to me was a testament to Alex Nicholson. And I don't remember if I don't believe he was formally a maker break all star, but the committee discussed his name and the ruling was that he was just too young.

And yet I've talked about it all season like he since the start of the year has been the most fascinating of the ATP to our prospects because from an analytical analysis of the skills he presents. Alex Nicholson has the full package the full arsenal of tools available to him on a tennis court. And the way he leverages those tools the way he leverages his comfort level taking the ball out of the air driving the first volley. Staying inside the baseline and taking the ball almost as a half half volley ground stroke because he's not the most fleet of foot and doesn't want to be 12 feet behind the baseline. So he beats you to the spot inside the baseline accordingly instead of being you to the spot with a cleaner strike 12 feet behind the baseline like he just plays downhill. And he was Russian Carlos Alcarazza again. It's a testament to Alcarazza's improvisational excellence. It's a testament to Alcarazza's own weaponry that there were plenty of time for it to felt like Nicholson had to have volley things because otherwise he was cooked.

But Nicholson because of the leverage that he plays with because of the aggression that he plays with because there's such definitiveness, decisiveness in the game plan and downhill and think nature. I know I've said that a million times now that he wants to execute. It works because you're you're just not going to make every passing shot as excellent as you are in the outer thirds. If you don't hit the pass perfectly, he closes the net so hard and he is 64 and he has the wingspan to cover ground at the net and he gets his paws on it. Whether it's a drop volley short angle, whether it's just because he's so strong and long up there, a drive of the volley into the open space, so confident with the overhead. Alex Mikkelson plays downhill and that's going to work against anyone. In physically he has gotten strong enough and quick enough that even in the face of Carlos Alcarazza, not for a three out of five yet, couldn't do a three out of five against Tiafo but he did it for two and two point nine sets of tennis served for that match.

Don't forget. But it's again still just 22 years old. He is getting closer and closer to his final form. He's not there yet. Again, still just 22 years old. By the way, just turn 22. But the question wasn't about his skills. It's well, what does the ceiling look like for him physically? And again, he I was there and blew those. He has transformed himself as an athlete to the point where even in the face of the Alcarazza pace, he can still take that ball on the rise. He should be there a split second fast enough and just drives through things so confidently that more importantly, couldn't sustain it in the third, but the service real. It he jams you into your body and then he can play the plus one anywhere from there. He loves that jam your body, forehand either inside out or down the line and just kind of follow that ball forward from there. That play is just so effective for him now. It's, you know, again, Michelson, Ethan Quinn debate. They're both committed to the same class that both supposed to be at University of Georgia at the same time. Obviously didn't ultimately happen for Michelson. Quinn does go wins an NCAA singles championship there.

It's a fun discussion like who has the higher upside because you watch the serve for the forehand of the queue and you're like, yeah, yeah. And yet again, maybe it's not one singular trade although the way he is at the net is just different from anyone else. He may be the best at the net of anyone on the ATP tour. And that includes Carlos. The upside for Michelson continues to take up and even in losing this match to go get a set against Carlos. Stock up Michelson. Good win for Carlos who's rounding into shape and just like again, then he can miss as many months he does and just pop back like this. That's why he's Carlos freaking Alcaraz. That one was notable. You know, again, the other one I should have mentioned this at the start because obviously what he meant to the sport, but Kenishi Corey plays his final match knocked out by Francis Tiafo 4 and 4. Look, just not enough to you know, how old is Kenishi Corey at this point what 39 years old 36 years old, excuse me.

