Welcome back to our listeners. Welcome back to your patrons because you are the ones getting this. So I'm joined today by your group Jacob Holtkampson. Welcome man. Thank you. How are you man? I'm great man. How are you man? I'm perfect dude. So we firmly established our genders and that we are well good. Yeah. That's good. We're gonna do a we're gonna do a Vani prequel here today and yeah should we just jump into it? Sure. Yeah let's jump
into the action. Vani has been on the road by himself traveling seeking adventure for a couple of months. And he is on the coast of the northernmost part of the Marguelda plain like the northern the eastern shore the northern part of the eastern shore of the Marguelda plain. And he's here because he has had he has heard tales of the great ocean beyond the great ocean to the east the water that does not end. Yes he has been filled with you know excitement and
interest for this this place the sting the ocean so word he never heard before before he left. Yes and as we approach the sea it's in the evening and I can see the evening sun as a red stripe against the the big lake and it's very beautiful this is water in a way where I have never seen it. It looks also a bit dangerous I'm telling you and it's colored the the the color of the grass is colored yellow and red because of this sunset that I look upon. You stand there gazing on the ocean for a while like maybe even for hours just mesmerized by the magnificent view and then it's like you're awakened from a dream by the noise of your stomach grumbling.
Vani is hungry. I'm very hungry and also Kalama have been eating all the time where we have been standing still eating from the grass but not a Vani. Vani is also hungry and I tell Kalama let's go I think that it's supposed to be a village close here goes to here. You see a very small fishing village a little bit to the north. Yes so I let's head for for it Kalama let's go now. You ride to the village you see that it's it's a very small village can't be more than you know 20-30 people here so probably just a few families fish a folk by the yeah by the science that you see I mean there are fishing boats with fishing nets hanging with fish to dry and there's smoking fish and preparing for for the evening meal because you know settle sunset so it's it's late in the evening
when you arrive with Kalama. Yeah and you're greeted by one of the fisher folk and she says ah one of the riders from the south interesting welcome stranger. Thank you so much my name is Vani I'm from Markelta Plain and and where are you what are your name and where are you from this village are you from this village. My name is Fringa and I live here and yeah this is my home or village you may share our food we had a plant full catch today and we will be happy to share is it it's delicious is what is it that you eat is it fish we eat fish yes and you've heard of this strange creature that lives in the water you traded some fish sometimes with the with the fisher folk of the of the coast so you've heard of it perhaps you tasted it perhaps not but if
you have you've probably tasted it as cooked by the Asli who are maybe not you know they're not the best cook in the Ravenland as it is and then cooking something they don't really know how to catch or really know how them you know prepare prepare really you know so the fish probably wasn't all that good you know bad fish it's not that I mean fish cooked deliciously it's very good but fish badly cooked it's not that nice to eat no so you with some hesitation you accept but I mean you're hungry and you know in Ravenland no one says no to a free meal no and it seems like they have a huge bonfire in the middle of village yes and it's also a way of getting to I mean to meet people and ask about the direction further on yeah yeah of course I mean you talk about the weather they
ask some polite questions about your clan you ask some polite questions about fishing and fish and they of course get to hear about your mother and yeah and after maybe an hour or two of conversing you see that it's starting to notice or rather you can make an incitement yeah two successes wow two successes out of two dyes all right well you know inside is not it's forte but you know even a blind hand can find the worm as the saying goes in Sweden yeah you for sure noticed that the villagers are edgy they're very friendly and not in a hostile way whatsoever but you see that there's something there something they're holding back
something they would like to talk about but they don't really know how to you know initiate the conversation and they are super edgy but in no way like in a hostile way yeah I think that there is something that they that they are not telling me and listen I can see that there is something that you are thinking about something that you are not okay with is it me do you want me to leave am I too close to you right no no no no no no no no we very much like to have you here you seem to be a fighting man and it feels very feels very secure to have you here you see this and one of the elders seems to take over the
discussion and say well there has been a problem of late with a dark shadow plaguing our village it has taken several of our younger folk here in the village and now we all fear to leave the safety of the fire in the night we only go from the fire to our huts where we sleep and then and you know until day breaks when it's even when it feels safe to to get out again well but what is this is this a man who is trying to hide inside the shadows or what what kind of person is it's it's it's it's growling it's some kind of monster and it's almost as if it's made of shadow and it's going for the villagers and have somebody got hurt yes several of our younger
