Welcome to the mini-brone, your day of politics for the fake story life resists and

cultures from the day of the world. Day is Friday October 2nd. One of those days in the Pro tennis world were the best were simply in action everywhere. Now it certainly helps to have to 500 level events on the calendar as we do for the men in Tokyo and Beijing. The women competing in a 1000 level event in Beijing and of course Friday saw the seats in action for the first time on the women's side. So yeah, plenty to break down as I run you through all of Friday's action here on today's podcast. Get your set for the weekend ahead as well. Where I want to start is with a match that involves my favorite storyline of every season's home stretch, a match with some serious ATP tour finals implications as of course if you look right now at the live race to the ATP tour finals, you will see in the sixth spot Francis Tiafo in the seventh spot Arthur Fees, Fees who of course this week missed the sign-up deadline to participate in Tokyo and thus even though he's top 10 in

the rankings had to play qualifying and unfortunately for both men I suppose drew Francis Tiafo in the round of 16 of this Tokyo event. I'll tell you what it may have been a straight set result. That's the level of tennis I want to see at this year's tour finals as of course Arthur Fees 6375 knocking out second-seated Francis Tiafo. Your friendly reminder Arthur Fees won just one match. Let me say that again Arthur Fees won just one match at the majors this season a round one victory at Wimple then he of course missed both the Australian open French opens with injury that he won just one match at the majors this season and currently finds himself ninth in the rankings and seventh in the points speaks to things 30,000 foot view every other man competing for an ATP tour finals spot should be

furious with themselves because the majority of them are trailing someone with just one victory at the majors this season. Secondly though and far more consequentially it speaks to just how freaking good Arthur Fees has been win healthy win available throughout the course of this 2026 season 35 and 11 overall on the year miss two majors huge opportunities to pick up pockets of victories right for all of these men and yet you look for him with those 35 victories this season. He ranks top 10 top 10 in total victories on the year remarkable and of course obviously we saw him capture his first 1000 title in Cincinnati he beat Lachka demon Kuboli Tiafo on the way to that title. Hi quarter final showing in Canada like he had a pretty darn good summer couple losses to Hodor in the build up to the US open that was it but obviously took the step back with the

four set loss to CTC pass round one of the US open and that's accordingly to see him put himself back in the mix and not you know frown upon the necessity to have to play qualifying like no I'm looking for matches I'm looking for first two or finals birth sorry I'm gonna swear fuck it I'll play qualifying I trust myself regardless of where I fall in the draw and like again watching this match and certainly watching against Van Asha as well it's just you know tennis is I say this frequently tennis is so thoroughly an I test sport because as much as I try and introduce analytics into my analysis of the sport to help guide that analysis you can see when someone hits the surf bigger than their opponent you can tell when someone is faster than the opponent on the other side of the net you can tell when a forehand has more action and another excuse me a backhand similarly someone finishes when moving forward someone can be explosive when pushed into the corners not just get there but do something while

and just any sort of metric you want to utilize via the i test are there fees passes throughout the course just about every match that he plays I know he hasn't made a slam quarter final yet three out of five sets is the ultimate question mark within our sport it's a question I am so certain he will answer positively next season and again tease alert here because we're going to do this podcast next week if you are drafting the next first time slam champion men's or women's side Arthur feces going to be damn near if not at the top of my draft board because again there was just no way for frances to hurt him with ease with consistency outside of landing the perfect first serve and even then Arthur feces just getting cuts on the ball now you cannot hit through his backhand wing and it just felt like in the few moments where frances was broken it

was because he lost patience in their backhand cross court exchanges there was some immense physicality point by point throughout the course of this match 10 15 20 shot rallies it was delightful because neither ran flinched on the backhand wing for the majority of the rally until frances did until he threw in a drop shot or went for a slice and that's when feasts would make him pay you used to be able to pick on the on the run Arthur feasts forehand particularly on a quick or surface when just didn't have time for that big back swing on the run forehand looked damn good and by the way like I enjoyed how frances played throughout the course of this match I know it was a straight set victory for Arthur feasts but again you look through the course of this one feasts unbroken on serve frances was broken once a set like that is how thin the margins felt during the course of this match as each man was able to execute when they got their feats at behind a first