And with all the injuries he has dealt with not a ton of matches under his belt. Yeah, you wouldn't expect him to have the movement he once did and thus when pushed into the outer thirds. The pop that peak, the Ishikori of course possessed wasn't quite there, but I mean, he more than held his own and you know, again, it's a testament to Francis who just had a little bit too much juice and was able to track down that down the line redirect attack the open space from there. And that's when he got Nishikori into trouble. Francis didn't make a lot of first serves, but when he did, it was really hard for Nishikori to recover from whenever behind the eight ball within the course of a point. But look, 4 and 4, Nishikori knocked out and again, this is a guy who is what one of the 10 best players of the 2010s, maybe I think 10. Obviously, Fetter, Jokovic, Nadal, Murray, Waverinka are the five you definitively would have above. I think you probably put the peak version of Del Potro above that. So, chillich got the major, made three major finals, you probably have to put him both that as well, but then like the reynich, Nishikori, for rare, like, birdich, tier of things, Songa, tier of things, that's where Nishikori lives.

Again, you're one of the 10 best players of a decade, that's a notable fucking career. And certainly one worth honoring, stinks that the injuries kind of clouded the home stretch of it. So sad that that happened to him and happened to Murray, it happens to so many because the sport is so physically demanding. But by the way, also again, for Francis Tiaferman, 43 victories this season, he's right now eight in the live rankings, that's a career high, sixth right now, the points race, over 800 points up on that place, Rafa Houdar. I think Tiaf was getting determined and talk about again, maximizing the opportunity, this two year window, 25, 26, where four to five spots were just so thoroughly up for grabs. Francis is going to go grab one of these spots, tough spot for any player to be in again, in Tokyo against Nishikori, it was meant so much not just to the game, but obviously to the people of Japan in particular. Francis able to get the victory, what's his reward, a round two date with Arthur Fees. And by the way, again, I am well aware Arthur Fees has not made a quarter final.

DMS are open, I'm not allowed to make wagers, but if you'd like to put pride on the line and have a screenshot of a DM with me, I'll DM you directly Arthur Fees is making at least one slam quarter final and probably multiple in 2026. And again, I just, oh my goodness, that matchup with Luke of Anasha, unless Vanasha struck the backhand line perfectly, hit the first serve to the exact spot. There was just nothing he could do to hurt Arthur Fees. Arthur Fees, who I remind you had to come through qualifying, Arthur Fees looked really, really good. You might win this damn tournament, and then again, like Cincinnati five, like Arthur Fees belongs in the two or finales. Arthur Fees has win healthy, bitten one of the five best players in the world this year. And I know it didn't happen for him at the slams. You know what, I was going to make a point, but that's a tease. I know it didn't happen for him at the slams yet, but more on that topic with a dear friend of the podcast and very fun exercise coming up in the next week on that thought for all of you tennis fans to enjoy.

Great six and six went 20 minutes on Tokyo again, we haven't even gotten debaturing. I'm not going to do this long on every event. I promise. But I really liked the action in Tokyo around one. I thought Vashro blocks was really good. I'm just in. I'm in on Alex blocks. By the way, like Val Vashro is going to have a thousand points come off of his resume. He's still going to be in the top 50. Proves he belongs. He just knows who he is will redirect line gets forward behind it. His overhead looks like by the technique that it should sail on him every time it really never does. He was able to finish with the first volley in a way that Alex blocks wasn't that was the only difference in a six and six match. Blocks has the game blocks is not going anywhere. The floor is already so high. And there's a lot of things that Alex blocks can do successfully on the court as well. Alex blocks. Alex blocks is in conversations now. And yes, we're we're very close to offseason mode. Alex blocks is going to be on some lists that I offer up to LD once we do formally shift into offseason mode here on the mini break podcast feed. But great win again for.

A great win over blocks six and six four Vashro to advance to round number two. Baratini from set down three sets over the Vittovic Fokina. That was fun. Mahatchka the three set win. Faria three sets over Fairy. The other one that I haven't. Oh, yeah, Arnoldi three sets over Sakamoto. Though I still love the way race Sakamoto can strike the tennis ball. The other one that just has to be mentioned and then I swear I'm going to move to a different event. But a lot of thoughts on this. I said many, many results to discuss. Holgeruna did not look good. Rune and act out three one by very much informed Kirin Shikage. Okay, crack the top 100 made his first two or level semi final last week. What was the best version of Holgeruna dynamic athlete did things in the corners sliding in and out of the mama clay in particular, but any surface the forehand high and heavy to work himself. Bet you into attacking his back end, which he hits on the run so well. How he transformed himself into finding more forehands to be aggressive with so that he could get forward and make life easier for himself, but dynamic athlete, right.