friends and family members have they disappeared and we heard their shrieks in the night as they were taken away it is not good I want to help you with this if I can I will if if something happened well while I'm here I'm I'm going to do my best to to protect you oh that would be so nice that would be so nice of you thank you ever so much do you have any idea from what the erection these creatures are coming we don't know we don't know we have we have only heard shrieks from outside the village then we will see what what happens to night and I will keep guarding as good as I can but maybe some other persons also can help with guarding and wake me up if you hear something at all yes we can help stand guard but we are not fighters we cannot
go out in the night facing the the horrors of the dark no you should not face the horrors of the dark that would be uh unadvisable it would be dangerous for a person who doesn't have the weapons but you see vani have the weapons and also I have calama the the horrors yes you might know vani means fire and calama also means fire that means really really so much fire yes and fire can calm fire can stem the darkness fire can drive back monsters and and darkness yes that is absolutely correctly okay so you you help them stand guard you're going to be up this night yeah vani is up for as long as he as he can I mean he's been he's been riding he's not
have that much of of adventure really the so he kind of the story we took the scenic route north yeah he did yeah so make a scouting check then or have calama make one and you can help yes and no successes no successes no all of a sudden you hear the shriek of pain from just behind one of the huts you heard just like no no no no no no no no! I'm I'm running there with my falcons ready are you on calama yes you you gallop over and you round the corner of the hut just as you see a dark shape like a shadowy wolf form
biting the throat of one of the villagers. And you see that as it rips its throat out, the villagers, the villagers just dissolves into a dark mist and is gone. And we draw initially parts. Yes. Bunny gets a three. The night wolf gets a five. You will first. Galloping through the night towards the foul animal or a foul beast. I take my both Falcons and I go at it with it. Alright, you can make two attacks. Your ambidextrous deer vani. Yes. As this is a prequel, let's say you have one little power point to spend on something.
Unless you push of course and you'll get more. Good. A melee attack from vani. I'm going to roll the armor. No successes with the first. Worth pushing. Yeah, I got one. Fingers. I try push it. Okay, I'm going to push it. One success. One thing. Two points of damage. It only has an armor rating of three. I did not roll success. So two damage to strength for it and one damage to strength for you. Yes. And your second attack. And the will power point, right? And a will power point. And my second attack. Two successes. One success on the armor. So two damage go through. So four damage you've dealt totally. And I spend the will power point to let Kalama help you out with this.
Ah great. Great. Let her attack as well. Stomp away. I'm going to roll for armor for the night war. No successes. Wanna push that for Kalama? Yes. One success. Great, no successes on the armor in this case. Once there's a two more than you've dealt six damage to it in one turn. But it still stands and it goes for you with a violent bite with a growl the night war jumps at the near to the adventure. You're biting him using all its strength before my attack using seven base damage weapon damage to. And the armor. Yeah, you can roll for armor. No successes. No successes. Okay. I got two successes. So three damage to strike. I'm down. The night war jumps up. Takes a giant leap just going at you and your armor helps not because it is biting at your throat.
And it's about to rip your throat out. Oh, and I spend the will power point to get Kalama to help me to get back on my feet. Good thing you pushed that roll. I got that second will power point otherwise you would have been pretty, pretty fucked by now. All right. So Kalama uses her mental ability or whatever Kalama does to make you not be broken to get you up again. And it's your turn. Okay. So I go I'm cutting it again with my Falcons. Yeah. You make your Falcons into a scissor and you just try to get it. Do you get any successes? Yes. You did? One success. One success. Two damage. See here. That is not a single success. The two damage is
enough. So just as you were about to be broken, just as you were about to go down from Kalama. Kalama not just you when you come back and you just have one strength left and you go with your two Falcons and just use them as a scissor. Beheading the Night Warg. And as you do, you feel you'd start to worry. Maybe these Night Warg's have some strange blood that is acidic or can hurt you in some way, but just as you cut its throat, the beast dissolves into the darkness it came from. Ooh, close one. Very close shave as we say. Yes, that was dangerous. Thank you so much Kalama for your help. Without you, what would I have done? Vanie. Vanie's fire would have been put out. And of course all the villagers have, they've heard the commotion and they all rush out and they start to thank you because they see that you
know you've been bitten and you've seen that something's happened here even though there's no trace of their fallen family member. Yes and I tell them about what I've seen, what I've seen, and what kind of monster that it was and what he did to the village here. And of course they're crying, they are very, very sad because they've lost another family member. But there is also, I mean this is Ravenland, this isn't modern society where of course if you lose a family member, your family will never be the same again. Ravenland is dangerous, people do die from stuff, from monsters, from rust brothers, from you know disease, blood mist, everything. I mean it's, so it's you know, of course it's devastating for the family member, of course, but I'm just saying like yeah they are also very appreciative to you and to Kalama