forehand like frances was just about able excuse me to go blow for blow with Arthur feasts and it speaks to why frances belongs in the two or finals race this season as I spoke to yesterday I think he's getting in 800 point gap and he's going to be playing because he understands the value of the opportunity ahead of him here this season but again I would venture and I'm going to tweet this at Jeff Sackman because he'll find an answer better than I can how many players in the history of the two or finals have have reached the two or finals with just one victory at the majors in a season that's insane that like mathematically that should be impossible you know what helps for Arthur feasts the season finals do a quarters indian well semi-smiami title Barcelona semi finals Madrid title Cincinnati quarter finals Canada it didn't happen for him at the majors it has happened

everywhere else and in a season defined by inconsistency at the top because even alcharez sinner they haven't they've been inconsistent in their presence this season only zveraves been around everywhere um even more so maybe than joe i mean jokovic semi finals winbill then finals Australian open i know but maybe even more so than jokovic who's been the fourth most relevant player weekend week out on the ATP tour this season i think it's been Arthur feasts like i know hodar has had his number in particular and was more prevalent during the clay course season maybe the hodar light shined brighter but i don't know man Arthur feasts won Cincinnati like he won Barcelona beat hodar there by the way i think Arthur feasts is my number four by the way by elo rating right now Arthur feasts fifth by overall elo rating it's a pretty i who else has a case like

i don't think you can make a case for frances i don't think you can make maybe for rafa kabuli made a front open final that's it shelton is obviously the other one that comes to mind because he's won an awful surfaces and he made a us open finals so fine if you want to say shelton then feasts maybe i still think i'm going Arthur Arthur's the re i'm just you know again it's tier one i think if you're asking me next five to seven seasons does Arthur feasts have one slam title next to his name at least like if the over unders point five i'm taking the over the weaponry is real the you know again you used to be able to hit through the forehand when you really can't do that anymore he's improved and beefed up the second serve as every young player is prone to doing Arthur feasts is the real freaking deal that was a really good three and five match if you're going to go back and watch out anything from today go watch that Arthur feasts through to another

quarter final three and five victory over frances tf by the way next up for him val vashiro val vashiro's the real deal like and by the way vashiro with the victory currently sitting at 40th in the points race obviously by ranking right now he's 17 but he's got a thousand points coming off of his resume in shung high when they do come off he'll fall just at 39 like and that's it again assuming no more growth between now and then and i think shung high is next week for the men but excuse me watching him against ctsy pos today he just keeps going by the way he was down a set in a break like and i thought steff was hitting the forehand so well through the first set have like steffno ctsy pos even in this loss still a li stock is still creeping upwards for steffno ctsy pos but man val vashiro just guns it and it's from the return you know for it's from the first ball it's just from the jump and he gets forward i know i said this yesterday but his overhead technique is just so confounding to

me because it's literally pancake face and you're just like dude you're gonna hit the back fence and then he never does just kept pressing forward kept staying aggressive on his return of serve even when it wasn't landing even when ctsy pos was hitting him off the spot and again i thought the steff hit hit pretty well the problem was the moment he popped up the backhand vashiro pounced and that's what was required to win this match again a very tightly contested three set four six seven six six four win four val vashiro you look again total breaks in the course of this match ctsy pos vashiro each broken twice that's it um yeah like it was one break in the first they both broke in the second it was one break in the third it was first strike tennis and vashiro did it with a man who no he's no longer at his best but can play for strike with the best of them still um it's it's legit like again do i think vashiro would see up to right now seventeen i said in the live

rankings that's too high is he one of the fifty best players in the world absolutely and so like again everything broke perfectly for him in Shanghai but you see the level you see the aggression you see how someone with his games now could catch fire and again to have that sort of pressure weighing on you all year it's a victory this was a winning season for val vashiro regardless of how he goes about defending that Shanghai title he is through the quarter finals this week in Tokyo watch me some more kiri in jike was really hard to get a tough measure of him because hulgeruna didn't have it in their round one battle he kind of moved our dairy around the quarter is a little disappointed in the dirt i mean it was a three and six win um jike is good like he's he's springing sound athlete not not exceptional but a sound athlete um i mean i say not exceptional of course he's exceptional talking about the scale of pro tennis uh look again like four jike during the course of this match backed up his server they did a great job of keeping