Boy was its stiff in and out of the corners for Holgeruna and by the way, that's exactly what one should expect given the the magnitude of the injury he is returning from. Patients patients for Holgeruna when his feet were set still made good contact. The movement has not returned and for someone who's game again, why was he so dynamic, why was it able to once upon a time let's not forget David can and I going into 2024 like he had Holgeruna over Yonic center and that Alchora center, what's that trio look like was a real discussion. As we came out of the 2023 season where he was one of the five best players in the world on the clay and it just looked like again we had our three prospects everyone else would be chasing. That's the sort of athlete he is when he's at the peaks of his powers he just he was not that in his opening match it was stiff. Patients patients not only for those fans of Holgeruna, but hopefully for Holgeruna himself because obviously there's still some work to do, but again it was very nice to have him back on the court.

Because someone certainly whose best tennis is still a very very impressive level for us to enjoy. Alright though that's everything from Tokyo against some great round two matchups. Feast first Tiafo is the match you need to watch from any tournament coming up over the next two day stretch. Oh I didn't mention CTC possible resets over at your very. He's looking better it's finally I mean again is the arrow ever going to get as high as it was at the peaks of his powers. I don't think ever again for Stefano Cizipas is the arrow finally pointing up it is a CTC pass Vashro very fun second round match. Then again we're all on Alchora's watch but by the way the one C the two C the eight C that's all that's left as we enter the round of 16 in Tokyo no shock then accordingly Carlos Alchora's 50.7% chance of letting the event according to tennis abstract that is everything from Tokyo. Let's move on now to the men's action in Beijing where by the way like the upsets weren't minimal obviously you had top seed Sasha's very advanced straight sets over Camdorian boy anytime that back and sits up a lefty forehand for us to just punt down on with his back and joke which is one.

I mean Murray as intro joke which is one Murray is one B and there is next upon that was the best back ends I've ever seen in my life on the men's side. He wins joke which is straight set win. Men's chick straight set victory but again a bunch of seeds eliminated in the opening round for seated Flavio Capoli just worked across the court and look that's the sort of ball striker Roman Cifuolin is and by the way it's a Cifuolin who win healthy let's not forget. He's eliminated himself to 36 in the rankings the Cifuolin who just last week reached the semi finals but really fun match against Neil Medvedev there. Cifuolin's in form Capoli's coming from Laver cup Cifuolin worked and the ball was just sitting up and when you give Roman Cifuolin time to strike the ball clean again still such a brilliant ball striker. 3 and 2 over Capoli that was of course the upset Hatchenoff 3 and 3 over Felix.

I mean again just Felix could not his forehand on the run sprayed on him and couldn't be dynamic enough with the backhand that down the line would be therefore Hatchenoff to attack or first forehand inside out second forehand inside out third forehand to the open space Hatchenoff by the way is serving lights out right now. This is the level we saw from him in New York. Felix is not the best version of himself right now and Hatchenoff is serving too well just Felix did not get a lot of looks on serve again good win for Hatchenoff 3 and 3. The closest of the upsets and this was just another one of those like the Casper Rude Darderry match this one was just fun. So who be hard got 5 7 6 3 6 4 knocks off 7th seeded learner TN it's good to see who be find some form down the seasons home stretch again. He was good in New York just through the finalist Ben Shelton in round number two that was after of course got a set off Tommy instant and Adi wins that can coon challenger beat Roman Cifuolin there by the way then last week of course finals in Chengdu nice stretch of tennis for who be who yeah it's good.