for helping them. So they thank you and they offer you many days, days rations of food, as thanks for helping them. Yeah and so I guess Vani is spending a couple of days there and you know keeping guard during the nights and and kind of rests during the days and and eat the quite good meal actually. Yeah, yeah. Much better than the last time he tried the fish. Yeah, of course. Yeah, actually, yeah, yeah, exactly. He gets some excellent sushi. But he gets, he gets some excellently cooked fish and stays there recuperating, but also you know, yeah, exactly as you said, maybe they they ask you to stay a few days because maybe this night work wasn't alone. I mean it's, if it's some kind of wolf shape, maybe it's a pack animal, maybe it's part of a pack. So they they're really happy that you stay for a few days, keep
and watch, but it seems like this night work was working alone. So there are no more attacks and you have successfully saved the village from this plague. Yeah, and I guess I I'm able to recover my wounds and yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah, yeah, and it's also Vani's first adventure I think. I mean there, there, I mean, you probably had some hunting incidents while still with the clan, but this is his first adventure out in the world. His first adventure on his own, his first adventure with a, you know, a proper monster where death has certainly been, you know, at stake. Yeah, I think he is very, you know, his, the confidence, his confidence is getting boosted by, by being able to, to help this village with this problem. Yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure, and now he can truly
consider himself a warrior of the plains. Yeah, and that's where we end this Vani prequel. Thank you, thanks. Yeah, I actually used, no, I didn't use them, but I was about to use, I'm holding them. I got some dice from one of our patrons, but it's not signed. So I'm guessing our patrons are listening to this. No more shitty GM roles. I apologize. Because the, because the dice are, it's six sided dice, it's D6s, on one of them, it says, Al on opposite sides, and then there's three sixes and a one. And the other one says, G and M on opposite sides and three sixes and a one. It's, I am a bad boy. They are amazed and super appreciative. Not for patron campaigns, though, it says
in brackets after. So they don't want me to use this when I play against them in our patron games. But someone wants me to succeed a bit better against the band of force, I think. Hey, I know I do this from whose whose side are you on? Come on, you should be rooting for us. Yeah. Amazing, but anyway, thanks. I love them. I love them. I know I'm going to use them. I'm not going to use them against the band of force. That's for sure, but it's, I'll use them sometimes, but I don't know when it's, yeah, I love them. Thank you so much. And the Al and the G M on, you know, four of the sides, it's just, yeah, thanks so much. And big, big letters and big numbers. I mean, yeah, they're beautiful. White dice. Yeah, yeah, amazing. I love them so much. Thank you. I, I, but who should I thank? I don't know whose my secret benefactor.
Yeah, thank you, Diego, for doing this. I love doing van is prequels and having him in the game is such a great character. We spoke about this recently when we recorded season six episode four, five, six. And it's just, yeah, so you so much fun to do. Yeah, nice to, nice to play and good to see you again, my friend. Good to see you again. And thank you so much for listening. All of you guys, we appreciate your support so much. It's, yeah, it's, we just love it so much. And we know we've been lagging behind with both prequels and bonus one shots, but we are getting better in 2023. That's our new year's resolution to, to pick up the pace with bonus one shots and with, with pay of him, patron character prequels. Have you been talking anything about the, the, the, the, the, the, the, Sweden rolls con. Sweden rolls con. Yeah, we talked about it when we
recorded some of, yeah, I think it was when we did season six episode one, two, three. I think episode three in the intro there, we talked about Sweden rolls con. Yeah, that some of our patrons are organizing. And it's, it's an, at an old prison in Stockholm, right? Yeah, the old women's prison in an, in an, on an island just outside the city center of Stockholm. Well, it's, it's not just a woman's prison. I mean, the, the character that I'm going to play in the next, play in August has actually, he's been sitting on that, he's been in that prison. Oh, that's so cool. That's so cool. Yeah, I mean, there are other prisons as well. And I think there was a mental asylum there as well. But I mean, the actual room we'll be sitting in is in the women's prison. Like actual, local, the actual rooms that we're having are in the, the, the women's prison. All right. So it's so cool. It's in, it's in May. It's, oh, my god, the date just eludes me now. Is it
the 13th? I think it is. Let me check, pick up my phone. Yeah. 13th of May, if you're in Stockholm, then make sure to drop by Sweden Rolls-Con. I actually think this one will get to Patrons before Episode 3 does. So this might actually be the first time some of our patrons have heard from it. There's been a lot of these discussions about it on the discord, but that's only for Ork Chieftains and Demelord. So not every Patrons, like most of our Patrons are Ford or like the Rust Brother tier. And so you haven't heard about it yet, but now you have. Yeah. That's fantastic. It's gonna be so much fun. It's gonna be so much fun. We're gonna do a live show and me and Matthias are gonna GM some groups that you can, you know, put up your name for. It's gonna be super fun. Thank you so much for listening. We hope to find you there. See you there. Let's meet up on Sweden Rolls once again.