that dairy honest by hitting big into the forehand corner and then springing from behind there he is quick um he gets forward can slap a forehand line by the way jike lost just three points behind his first serve and thirteen points on serve total in this match did not face a break point i do love how he plays downhill i do love how he uses his quickness leverages it to get forward can snap off of vali confidently when he gets there he's good karen jike is good um and obviously has caught a heat or semi finals last week now through to a second career quarter final and obviously continues his climb up the rankings the 25 year old frenchman up to a new career high of 76 of course the last winner on the day how we move on one in one over high maferia it's amazing again for a guy whose first three quarters of his career to date were defined by clay court success the last quarter spit all about the hard courts and moonar who hasn't had the greatest of seasons needed this quarter final rise been fine i guess actually this year but back up to 53 in the live rankings with this tokyo quarter final so again moonar jike vashiro feasts your first

four men through the quarter finals maybe not what you expected given again miss tokyo draw hat alkarez i mean alkarez the lab had paul fritz rhew naka shima hoodar none of the tiafone out of those names mentioned um but our third feasts still a top temp player i suppose unseated but through to the quarter finals in tokyo i thought that was the most notable action of the day but by the way you had the seats in action for the first time in bayjing as bottom half of the draw played their opening round or in this case i suppose around two overall in the event matches only what i mean i guess you did have a bunch of seats knocked out on the day but what was shock it from the results we saw i guess by scoreline diana your stremska three and one over my a willenska a ishtremska who even after the victory currently finds herself sitting at 98 in the live ranking some 13 spots welcome back to the top 100 following this run to round three it was a really good matchup for you stremska it just felt like again a lefty who pops that ball

up to her hip shoulder height now she can just bump down and drive down no big first serve to hit your stremska off the spots your stremska just had time time on her hands and if you give her time and she finds her rhythm she can three and one anyone in the world it was nice to see that level from her which loss hurts the most klara taasana i know she's the number 32c but 9 to 6 4 4 6 6 4 broken in her final service game by polina kudermetova i don't know to say again taasana when you catch her on the right three points you watch her strike the tennis ball and you just think that's different just about you know a lot of people out on the wt2 are in yet there is a baseline of movement required like there's just a physicality to the sport in the modern era and taasana doesn't get out of the corners nearly as well as some of her other peers and so accordingly like she

just doesn't have the time to hit the big ball and kudermetova was able to take her slugs take her swings get hot in that final service game that one stung just because again klara taasana has had a very tough 2026 and as i alluded to she will be the first maker break all start of 2027 tough one for her great victory again a polina kudermetova who's fighting to work her way back towards the top 100 kudermetova back up to 101 and has gone about doing it going back down to the 125s building back up her confident but playing better tennis of lane at the two or level as well qualifies into queens club winbill then DC obviously now here gets a couple of victories to work her way two round three and knock back on the door of the top 100 so big result for kudermetova more disappointment certainly go for taasana you know again other seeds upset potapova knocked out for one four sir a tire just still working her way back to health against sinya kraus of course how about tala prestin set it month one of the year when she jumped out and had big result in

Auckland like you just kind of saw it with her back hand again it it's in the bench itch model of line drive tennis and you know after slow start which is kind of able to hit her way through that deon parry back hand prestin six and one over parry you know again the absence of a top Australian women at the top of the women's tennis ranking it's it's been notable post-party couple of rising players obviously talia gibson up the 39 in the rankings the 22 year old prestin those were her way into the top 100 the 20 year old up to new career height number 84 I'm a believer I am a bully I certainly top 50 tennis it's just so sound off both wings particularly on the hard courts and a huge opportunity for her as she's going to take on a doria sneaker who also pulled off and upset herself sneak the three six seven six six two knocks out jasmine palini again other upset the only other one victoria golebic 64 3663 knocked out painsterns just too streaky from serms too many forehand self inflicted