It's good it by the way this might be the rune path when you have a significant entry might take you six months to find your footing once again the rhythm of the weekend week out grind that is the professional tennis lifestyle who be serving lights out always likes a good lefty match up because he doesn't have to hit as many forehands cross court and look again the way he gets downhill just learn a game too much space on the return of serve and that's what learner does but who be coverage grounds so well margins in this one so thin who be 5 7 6 3 6 4 wasn't a bad loss for learner. It was a good victory for who be her cats the level was there for him and again his serve just can disrupt any players rhythm and certainly learner TN is a rhythm based player so upset there but again the upsets just weren't. Shocking coming out of Beijing the way they were in Tokyo you can understand her cats loss. Capoli coming over from labor cups Fulule and in very good form and then again like what was the other upset at those were the two those are the only two no missing there was one more than the Felix lost Felix drew a US open semi finalist and he's still trying to work his way back into form.

Again that was really the most notable things demon looked good against new owner believe he was down in early break in that opening set was able to work his way back. I mean what he did I don't know if you've seen the video of the set point but the way demons able to track balls that I was still and the things he's able to do on the slide the ways able to recover and change direction his speed of his first step how quickly is able to accelerate how fast that acceleration gets him. Tennis wise yes there are limitations athletically there are not. Demon belongs on the short list month feces obviously month feasts but if anyone's on the level it might or close to it it might be out freaking demon or and like peak just movement joke which was better in the corners but just straight speed for speed. Demons on some lists he certainly on some list and then by the way I can mention look sound in his all labor cut battle with Sasha but lucky gets through four and six.

Look again medvedes to the play his first round matches only one seed left in the bottom half of the draw it's Alex them an hour but again you've got the US open semi finalist hatching of you got an in forms of fuel and in form her cuts in form Arthur she uh. There are some names in that bottom half of the draw even if there aren't seeds top half again you got you got joke but you got men chick medvedes to play his first run match by the way Francisco surround low three sets over on the same scope and shout out by the way Jerry shank good to have the young rising Chinese player back three set one for him over said be by as. I watched more Tokyo than Beijing I did watch some Beijing but I'll give you more in depth moving forward on the action in Beijing still you got some fun second round match up certainly across the board i mean there have another life in Jerry shank that one's not the entertaining I am excited to see joke which take on bullion choke at the end just boost pace in the face of joke which.

Men chick first surround low I think that's a fun one as well certainly all things to be locked in on on the men side and I know surprise that right now Sasha's air if your favorite to win the title 32.2% according to tennis abstract that's the men's action in Beijing excuse me on the women side round one officially in the books nothing crazy like good win Katie Valinets straight sets over Robin Montgomery. I mean again it was a streaky performance for junction when that'll happen when you make what was the number for her in her opening run match 48.4% of her first serves chin win syllable do advance in three sets to get to the round two match we'll talk about her more second good win for Ashland Kruger who's just been back to her top 60 self with the pace you can play with down the seasons home stretch Kruger straight sets over Kenan. In the Sinyakiva over Lynn net a sorrio over Tara Rudy great win for Paula Badosa three sets she knocks out Daria Casakina shout out 2022 would love that match up could have been a potential quarter final.

Julian knocking out Alicia parks Julian capable on the level win healthy of Elena Gabrielle Roussen knocking out Lily Tagger Janice Chen of the good win for her over on Helena Klinna again I don't think any of those are paradigm shifting results the violinets trend lines are pointing up like I'm watching Katie Valins of the draw breaks right for Valinets is right now 85 in the world as she could make around three round four of Australia. I'm really I'm that high on her level I'm right now and you look for a valiant. Go beat Alicia Mertens go get one of those sort of wins beat valentova of course in the Philly final but it was a little bit of a banged up valentova. That's a massive opportunity for her and by the way have six matchups I wrote down for my favorite round two matchups in Beijing were all of our seats up the underway. Seven Lancashvian tech golf etc but the most notable matchups certainly Calons guy at Chen when well Calons guy's tricky man line drive pace takes her cuts plays at her own rhythm all things you can describe with junction when it's the can junction when eclipse 50% for a certain percentage challenge not 60% 50%