forehand errors off the racket of painsterns in this one by the way like shout out the WTA who's made the switch if you missed any of these matches and there were a lot of matches to watch certainly what 16 of them today on the women's side pretty sure they have four minute highlight packages for every match available in the WTA YouTube video so even if you don't have a tennis channel subscription or wherever you are tuning into this podcast from I believe YouTube would be available and accordingly you can at least go catch a snippet of everything there um but again like those were your upsets on the day were stern's palini peri tossin potapova will let's go winning this event likely not um and again oppressed in victory over the on parry should shock no one stern's had been trending up so that one certainly hurts um but yeah those were your upsets on the day and you know again plenty of seeds looked apart sebalanka one in three

there was just no way for renahto's arzu would hurt her i would love a post us open sapalanca revenge to her win this win the two or finals reassert yourself back in that no no no yes we're back in a maybe the number one for now but that's the key disclaimer for now um she wins one in three nosc of a four in one just looks more and more the role of top eight contender which is like look you don't have weaponry to hurt me so i'm gonna dust you and get off the court here with ease i thought Diana Schneider looked really good against jannice chennan hero in four victory played through the jannice chenn forehand to open up the backhand corner for herself and just was ruthless with her patterns in doing so accordingly fun match up between her and alzandrova in round number three andriva slow start but the fire with which she came out she was furious through a racket after dropping a six three open set to you on you uh uh three six six love six love that's how you want to see

andriva bounce back osaka the three set went over and informed him of fiva again by the way looking forward to barton kava sevalenca's around three battle as well good uh test for the young check samson ova muhuba it's a fun battle between veterans a lot of firepower on that court certainly so you got some great matchups certainly lined up uh already four round number three in abashing and again top contender savalenca muhuba andriva noscva it's been one of the stories of the season again we know who the best players in the world are on the women's side and many of them certainly uh look the part today in Beijing best round two matchups tomorrow looking across the board uh osuoriogoth i mean that's just the name brand one but badosas de panko name brand valinets murtans is for the hipsters that one's just gonna be physical and i'm telling you if you don't have a leap weaponry to hit katie valinets off the spot man she's playing fricking well uh spitalinas in yakuva lee kruger chinweng counts guys number one on the list you know you probably

want to watch that match more than maybe any other match happening anywhere in the world on saturday so if you're up late if you do have that tennis channel subscription make sure you tune in you got some really good action ahead as we continue to move through this one thousand in Beijing of course you also have the men's action in Beijing as well uh pretty steady day across the board obviously jokovic dropped that opening set but ultimately found his form the back he's just not you know again peak no back jokovic you were you just like you're like i'm not hitting to your back hand because i'm gonna gain nothing from doing so and if i leave it short you're gonna redirect me or work me i'm just you know against the best backhand in tennis history um he just doesn't generate pace off that backhand wing with the frequency he once did the forehand is the money maker now for no back and it took him a second to find his form on that forehand wing but ultimately of course jokovic was able to do exactly that and again jokovic able to weather the storm 31st consecutive

victory for him in Beijing 467662 able to knock out bouillon chocote you know again three years ago 40 years ago jokovic getting pushed to three sets and around of 16 might have led the podcast respectfully like no back jokovic who still finds himself a limit in the rankings 39 years old he's won everything he needs to win like what's left what's left to say about no back other than enjoying the ride and giving me at the injury time out i believe midway through set number two you were just wondering okay physically is it just his body will not allow him to do this anymore a guy who's racked a plenty of miles on the body odometer um but now he looked fine physically down the stretch again started hitting his back hand a little bit more aggressively midway through set number two and that really found his form on the forehand wing once he got that early break of boo in set number three and knew it was over when he held in the long three love service game to consolidate the double break lead as well you're just like yep he's got it um and again like

we haven't gotten to see jokovic play that frequently during the course of the season what is this event number seven i want to say maybe eight for him overall in the year australia indian wells roe roll and garros winbledon since he us open yeah event number eight for him here in Beijing and the loudest 15 and seven season in atp two or history 15 and seven and amongst those wins our win over center on your way to the australian open final uh and appearance in the winbledon semi finals as well not too shabby for a 39 year old or as opposed to he says not too bad um advances in three sets tough one boo had his opportunity to have gotten that sort of win in Beijing what a moment that might have been as a catalyst for boo but jokovic you're gonna jokovic ultimately through in three sets of course another three set winner and probably your match on of the day quality wise in Beijing how about who be her cons seven six six seven six two over our third jia uh look jia's like i'm a bigger bully and i guess he's a little bit younger so hardly a

hot take here but jia has real upside jia's ability to find forehand the springiness behind that forehand the feel for him moving forward can't do much with the backhand wing up he's so quick in finding that forehand and it sounds a little different even the loss by the way the 21 year old front showed up to new career i 56 he's got to be on your list uh certainly mentioned in that most improved category as we head towards the end of the season but um man who be hurt cuts found his spots held his ground in the return game he ultimately breaks in set number three and you know again you look for whooby as we spoke about yesterday has found his form down the season some stretch wimpled in onwards as just started to look like there i say even a top 25 player again i mean again what loses tough one from two sets of love up round of 16 wimpled in but by the way that's classic who be at the major so that's a vintage edition uh losses the vandesenscope Tommy and three sets in canvas and see respectively no shame there four sets to shelt new s open no shame

there finals last week again wins over ten jia here this week um yeah no doubt and no surprise to see whooby hurt cuts work his way back up back up to 38 by the way in the live rankings i think he started to play a little bit better than that 30 by elo rating that feels about acure and there's always going to be a spot on a quick surface for a guy who plays the attacking tenison has just the underlying first serve of whooby hurt cuts but that first serve is popping he's moving well and confidently and fluidly and using his length as he always does uh good victory for him to advance into another quarter final here this week in bashing by the way as did Karen Hatchinov Hatchinov five and three over mulch and Hatchinov gets hot end of seasons not the first time we've seen this story um looking forward to that battle by the way shout out 2022 or 2021 herkats Hatchinov fun one for the OG next gen fans and that of course deniel madvedev kicks off his bashing campaign straight set victory over karen go boost uh he's moving well feels like he's simplified

beforehand once again but maybe most importantly he's starting to find some first serves here down the seasons home stretch uh again first three quarter finalists set but you got some good ones tomorrow surrender low men chick in on that rubles of fuel and they're going to strike some winners Hatchinov and young jerry shung against sash's there i've always had to be a lefty against sveroth but good action in bashing to enjoy over the course of the weekend certainly and then by the way if those two or level events aren't enough again you got two wta 125 case you got six ATP challengers emerson jones through to the semi finals in jing shan as she gets a six and six victory to advance her bozos maniero all uh each still alive they're in jing shan if that that i would love that as a sunday final i would certainly wake me up at whatever hour that they want to play uh in adana of course as well uh in drivo pausont semi final several no other semi final a little bit later here today clombus challenger today's quarter finals i'm recording this i think before

they've started uh they're going to be exceptional blanch first detrick is the match to watch daytime here on friday the former world junior number one miss iraq during an action couple of american that's michael kruger he gets smith doing battle kruger the three set victory over stuff on cosla the i'm locked into columbus of course in jing shan you've got the still rising andre elgan had a hell of a summer he's gonna crack the top 200 if he's not careful uh is elgan actually there he is the 191 excuse me he might work in his way still working his way up uh andre ilgan uh fun match between him and marat share a pav but evan you you uh brinard tomech bunch of guys still in action uh at the jing shan challenger of course porto quarter final set as well home grin came in yaki montez the former virginia standout all still alive what about former i think actually current world junior number one in junior us open boys finalists i want to say lily's

guto me gal he showed the quarter finals in kura teabuff you haven't had chance to lay eyes on him great opportunity to do so this week on atp challenger tv again six challenges for two wta 125 k's a one thousand and two five hundred's one more kjask for as a tennis fan to kick off this start of october so certainly we'll stay locked in here as we continue to monitor all of the action and hopefully be able to offer you all Saturday sunday podcast to keep you up to date on everything as it continues to unfold of course the reason i can do that day in day out here on this podcast is because of the support we get from all the listeners and of course because of the support we get from our super producer danie westoff vested the business thank you to him and thank you of course as well trynin soi