because God is she under 50% far too frequently it's always been a struggle for her I like when chin when gets moving and she starts playing a little higher and heavier reminds us of the sort of athlete that she is as well and get allows herself time to find rhythm before she just starts dialing it up which is easiest to do of course when the service firing. Yeah it's a litmus test match again do we get us open chin when do we have the streaking is the chin when the first run I would mind everyone again like between what was it right and they are opening around qualifying match in the battle with keys did she not lose a set at the US open so certainly which chin when are we going to get which Calons guy are we going to get a fair question as well but that's my most most notable matchup I mentioned valenettes for smirkens and leave her sashlin Kruger all American battle and leave. Like what is an elite right now the live rankings 33 ish like out of being around that range 30. Shabby for the 26 year old again first half decade of her career in and out of the top 100 the pace is just real she's found the physicality to match a little bit more discipline in her shots selection and the service come along as well like just a good ball striker it's not serena Williams power tennis power tennis country club level but it good good ball striker that's a fun matchup service.

That's a fun matchup certainly speaking of shout out 2022 but dosa taking on you lane a ostapenko someone's winning that match someone's getting around number three shout out to the college tennis ties Diana Schneider versus Janice Chen lefty tough matchup always for Janice Chen in the slice base back and but less sticker shock given it is Diana Schneider someone who again she was competing in the college tennis rank simultaneously with and then the last one. How's this for a contrast in styles. Well in ska versus strumska physicality consistency war of attrition versus who knows what we're going to see based on the given day again those are the most notable round two matchups we're back in a taking on carava. Goff taking on who's got in her opening match cocoa goff in her opening round match taking on communist orio that one's actually really fun as well shiontex got goushin you.

Roosovars noscavion driva versus you on you a sepulanka taking on sorrow is who so again playing a top seeds in action as well in fact all the seats in action as round two of our 1000 level in Beijing gets ready to get underway of course if that's not enough action for you to WTA 125 case on the check calendar this week they've reached one of them or maybe both of them now reaching the quarter finals in jing shon Emerson Jones for more junior number one the teenage Australian. The live in the quarter finals she'll take on ochimura by the way top seed boasts minuero seris repas tormo each still live as we get ready for the quarter finals in adana one of our quarter finals already in the books low sposs all oh and one over and blink of a cost of itch Eric and tree they Antonio Luís itch all in action there again six ATP challengers on the schedule this week very much looking forward to the home stretch of Columbus just the top half quarter finals that alone.

Darwin Blanche young American powerful lefty Dylan Dietrich preseason number one college tennis player it i don't know if he wants to be a professional tennis player because he has many academic and professional interests elsewhere talent wise physicality weaponry pace he plays with gumption if Dylan Dietrich wants to be a professional tennis player he will be in the top 100. I would favor him to beat Darwin Blanche based off of again I've watched a lot of both I think lefties are always good matchups for Dietrich I think Dylan gets through to the semi finals and then by the way could have a college tennis spring preview as me s ratcheting for more world junior number one rising sophomore at wake for a cisterd the quarter finals he's got a date with andie and trade boy if it's a Dietrich ratcheting semi final in Columbus tie Tucker stopping ground. Yeah I like it I'm like that and by the way I'll do a Shelby Colton Smith cause key get Smith Mitch Kruger all guys still have cause of Kruger 10th matchup between them in the round of 16 cause of five for the career head to head by the way in jing shan you've got the men's challenger action as well still got a few round 16 matchups around 32 matchups to get through quarter finals in porto shout out to Rome Kim very good three set one over Toby Samuel August home grind still live there of course as well many.
